Justin Bieber's Manager Charged in Twitter Bust

WILLISTON PARK, N.Y. (WPIX) - Justin Bieber's manager turned himself in to Nassau County police Wednesday, to face misdemeanor charges in what his lawyer calls a " Twitter arrest."

The charges against Scott "Scooter" Braun stem from a November event at Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island. Bieber was due at the mall to sign copies of his CD, but chaos later ensued after nearly 5.000 fans showed up -- far more than mall security had expected.

After receiving 911 calls from people in the mall concerned about being trampled, Nassau County police decided to cancel the event. Investigators say they told James Roppo, an executive with Def Jam Records, to call it off.

Despite the warning from local authorities to Bieber's camp, a message was posted on the teen star's Twitter account saying, "On my way to Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY to sign and meet fans! I'm pumped. See u there."

Police say they reached out to Roppo again to retract the earlier tweet and post a message saying that the event was canceled. However, police say no such tweet was ever sent.

After an hour passed, police used Roppo's phone to contact Braun and tell him about the out of control event at the Long Island mall, that apparently was still not officially canceled. Police say after they told Braun that Roppo was getting arrested, he sent Tweets on Bieber's behalf. One read, "they are not allowing me to come to into the mall. If you don't leave I and my fans will be arrested as the police have just told us that."

Three minutes later, "the event at roosevelt mall is cancelled. Please go home. The police have already arrested one person from my camp. I don't want anyone hurt" was posted. The crowd then dispersed.

Police say Braun put publicity above public safety, but he claims he was just acting to protect Bieber. Braun has been charged with Reckless Endangerment and Obstruction of a Governmental Administration.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday.
