From Pitchfork:
Premiere: Of Montreal: "Id Engager" [MP3/Stream]
Funky, hypnotic, and gloriously weird, "Id Engager" is both the closing track on Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping and its lead single. The key thread through it all is "color"-- cover art (both the album and single are below, album on left), the decorative costumes, and most of all in the slinky, strobing indie-pop disco of the tune itself. Kevin Barnes shrieks and howls when the spirit moves him, and then turns on the purr for the whisper-soft "Ooo...Ah..." background vocals, while the bubbling music has the lush feel of a Tom Moulton mix. A surprising first single, perhaps, and not easy to imagine as the album closer (though there is a note of finality at the end), but "Id Engager" is both satisfying on its own and an intriguing teaser as to where Of Montreal will go next.
