It’s safe to say that there would be many, many High School Musical fans who would line up to see a naked Zac Efron on Broadway. The Disney star was rumored to replace Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe in Equus, a show that requires the lead actor to appear, at one point, without any clothing. Efron admitted this week to a French website that he’s unsure whether or not he could fill Radcliffe’s shoes, who has been in the show since September. “Daniel was very ballsy,” he said, then tried to retract the statement. “Oh wow, that is the wrong choice of word for that! He is very smart. But I don't know if I would do something edgy for the sake of doing something edgy. I think as I mature, so will my roles. I think it will come with time. I'm not going to do anything drastic.”
How Efron would even be able to swing a Broadway appearance is anyone’s guess. He is currently involved in 3 film projects. The first is Me and Orson Welles, in which he plays a teen mentored in acting by Welles. Though there is no release date set, he was recently at the Toronto Film Festival promoting the movie. In April of 2009, Efron will star in 17 Again and he’ll portray a younger version of Matthew Perry when he magically becomes young again. Coming up, Efron will bank $10 million for the remake of Footloose, whose production has been fast tracked thanks to the success of High School Musical 3.
Late last month, it was rumored that the High School Musical star had been offered $6 million to star in Pirates of the Caribbean 4. The story was first reported by Star magazine but Efron told MTV News that the casting news was simply not true. “No one has talked to me about it,” he said “I didn’t even know about it.”
