Flight Of The Conchords preview new material in LA

New Zealand comedy duo win over a sold-out crowd

Flight Of The Conchords won over a packed house at Los Angeles Orpheum Theatre Friday night (May 30), where they gave the first of two sold-out shows at the historic downtown venue.

The New Zealand musical-comedy duo performed for nearly two hours, interspersing crowd-pleasing favourites including 'The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room)' and 'Mutha'uckas' with clever banter throughout the evening.

"This song is so new we don't even know it yet," Jemaine Clement said when introducing a new number about "getting freaky".

"It's like cookie dough -- it's not quite finished but it still tastes great," Bret McKenzie added.

The band previewed a handful of new tracks, including one about Jemaine's ex-girlfriends forming a scathing choir, which featured Bret's college friend on back-up vocals.

Tickets for the sold-out gigs were reportedly being touted online for $400 each. The duo have garnered a massive US fan-base in recent months due in large part to their popular self-titled HBO television series.

The band kept the show lo-fi, playing most of the songs with nothing more than two guitars and a Yamaha key-tar.

After concluding with 'Business Time', the pair returned for two encores, including 'Bowie' and ending with a new track about angels "doing it" in the clouds. "Jesus is our drummer on this one," Jemaine quipped before launching into the groovy, upbeat number.
