Here we go again, for another ride on the Get Jarett's Hopes Up Express. I've previously talked about my love of "Heathers," my excitement that there might be a Broadway version and how in favor of a sequel I am. Well, in the new issue of Empire Magazine, original Heather, Veronica, confirms that numero two is headed to you faster than you can satiate your urge to purge.
"There is a sequel in the works. I swear to God," Winona Ryder says in the new issue. "I've been wanting to do a sequel forever. There is a story, and Christian [Slater] has agreed to come back as a kind of Obi-Wan character."
As for the story itself, the writer and director are desperate to keep a lid on that, but I would like to once again propose my idea for the corporate America-set sequel:
Office politics are how the bullies from high school lose their place atop the totem pole to their former victims. Just think about how many high-level CEOs were stuffed into lockers -- you know Bill Gates has suffered from a million wedgies. So just imagine what Martha Dumptruck would be like today, after years of high school hell? Asking her to pop some popcorn doesn't undo the years of torment, V.
So when Veronica loses her job and asks her frenemy, Marty (the kickier name Martha goes by now) for help, she has no idea that years of restricting food intake and suffering from a shoddy Mexican gastric bypass has turned Martha into the ultimate Heather. But this time instead of using frat parties and passing notes to exact their revenge, these two fight their battle of bitchery via Blackberries and board meetings.
Tagline: "Everybody's got a little Heather in them."
What do you think of the idea of a "Heathers 2" in general?
If it has Winona, I'll watch it, but idk... it'll either be really great, or really terrible.
