Sofia Vergara Joins "The Smurfs" and "Happy Feet 2"

If you’re a fan of the ABC comedy series “Modern Family,” Sofia Vergara is a familiar name and face. According to THR, the Colombian actress has landed a new feature role in the live action/CGI movie, The Smurfs alongside “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris. Amidst her casting there’s a bit of confusion as to who she’ll play because this report conflicts with another one that suggests that “Glee” star Jayma Mays will star as the same character. Dun, dun, dun!

According to the trade, Vergara will portray “Odile, a powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company who is married to the live-action character played by Harris.” Here’s where the confusion comes in, in an earlier report by EW they stated that Mays would star as Harris’ pregnant wife, yet here the character’s been transformed into a high powered executive? THR still lists Mays as part of the cast along with Hank Azaria but there’s no description as to who she will play.

Hopefully a report will come out sooner than later that gives us some clarification on that issue. On another note, we’re hearing that Vergara will also star in the long awaited sequel to the animated hit, Happy Feet. She’s landed a voice role in Happy Feet 2, which is scheduled to hit theaters in November of 2011. The film will once again be directed by George Miller who’s currently filming in Sydney.

The Smurfs movie is scheduled for a summer 2011 release, which means Vergara will have two potential hits on her resume next year. P.S., she’s awesome on “Modern Family,” if you haven’t watched an episode of the show already, this would be the time to start.
