BIGBANG, EXILE, SUPERFLY AND W-INDS. TO PERFORM AT MTV JAPAN’S ANNUAL AWARDS SHOW SATURDAY, MAY 29 AT YOYOGI NATIONAL STADIUM IN TOKYO


03.31.2010 – MTV Japan today announced nominees and the first four performers to be featured in its newly rebranded music awards event, MTV WORLD STAGE VMAJ 2010, set to take place at the Yoyogi National Stadium, Tokyo, on Saturday, May 29.

Pop queen Lady Gaga received five nominations while Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Asian diva Namie Amuro, Miliyah Kato, and JUJU all received three nominations each. Scheduled to perform live are four of the top groups in Asia: BIGBANG, EXILE, Superfly and w-inds.. Guest celebrities include (in alphabetical order) Miho Fukuhara, ICONIQ, JAY’ED, Juliet, Shonan no Kaze and VANNESS. Additional performers and guest celebrities will be announced in the weeks leading up to the big event, and nominations in all fifteen award categories are listed below.



MTV Video Music Awards Japan debuted in 2002 as one of the biggest music award shows in Japan, showcasing the best of both international and local artists and celebrities. This year, the awards show unites with MTV WORLD STAGE combining the award presentations and more live performances staged in front of a live audience of 10,000 music fans in Japan. MTV WORLD STAGE VMAJ 2010 will air live to over 7.5 million homes on MTV Japan Saturday 29 May at 6 pm and will be broadcast worldwide on MTV channels in June (exact air dates to be announced).

Winners of the MTV WORLD STAGE VMAJ 2010 awards are determined by viewers and music fans who vote for either Japanese or international artists nominated in each category. The voting period is from March 31 through May 9 and can be accessed via web and mobile www.mtvjapan.com/vmaj.

The VMAJs have always had all the elements of a massive global music event - big stars, top notch performers and the excitement of the biggest names in music vying for awards,” said Indra Suharjono, Executive Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks North & Southeast Asia. “As a special installment of MTV World Stage, all the excitement from Yoyogi National Stadium will now be beamed out around the world to MTV's massive audience across more than 160 countries.”

MTV WORLD STAGE showcases the biggest artists on the globe live in concert, reaching an audience of over 550 million households. Filmed at exclusive gigs, renowned music festivals, unique concert venues all over the world, and featuring the most popular acts in pop, rock and hip-hop, MTV WORLD STAGE is the “front row seat” for music lovers to experience every Friday night without having to leave the comfort of their sofas. MTV WORLD STAGE first premiered on February 27th 2009 and featured Coldplay live in Tokyo. Other artists playing on MTV World Stage are AC/DC, Amy Winehouse, Green Day, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, Metallica, Oasis, Pussy Cat Dolls and R.E.M..
