Is Superman canon in the MCU? New Eternals TV spot hints at Man of Steel

Eternals marketing campaign has begun! Today Disney released the first TV spot for their next MCU adventure. In the trailer, we say Phastos' son Jack meet Ikaris (Richard Madden). Jack tells his dad that he saw on TV with a cape shooting laser beams. Ikaris replies that he doesn't wear a cape.

Could this be a nod to Superman? Even if it is though, it's most likely hinting at the the movie or TV Superman and not the actual Son of Krypton being canon to the MCU. 💀

Eternals will be released in theaters Nov. 5th

New 'Tick Tick... Boom' Trailer and "30/90"

tick, tick…BOOM! is an adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theater as the creator of Rent. The film follows Jon, a young theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?

Stars Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry,  Mj Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought of The Roots, with Judith Light, and Vanessa Hudgens.
Written by Steven Levenson
Directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda

It's Nobel Prize week! First up is Physiology and Medicine

It's the equivalent of March Madness for nerds--Nobel Prize week! Today the Swedish Nobel Committee announced that the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2021 has been jointly awarded to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian. They independently worked to find the molecular basis for sensing heat, cold and mechanical force. David Julius was affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco at the time of the award, and Ardem Patapoutian was affiliated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Scripps Research, La Jolla, CA. This gives California an early edge in awards. In 2020 5 of the 11 winners were affiliated with California institutions (and none for the Ivy League).

This Week's US Soap Promos (October 4th-8th, 2021)

This week on the US Daytime Soaps...

General Hospital

Yikes. This week kinda felt a bit messy. I wasn't totally displeased but parts certainly fell flat.
I liked the Anna x Valentin scenes & kiss. I've been enjoying their building chemistry.
Still not sold on nuDrew mostly because of my aggressive indifference for Cameron Matthison. Hopefully I'll enjoy him more once he's finally back in PC and interacting with the cast.
I'm going to continue to reserve my judgement on the fallout of Sonny's return for a while longer. Now that Carly knows Nina's part in the whole thing, it seems only a matter of time before she learns the romantic part (which perhaps Sonny will reveal on Monday?). Her scenes with Nina were fine. I'm glad the writers let Nina hold her own against Carly to the degree they did.
While I'm glad the Spencer Stalking story is finally being resolved (or mostly, I'm sure that Esme's nonsense is just beginning), I felt having both this and the Nina reveal playing out together hindered both. Especially by pulling Sonny into felt unnecessary. Hopefully Monday will be good with Ava's reaction.

Also, why did we get a nuNik for just a day? I liked him well enough. Curious how he or mostly Tyler Christopher would have handled this story. Marcus Coloma's reaction so far seems kinda muted.

GH Spoilers

Days of Our Lives

I go back and forth on the Abigails. I mostly prefer Kate Mansi as Abigail as I think she brings a bit more zest and energy to the role and I like her chemistry with Billy Flynn's Chad. However, I think Marci Miller does well in the role and works well as Jennifer's daughter.

Seeing how fun and alive Billy was playing Chad in "Beyond Salem", has made me once again wish the persued the Chad/Will chemistry all those years back and given us a bisexual Chad.

IATSE overwhelmingly votes to authorize strike

Over the weekend, union members of The International Alliance of Stage and Theatrical Employees voted for the first time in its union history to authorize a strike, and the results are in:

98% of those who voted are in support of a strike. 90% of all union members voted.

Union president Matthew Loeb now has the authority to send 60,000+ workers to the picket lines, but wants talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to resume before doing so.

There is currently no timetable for when talks might resume, or when the strike is officially a go.

The NWSL is in crisis after several coaches fired for abuse

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), one of the top women's professional soccer leagues in the world, is being rocked by one scandal after another. The league currently consists of 10 teams and of those, six (seven if you count Portland) have had coaches accused of one or more of the following in the past year alone: sexual abuse, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, racism, homophobia.

