Keira says no to Mummy

It's hard for mothers to stand up to their daughters, but spare a thought for Sharman Macdonald, whose little treasure is Keira Knightley.

Sharman told her daughter  (Keira) that she had written the part of Caitlin Thomas specifically for her in the screenplay of The Edge of Love, a film about Dylan Thomas, but Keira had other ideas.

“I said ‘you’re playing Caitlin,’ and she said, ‘No, I like Vera,’” says Sharman.

As a result, the part of Vera Phillips, who was one of the poet’s love interests, was altered.

“She wasn’t even a singer until Keira decided she wanted to play her.”

Daughter knows best.
