The 52nd Grammy Awards soared 32% from last year to a 9.8 adults 18-49 rating (from 8-11:30pm), and lead CBS to a big win on Sunday night. It was the Grammys' best performance since 2004 in adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, households and viewers.
ABC’s entire lineup took a hit against the Grammys, with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition down 12% from last week to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating. Desperate Housewives was down 3% from last week to a 3.7 rating, tying a series low. Brothers & Sisters was down 8% from to a 2.4 rating, setting a new series low.
Fox’s lineup was likely hurt more by the Pro Bowl, but it may also have suffered from the long period since its last “standard” Sunday night. All their shows were well below their new episode averages this season. The Simpsons had a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating (vs. a new episode season average of 4.3). The Cleveland Show’s 2.2 rating compared to its new episode season average of 3.8. Family Guy fell to a 3.2, from its new episode season average of 4.4. And American Dad was down to a 2.5 rating from its new episode season average of 3.3.
NBC choose to mostly sit on the sidelines and Dateline NBC’s 0.9 rating and SNL Presents: Sports All Stars’ 1.2 rating showed that the viewers recognized that.
