January 9, 2006 - Critically acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix recently shot the debut video for the buzzing group People In Planes.
Shot in the Ontario, California International Airport on December 20th, the clip is for the band's first single: "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)" which impacts at modern rock radio later this month.
"I've never heard anything like it ("If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)," commented Phoenix. "Really the movement and the rhythm of the song gave me my first ideas for images. I started doing some research on airports and found a couple of pictures from a Japanese architectural photographer and saw images of airports in blues and yellows. I really loved the idea of combining colors and giving it a really metallic look."
For a band whose sound has been described as "richly atmospheric" Phoenix's vision for this sound perfectly captured the mood.
"(The concept of the video) really all comes together at once," Phoenix added. "The first inspiration is the song and for me it has to be a song that you like and respond to in some way. And the People In Planes' song, has something really inspiring about it. It sounds like music that I always love."
"The second we read Joaquin's treatment for our song we knew he got it," commented guitarist Pete Roberts. "Not only is Joaquin a great actor, he's a fantastic video director who has a vision on how to merge music with film to create something new."
People In Planes were last seen in the U.S. winning over new fans with their spectacular live show touring along with The Bravery late last year. The band will be returning to New York for a special showcase at the Mercury Lounge on January 31st.
People In Planes debut album As Far As The Eye Can See… produced by Sam Williams (Supergrass) will be released on March 28th. The video for "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)" will be completed in a couple of weeks.
