So it began with: The Kimmel Diss
John Cena, promoting his new film 12 Rounds, denied an alleged rivalry with fellow wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as "The Rock") to Jimmy Kimmel Thursday.
The beef, explained Cena, stems from Johnson's past insistence he would stay loyal to his pro wrestling roots (his father and grandfather were both pro wrestlers) even as his star in tinsel town rose.
"He's obviously .... got his start in the WWE, gone onto movies, but in the process, the whole time while he was in the WWE, he just preached to our fans -- who are very loyal -- how much he loved the business," Cena said of Johnson. "He says he loves the business so much, but then just up and leaves. So here I am, I've done The Marine, I'm still working full-time for the WWE, I've got 12 Rounds coming out ... and everybody's asking, 'When are you leaving?'"
Cena, in a moment of unintentional comedy at its best, said he would continue wrestling even if he wins an Oscar.
and continued in another interview for '12 Rounds'
Q: …you're going the way of Dwayne Johnson?
JOHN CENA: It’s tough for me to say this and then have people believe it just because of the people who’ve come before me, but I’m not going to leave the ring anytime soon. I’ve done two features now. I haven’t sacrificed one bit of commitment to the WWE. I can do two things at once and it’s two jobs that I enjoy. I love making movies and I love my time in the ring. I wouldn’t want to give either one of them up.
And the two will come face to face...
It's no surprise that John Cena isn't fond of Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock. Cena has commented on him numerous times, and he wasn't exactly praising The Rock. He probably feels that Johnson hasn't fully paid his dues to the company.
Unhappiness of the Rock leaving WWE for Hollywood isn't uncommon. Some consider them rivals, though they have never had "encounter."
Heck, they never passed one another's...until now.
The Rock's "Race To Witch Mountain" came in at No. 1 in the box office. Well, what do you know, I thought it would get whooped out. I'm all for The Rock, but what the heck happened to his movies?
The Rundown and Walking Tall were great movies. The Rock's Hollywood career looked promising. Now, he's going to become Disney's biggest star...oh wait, that's Miley Cyrus.
Unfortunately for wrestling fans, The Rock and John Cena will never meet in the ring.
The Rock's chances at coming back are slim, as he moves closer to Will Smith's movie status (sarcasm). The only grand stage for Dwayne Johnson will be Disneyworld.
WWE Films will release "12 Rounds" next week, starring John Cena.
They will duke it out at the box office, if "Witch Mountain" can make it to next week. Speaking of next week, Johnson and Cena will both be at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.
Sorry, folks, this is the closest we'll probably get to a Cena vs. Rock showdown.
The Rock will be hosting the event (They finally got tired of Rosie O'Donnell and Jack Black); will he make this a tradition?
John Cena will be out that night as well. He won't just be promoting his film, but he'll be presenting an award at the event.
Usually the host introduces the presenters, but given the history between the two, that could change. Do you think Dwayne Johnson will introduce John Cena to present an award? What are the chances that they will get it on?
Who am I kidding?
Those two are held to PG standards. Rock can't set a bad example for the MILLIONS...AND MILLIONS...of the Rock's Mickey Mouse club fans. He wants to go the Disneyland; he can't get rowdy.
John Cena can't get an attitude against the Rock...it'll just be adjusted. Besides, what would the Chain-Gang think if Cena took it to the Rock on Nickelodeon?
I'd say they would jump the Rock and ambush him, but they would be little six-year olds with plastic belts saying, "YOU CAN'T SEE ME!"
This is it people, buckle up your seat belts. The stage is set, this is their Wrestlemania. Johnson vs Cena at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice awards on March 28.
So as you can see this could be a whole lot of nothing, or it could be verrrrrrrrrry interesting.
