Johnny Weir and Tadashi Shoji Design T-shirt for Japan Relief
He dazzled the crowds at Elise Øverland’s arctic-themed Fall 2011 presentation, and now skater Johnny Weir is hoping to have an even greater impact by teaming up with designer Tadashi Shoji: The duo have joined forces to create a T-shirt for Japan earthquake relief.
Taking inspiration from the Japanese flag, Weir and Shoji—who was born and raised in Sendai, Japan—designed a white T-shirt featuring a red circle with messages of inspiration, including “Love,” “Pray,” and “Believe.” The words, written in both English and Japanese—are printed in white letters of various sizes and form a heart.
“The devastation in Japan has effected millions and they need our help,” Olympian Weir says in the below PSA for the tee. “Join me in letting Japan know: We’re behind you and we believe in you…. Let’s pull together and take action to help Japan.”
The shirt, which retails for $25, can be purchased at johnnygweir.com or by calling 877-TADASHI. All proceeds benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.
