Jackie, who captured the hearts of America with her vocal prodigy performances, beat out Michael Jackson's reign as being the youngest star on the Billboard charts when he set the record at the age of eleven.“O Holy Night”, performed by Evancho rated number two in sales on the popular Billboard list. Other young talents who topped the charts include Zac Hanson of “Hanson” at age 11, Stevie wonder, LeAnn rimes and Miley Cyrus all thirteen.
In the fashion of Charlotte Church and Hayley Westenra, age 13 and 17 respectively; Evancho has a “classical crossover” style. Her “O Holy Night” is a four-song EP which consists of two Christmas songs and two classical pieces. “Pie Jesu” which Evancho performed on “America’s Got Talent” and “Oprah”.
The Pittsburgh native first charted last summer with “Prelude To a Dream” which peaked at #121. The independently recorded attempt was pulled. Columbia Records is now hosting the young singer. Willow Smith, daughter of Will Smith, also ten has landed on the charts at the age of ten with her single “Whip My Hair” which reached #11.
America's Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho has set a record in the US following the release of her debut album.
O Holy Night sold 239,000 copies in its release week and reached number two on the US Billboard 200.
Sales of the 10-year-old singer's album make her the highest selling debut artist of the year so far.
"Jackie Evancho is one of the purest and finest vocalists I've ever heard, and the initial response to her debut release has been phenomenal," Columbia Records Chairman Steve Barnett told The Hollywood Gossip.
Evancho became a nationwide sensation following her performances as a contestant on this year's fifth season of NBC show America's Got Talent.
