Muse have confirmed that they did provide the music for a new Streets track which surfaced on the internet this weekend - but deny it will appear on Mike Skinner's new album.
The collaboration, entitled "Who Knows Who", appeared on the message boards of Muse's official website yesterday (Aug 3) and features Streets mainman Skinner talking over a heavy rock track.
However, the band have now posted an official statement at Muse.mu to dismiss the song, recorded a few months ago, as nothing more than "a bit of a laugh".
"(It) was the result of a late night jam session and something we did for a bit of a laugh featuring a blues riff we have been playing live recently upon which Skinner recorded some vocals," the statement reads.
"It is not intended to be a serious release so we are happy for it to be leaked around unofficially. Hope you enjoy, Cheers."
A link-up between the two acts was first mooted in April, when Muse frontman Matt Bellamy told BBC 6Music that he wanted to create "England's answer to Rage Against The Machine".
