'Borgias' sells worldwide

CBS inks deals in Germany, Italy, Korea and Turkey, as well as pan-regional pacts

CANNES -- The latest small-screen recreation of the Borgias' reign is shaping up to repeat the success of that other recent TV renaissance bodice-ripper "The Tudors."

CBS Studios Intl. announced that Neil Jordan's take on "The Borgias" has now been sold across Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

Drama, which bowed in the U.S. on Showtime at the weekend, stars Jeremy Irons as scheming medieval monster Pope Alexander VI.

CBSSI said deals had been concluded in Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Korea and Turkey, with pan-region agreements agreed throughout Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

"The Borgias" had already been sold to Sky Atlantic in Blighty and Telecinco in Spain.  CBSSI said skein had delivered Showtime's biggest audience for a freshman drama series preem in seven years.

Jordan scripted "The Borgias" and helmed two of the nine episodes.
