The Smashing Pumpkins frontman – big in stature, short on humour...

From Q in 2000, when he was asked if he had a stylist: "What do you mean who dresses me? I dress me. What do you take me for? A drooling, f***ing idiot?"

During an Australian concert this year, after a fan had called out for Smashing Pumpkins songs: "F*** this". Corgan then stormed off-stage.

The Oscar The Grouch of the New York art-rock set...

At a 2006 corporate gig: "You got 20 minutes. You wanna talk through it, you can talk through it. I can turn the sound louder and really hurt you. Frank, turn it up."

To a Guardian writer asking about his Perfect Day lyrics: "I can't answer questions like that. What is it you really wanna know, because if it's personal stuff, you won't get it. So, you know, whaddya want?"

The permanently frowning Fall frontman rarely has a good word to say about anyone.

During a 1997 Loaded interview: "I don't particularly like your magazine, I don't f***ing really wanna talk to you, I'm not interested. I don't see what it's got to do with my band. People who buy my records don't read Loaded."

On John Peel, the Fall's biggest fan: "F***in' John Peel, he's the f***in' worst, he's worse than Tony Blackburn ever was. B*****d."

Live on the Grandstand football results in 2005, to host Ray Stubbs: "I want to ask you Ray, why you got a number one haircut? It's like what the murderers in Strangeways get."

Punk's flag-bearer has turned into a grumpy old man...

Lydon's message for the British public during I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!: "F***ing c***s!"

After Bloc Party's Kele Okereke accused Lydon of racial assault at a Spanish festival: "When you are at a festival with bands who are jealous fools, lies and confusion usually follow. If they need publicity so badly this is the allegation universe they run into."

At the Isle Of Wight Festival this year he called The Police "f****ing bumholes".

At the Mojo Awards earlier this year, Lydon called pop star Duffy a "f***ing c***" when she tried to hug him.

The Libertines and Babyshambles singer has always, it could be argued, put his legend ahead of his fanbase...

Doherty served his first prison sentence for burglary to pay for his drug habit – the victim of the burglary was none other than his Libertines bandmate Carl Barat.

In March 2006, Doherty kicked a BBC Radio 1 reporter outside court. He had tried to justify the attack by describing the reporter as part of the "harassing scum of press" but later apologised.

Many Babyshambles gigs have had to be cancelled because Doherty was unable to turn up, including support slots for Oasis – Doherty was in France at a birthday party instead.

OP: Not sure why those are reasons for him being rude....but whatever.

College dropout turned hip hop mogul, Kanye West appears to be a man unencumbered with humility...

A comment to Spin magazine: "There's certain things that black people are the best at and certain things that white people are the best at. Whatever we as black people are the best at, I'ma [sic] go get that. Like, on Christmas I don’t want any food that tastes white. And when I go to purchase a house, I don't want my credit to look black."

At the 2007 Europe Music Awards, Kanye jumped on-stage after electronic outfit Justice won the award for best video. Kanye ranted: "F*** this! This video cost a million dollars man, I had Pam Anderson, I was jumping across canyons... if I don't win, the award show loses credibility."

The Razorlight frontman isn't known for a lack of confidence or awareness of his own gigantic talent...

Borrell had a bar brawl with drummer Andy Burrows in October 2006 and then fought with bassist Carl Dalemo at a French gig last year. Why might they have a problem with their frontman? Well, he once elected to play the second half of a set without the rest of the band.

To the NME: "I'm the best songwriter of my generation. I've got more songs and more spirit than anyone else."

An Observer piece, which saw the journalist travelling on the road with the band in Japan, painted a picture of a frontman who refused to stay in the same hotel as the rest of the band and who ignored his bandmates at mealtimes

The Pull Up To The Bumper star and former Bond girl is clearly not out to win friends...

On Russell Harty's chat show in 1980, she slapped the host in the face after he turned around to talk to another guest.

At this summer's Secret Garden Party festival, Jones spent much of the set swearing at her band.

In 2005, she was escorted off a Eurostar train by police after upgrading her seat and refusing to pay for it – and then subjecting train staff to a tirade of foul language.

2) ELTON JOHN ( Or excuse me) SIR ELTON JOHN.

Sir Elton John might be a knight of the realm, but he’s had his fair share of tantrums and tizzies...

In the film Tantrums And Tiaras, Elton is seen having a fit when a member of the public waves at him while he is playing tennis.

On Madonna, at the Q Awards: "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot. That's me off her f***ing Christmas card list but do I give a toss? No."

To a room full of Taiwanese press during a visit to Taipei: "Rude, vile pigs!"

If being a multi-millionaire pop star is fun, clearly nobody told dear old Madge, whose bulldog-faced sourness in the face of all that glamour shows no sign of diminishing...

Singer James Morrison, on meeting her in L.A: "I went over and said: ‘Hello, I'm James, nice to meet you,’ and put my hand out to shake hands. She just looked at it and said: ‘And what do you do?’ I told her I was a singer and she just stared at me and didn't say anything. It was really uncomfortable."

While filming in Malta in 2001, the singer was accused of being "a huge snob" by a Maltese official for refusing to meet locals, being surrounded at all times by a team of bodyguards, and being whisked everywhere in blacked out cars.

Are we really so surprised that Madge is number one?
