Sci-fi drama District 9 has landed at the top of UK and Ireland box office, knocking 3D horror movie The Final Destination into second place. This week's number one took £2.2m in its three days, holding off competition from quirky comedy (500) Days Of Summer, which debuted at three. Quentin Tarantino's idiosyncratic war film Inglourious Basterds fell two places to number four, taking £764,454.
A-Team for District 9 star
Reports suggest that District 9 star Sharlto Copley, who played Wikus van der Merwe in the hit movie has been offered a role as Howling Mad Murdock in Joe Carnahan's The A-Team.
First time actor Copley has wowed fans around the world in the sci-fi movie that has topped charts in the US, UK and South Africa.
Empire online reported that the deal is only an offer at this stage, and he might join a cast that already includes Liam Neeson as Colonel Hannibal Smith, Bradley Cooper as Templeton "Faceman" Peck, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as BA Baracus.
The original A-Team TV series was hugely popular in the 80s and the new pilot reportedly has an insane plot. If Copley does sign on to The A-Team, he won’t have much time to prepare - filming has already started on the pilot in Vancouver, with a possible release in before the end of the year.
If the rumor is true, Copley would have aced out a bevy of young hot Hollywood types for the role, which included Timothy Olyphant, Woody Harrelson,, among others.
The A-Team revolves around the four members of a former commando outfit and current group of mercenaries. Their leader is Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, whose plans tend to be unorthodox but effective. Lt. Templeton "The Faceman" (usually referred to simply as "Face") Peck is a smooth-talking con man who serves as the team's appropriator of vehicles and other useful items. The team's pilot is Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, who has been declared insane and resides in a mental institution for the show's first four seasons. Finally, there is the team's strong man and mechanic, Sgt. B.A. "Bad Attitude" Baracus [to be played by Quinton Ramone Jackson].
20th Century Fox is eyeing a June 11, 2010 release date for the action-adventure.
