First reveal of Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette in "Farewell My Queen" (and other fun images)

The upcoming Benoît Jacquot film based on the French Revolution novel Les Adieux à la Reine (English title: "Farewell My Queen") by Chantal Thomas has been filming in Versailles and Paris since late May, and thanks to a a newly released interview with the director and several cast members, we now have our first shots of the filming as well as most key cast members in their respected roles - including Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette. (Picture heavy!)

i love history, i love pretty things, and i don't care about historical inaccuracies in movies/shows so i will def watch this

She was never hideous (at least not for the time); she was just, you know, not a stick figure.

i love marie antoinette and was obsessed with her when i was 15/16, but f'srs check out the mug on that bitch o__O she's far from being a looker, even if she was thin

The woman they cast in Jefferson in Paris looked pretty similar to her later portraits, especially in profile IMO.

I don't think she was ugly, but she definitely wasn't gorgeous by today's standards. Film studios don't really want to cast someone who is (like her contemporaries said) not particularly physically beautiful but beautiful in her grace/charm, I suppose.

Diane is a flawless piece of German engineering.

IDG the love for the Coppola film. Sofia's movies are so beige IMO. Pretty cinematography but so so so boring.

I know it's hard to tell from photos (especially ones that aren't HD); but this just doesn't look good. Is it the set design? The coloring? The costuming? Something isn't right.

I'll still watch this though because I'm a sucker for period pieces.

The shots of the courtiers outside looks strange to me... like bare and awkward? But comparing that to the finished film shots (like of Diane) I think it might just be the fact that it's an awkward behind the scene snap and not the finished film.

Love Diane, but Léa would have made a much better MA.

I'm just speculating, but I wonder if they cast Diane (and originally Eva Green) because she contrasts more with Léa's soft appearance - since in the book the reader is supposed to be calm and softspoken, while the queen has a tougher exterior.
