Dylan Minnette Defends Himself After "Underdressing" to Scream Red Carpet Event

Minnette is sharing the reasons why 😉 he wasn't actually underdressed at an event promoting the Scream film.
People online criticized his fashion choices at the recent Los Angeles photo call for the fifth film.
Dylan wore a bright blue shirt, black jeans, and dress shoes, while co-stars opted for suits at the event.

"To everyone absolutely demolishing me for 'underdressing' to the 'scream premiere red carpet'… it wasn't a premiere. Our premiere was (sadly) cancelled.  Of course i would've dressed for the occasion of a premiere sillies!! This was on a standard press junket day where there's no pressure on a dress code, and there was a group photo being taken midday with one photographer. i also had no idea there would be a red carpet."

Weekend Box Office: The 3-50-Flop

Ladies who spy drama The 355, this weekend's only new wide release, failed to make a dent at the box office, grossing only $4.8 million for a 3rd place debut. Critics trashed the film, but audiences were kinder, giving it a B+ Cinemascore.

Sing 2 followed with $11.9 million. Its now passed the $100 million mark, sitting at $109. The King's Man ($3.27 million) and American Underdog ($2.4 million) rounded out the Top 5.

Kelly Clarkson fulfills a request from Broadway Musical 'Waitress' and covers 'She Used to Be Mine'

• At the start of Friday's show, Kelly Clarkson covered the beloved ballad "She Used to Be Mine" from the musical Waitress. The musical, which is based on the 2007 film, features music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles.

• The show premiered on Broadway in 2016 and ran through January 2020, closing before the COVID-19 pandemic closed down the rest of Broadway. It reopened on Broadway in September 2021 for a limited engagement but had its run cut short due to a COVID outbreak among the cast and crew. The show permanently closed on Broadway on December 23, 2021.

• Before the closure, the show's Twitter account tweeted their wish of having Kelly cover "She Used to Be Mine" on her show before they permanently closed. Kelly fulfilled their wish and interviewed Ciara Renée, the last actress to have played the role of Jenna on Broadway.

2021 Box Office Bombs

Sing it with me, It's the most wonderful time of the year!
MrSundayMovies gives the run down and while there are no surprises (except maybe one about HBOMax's shocking losses) there is plenty of schadenfreude to savor on a sleepy Sunday.

It's worth thinking, too, about which movies, like "House of Gucci",might make up some money after posible awards nominations.

Demi Lovato Debuts New Spider Tattoo on Freshly Shaved Head

Demi Lovato got a new spider tattoo. The inspiration is Grandmother Spider, a figure from Native American mythology. "It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things," they wrote on instagram. "She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web — each one of us having our own place in this world."

A Sampling of 2022's Speculative Fiction Sequels

In my previous post (and in many future posts), I focused on speculative fiction that was either standalone or the first of a new series. Well, here you will find some of 2022's sequels in fantasy, sci-fi, and horror! Many of these I've read the previous entries in the series, so I may actually be able to legitimately recommend some, but others are series that I haven't read yet and likely intend to at some point. Basically, it's a lot of books of my own personal tastes. Sorry!

I'm sticking to the same rules as previously, save for the obvious inversion of rule 5:
1. All books must have an actual release date.
2. All books must have a synopsis.
3. All books must have a title.
4. Only one book per author.
5. Only sequels!

Akata Woman (The Nsibidi Scripts #3) by Nnedi Okorafor
Release date: January 18th

Why is it on this list?: I haven't actually read the series yet, but the blend of Nigerian history, fantasy, and friendship sounds great.

From the moment Sunny Nwazue discovered she had magic flowing in her blood, she sought to understand and control her powers. Throughout her adventures in Akata Witch and Akata Warrior, she had to navigate the balance between nearly everything in her life–America and Nigeria, the “normal” world and the one infused with juju, human and spirit, good daughter and powerful Leopard Person.
[continued description under the cut]

Now, those hard lessons and abilities are put to the test in a quest so dangerous and fantastical, it would be madness to go…but deadly not to. With the help of her friends, Sunny embarks on a mission to find a precious object hidden deep in a magical realm. Defeating the guardians of the prize will take more from Sunny than she has to give, and triumph will mean she will be forever changed.

I went outside of just the series I personally have read, so I cannot vouch for a lot of these! But I will stake my reputation on A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, The Oleander Sword, Nona the Ninth, and Into the Riverlands - if those let me down, then I may as well stop reading as my book-life just simply won't be worth living any longer.

What series are you looking forward to continuing in 2022?

EXO's Xiumin prepping solo debut

EXO's Xiumin recently gave an interview to Clash Magazine, in which he discussed his sold out capsule collection with Los Angeles-based athleisure brand Represent. He also revealed plans to make his long-awaited solo debut in 2022.

When asked about his New Year's goals, the singer said, "I am preparing a solo album so that I can release it in 2022! Also, I want to try acting.

"But most of all, my biggest wish is that everyone around me will have a healthy 2022!"

Xiumin has previously contributed songs to several K-Drama soundtracks, and collaborated with AOA's Jimin and NCT's Mark. In 2019, he released the sentimental ballad "You" as a parting gift to his fans before beginning his mandatory military service.

Ben Affleck admits it was "really tough" when his kids discovered #SadAffleck

- Ex-Batman Ben Affleck continues to complain about a myriad of things in ways women would be burned down for. This time he discovered people on the internet talking about him;

- "my kids see it and I think, ‘Oh, are they going to think their dad is fundamentally sad or they have to worry about me?’ That’s really tough."

- He didn't mind the memes, though! Affleck admitted that while he personally found the memes to be funny, he just really worried about his kids' feelings on the matter.

Model Brooks Nader was stalked for hours via an Apple AirTag

source

She was out in a bar and a stranger slipped an Airtag into her coat. Hours later shen she was walking home alone she got a notification on her iphone that someone has been tracking her via that Airtag.

"So I'm kind of just trying to raise awareness and tell all my ladies out there to watch your belongings, look out for the notification. The only silver lining is that I actually got notified that someone was tracking me."

"It was the scariest moment ever. I just want people to be aware that this exists."

So I guess the Golden Globes are happening somewhere in the world tonight?

I'm too tired to get into again why the Golden Globe Awards this year are a fucking mess and not televised. Regardless, the awards this year will be 90 minutes long, taking place still at the Beverly Hilton even though not a celeb in sight will show up.

The winners, as shown above, will be announced online between 9pm-10:30pm PST (half the length of the usual televised show). I think we can embed the winners as they're announced in the comments and that's the discussion/reaction/etc and as live as we can get? I'll update the full list of winners under the cut though.