The most recent and by far biggest scandal involves the league's most popular team, the Portland Thorns, and one of the most decorated women's club coaches, Paul Riley of the North Carolina Courage. The NWSL Commissioner, Lisa Baird, was forced to resign after The Athletic published an exposé (full article in the tweet is behind a paywall; a free condensed version is available here) where two former Portland Thorns players came forward about their mistreatment while under Riley's leadership. The Courage immediately fired him. FIFA has opened an investigation as well.

Akon Doubles Down On Comment That Rich People Have More Problems Than Poor People

Akon recently came under fire for some comments he made where he claimed that rich people have more problems than poor people, and he's refusing to walk back his remarks because, he's speaking from personal experience.

Akon re-addressed his comments.
He apologizes to those that were offended by his initial statements, he never meant to come off as arrogant.

"Sometimes, when comments like that are made, like, me, I always speak according to what I'm personally going through myself. Nobody can sit there and tell me that I didn't go through poverty. I was the young African kid barefooted playing soccer in a village with no electricity, no running water, I know what that felt like. And believe me, I know what poverty looks like. But I also know what success looks like. And from my personal experience, I'm having more problems successfully dealing with all that comes with success than I had when I was poor. I was actually happier when I was poor."

"Money is not always the cure. There's rich people right now committing suicide, dying over overdoses. It's not the money, it's the mindset. The money creates and breeds so much jealousy and envy, money brings about a lot of evil."

Inside Nina Dobrev's 1920's Spanish-Style Home | Open Door | Architectural Digest

Today Architectural Digest brings you to West Hollywood to tour Nina Dobrev’s stunning Spanish-style home. Dobrev, who is Bulgarian and spent some of her childhood in the south of France, leaned into her heritage when revamping the interiors with designer Charlie Barstein. While an airy sense of California cool is evident in sleek brass details and locally-sourced art and furniture, her careful preservation of the residence’s late-1920s Spanish-style architecture provides a sense of European elegance.

Meghan Trainor said she had 2 toilets installed side by side in her home for her and her husband

Meghan Trainor and her brother Ryan recently appeared on Nicole Byer's "Why Won't You Date Me?" podcast where the singer and her brother talked about what he's looking for in a relationship. He explained that he wants to "avoid" a relationship like his sister "at all costs" because she and [Daryl] Sabara are so close.

"You guys are weirdos, bro," he said to his sister. "They poop together. She's pooping and Daryl's like, 'I'm going to go hang out with you now!'"

Trainor went on to say that she doesn't like going to the bathroom in public, and feels more comfortable if her husband is there "blocking the door."

“We just got a new house and we did construction,” she told Byer. “Nobody knows this, but in our bathroom, there was one toilet, and a lot of time in the middle of the night when we’re with the baby we’ve got to pee at the same time. So I was like, ‘Can we please have two toilets next to each other?’”

Trainor said that the contractor thought she was joking at first but ultimately agreed to install a second toilet next to the existing one. “We got two toilets sitting next to each other, Trainor said, and we’ve only pooped together twice.”

She also added, “We pee at the same time a lot.”

Bubba Wallace, the Only Black NASCAR Driver, Takes His First NASCAR Cup Victory 🚗 🏆

Today, after a postponement due to the rain on Sunday, we have a new first time winner for the NASCAR Cup Series. Bubba Wallace, currently NASCAR's only Black driver took home the victory yesterday at the iconic Talledega Superspeedway. He started 19th on the grid out of 40 drivers. Wallace, is only the second Black driver to win a NASCAR Cup race (the sport's most premiere level) since the 1963 victory of Wendell Scott. It's also notable that Wallace's team is one of the smallest (if not the smallest), as he is the only driver of the 23XI Racing Team - most teams tend to have three/four drivers. Here's hoping he has many more drives and many more victories.

A bittersweet, but not surprising anecdote: NASCAR, aware of their demographic in 1963 knowingly, incorrectly declared a white driver the winner publicly. Scott had won that race by a margin and was not given his award earnings until two years later and his family only received his trophy after he passed.
