Blanchett returns for royal role

'Cate Blanchett is reportedly set to return to her Oscar-nominated role of Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age,' the sequel to 1998's 'Elizabeth.'

"The story will pick up 15 years from where the original film left off and looks at the Queen's relationship with Sir Walter Raleigh, played by Clive Owen. Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush is set to reprise his role as Sir Francis Walshingham and 'Elizabeth' director Shekhar Kapur (who is rumoured to be making a film called 'Buddha' cowritten by spiritual guru Deepak Chopra) has signed on again to direct.

Samantha Morton, who was nominated for her role as Sarah is 2002's 'In America,' will be taking on the role of Mary Queen of Scots.

The regal role of Elizabeth is a far cry from Blanchett's most recent film, 'Little Fish,' costarring Sam Neill and Hugo Weaving. In the Australian drama Blanchett plays a former junkie who is trying to clean up her act and must mend family relationships in the process."
