7 Horror Movie Tricks Used To Scare You | Movies Insider

The most effective horror movies play on viewers' senses. From Alfred Hitchcock to M. Night Shyamalan, horror-film makers have always loved messing with our visual and auditory perception, using camera trickery, calculated shot composition, and immersive sound design to instill fear in their audiences. In this episode of "Movies Insider," we give a breakdown of some of their go-to techniques and explain what makes these classic horror devices so effective at crafting fear.

Find out why the dark voyeur perspective is such a staple of slasher flicks. See how horror directors use negative space to make shots feel "off" and how their use of shallow focus creates discomfort in audiences. Plus, learn about the special range of low-frequency sounds in horror-movie soundtracks, which are basically programmed to put our bodies on edge. Here's how movies trick you into being scared.

Lorde explains "Mood Ring" lyrics

Lorde admits the satire used in both the lyrics and music video. Basically the song/album is poking fun at white girls obsessed with crystals, supplements and self healing. The same type who wants to "fly somewhere East" to find themselves, Eat Pray Love style(aka leeching off other cultures without giving a f*ck about the natives).
Also the bad wig she's wearing in the music video was intentional she says and meant to set herself apart from the character she's playing.

Nature is healing, essential oils for everyone!

Taylor Swift: Singer, Songwriter, TIKTOKER?!

So Taylor Swift announced she was on TikTok a few hours ago and this is her first TikTok. She's got a whole new means of giving us nothing!

Lots going on at the moment: Red (my version) vinyl is up for presale on my site and oh I’m on tiktok now let the games begin 😺 ##SwiftTok

♬ original sound - Taylor Swift

Way to make a statement. She's dressed up as folklore, evermore, Fearless and Red and it's a fun concept I guess. I had to cringe though. I know what she was going for but it feels really corny. Sorry, Taylor! You do you though.

Hope Gen Z doesn't roast her!

Sean Penn: Not Getting COVID Vaccine Is Like 'Pointing a Gun in Somebody's Face'

On Saturday, Sean Penn talked with CNN's Michael Smerconish, explaining that he believes that COVID-19 vaccines should be mandatory amid the rise of the delta variant in America.

"I do believe that everyone should get vaccinated," Penn said. "I believe it should be mandatory, like turning your headlights on in a car at night, but obviously that's not going to happen tomorrow and yet — at least it can happen in some areas and businesses, a lot of businesses are starting to take the lead on that."

Penn then compared the dangers of going unvaccinated to threatening someone with a deadly weapon.

"... I have some areas of strong belief in the Second Amendment," he continued later in the conversation. "But I think that you need to recognize how — with something like this — you can't go around pointing a gun in somebody's face, which is what it is when people are unvaccinated."

Penn also confirmed that he won't continue to work on his latest project unless the entire cast and crew are vaccinated against COVID-19.

"Actors are protected, but if a stagehand is working alongside a stagehand who is not protected, then they can get sick," Penn told CNN. "I didn't want to feel complicit in something that was just taking care of one group and not the other."

Sean Penn is trending on Twitter as conservatives and antivaxxers are now boycotting him. Penn has said he would actually prefer if they didn't see his movies.

Emma Corrin for W Magazine

  • Emma is making their West End debut in Anna X, which is inspired by the fake German heiress Anna Delvey (real last name: Sorokin), the Russia-born grifter who scammed New York high society before being arrested in 2017.

  • They have no memory of Princess Diana, which they considered a benefit in playing her. Their mom helped them master the accent.

  • Corrin credits their close friendship with Josh O’Connor, who played Prince Charles, with getting through the role's tougher moments. “We both spent a long time during prep researching the nuances of failed marriages,” O’Connor says. “Our care for our own characters and each other’s meant that whatever the scene was, we were completely focused on telling a truthful and real account of those moments.”

  • They still live with their college friends in a flat in North London. Their friends keep them humble.

  • In early July, Corrin changed the pronouns on their Instagram to she/they, identifying as both a woman and nonbinary. They don’t want to talk about specifics, but they are aware of their responsibility as a public figure. "It’s hard when you have a platform, but I want to make everything feel very authentic. I think we’ve become much more aware of our positions in our communities and the circles in which we operate."

  • Becoming famous in the pandemic has helped them to avoid paparazzi and red carpets for the most part.

A Million Things

For as long as Rae can remember, it's been her and Mum, and their dog, Splinter; a small, deliberately unremarkable, family. They have their walks, their cooking routines, their home. Sometimes Mum disappears for a while to clear her head but Rae is okay with this because Mum always comes back.

So, when Rae wakes to Splinter's nose in her face, the back door open, and no Mum, she does as she’s always done and carries on. She tends to the house, goes to school, walks Splinter, and minds her own business—all the while pushing down the truth she isn't ready to face.

That is, until her grumpy, lonely neighbor Lettie—with her own secrets and sadness—falls one night and needs Rae's help. As the two begin to rely on each other, Rae's anxiety intensifies as she wonders what will happen to her when her mother's absence is finally noticed and her fragile world bursts open.

Vulture takes a look at how Sony mishandled Jeopardy's legacy

• The never-ending Jeopardy saga was updated once again today, with a new report by Vulture that takes a look at Sony's role in the hiring of Mike Richards

• The author of the piece declares that in an industry where drama like this is usually enjoyed and celebrated privately, "there is no pleasure being derived from watching Alex Trebek’s legacy trashed in real time by the sleaziest host-replacement process since Jay Leno conspired with NBC to screw over Conan O’Brien."

• Apparently the author one had a meeting with a Sony TV chairman who told the author that he had a list on hand for potential Jeopardy replacement hosts. The list was regularly updated, and was on hand in order to make sure that any transition would happen as smoothly as possible. That chairman would later leave the studio in 2016.

Spike Lee promotes 9/11 conspiracy theories

Film director Spike Lee made reference to debunked 9/11 conspiracy theories in an interview.

“I got questions. And I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing about 9/11 … The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature’s not reached …. And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground — when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it’s like you’re looking at the same thing.”

Aaliyah’s mom calls out author for promoting unauthorized biography at singer’s grave

Diane Haughton, the mother of the late Aaliyah, called out an author for promoting an unauthorized book about the singer’s life at her gravesite. She wrote in part, a day before the anniversary of Aaliyah's passing, "due to the behavior of an individual that has been to Aaliyah’s resting place in order to promote a book, I have been forced to make a drastic change at Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum. This person interrupted all my thoughts and ideas to make August 25th, 2021 a day of Remembrance and Love for my daughter."

Fans believe she is calling out author Kathy Iandoli, who recently released the book “Baby Girl: Better Known as Aaliyah.” While the book focuses on Aaliyah's musical legacy, there is also attention to her relationships, abuse by R. Kelly, and rumors that Aaliyah may have been drugged moments before boarding the flight that later crashed in the Bahamas which killed her.

According to Iandoli, Aaliyah’s family declined to work with her on the book. “I did reach out to the family for permission,” she said. “It’s a strange legal situation involving the estate of Aaliyah, and I learned the complexities of this after Prodigy passed away, because you have the human and then you have the personality, the artist, the image.”

Iandoli responded to Ms. Haughton's post shortly after fans began harassing her:

Tory Lanez violated Megan Thee Stallion restraining order, judge rules

A judge ruled that Tory Lanez violated his restraining order when he performed at Rolling Loud on the same night as Megan Thee Stallion last month.

His bail was increased from $190,000 to $250,000; to pay in order to remain a free man prior to his trial.
He will be remanded into custody if he violates the order again.
He was also ordered not to attend any events where Megan, will be, including music festivals and award shows.

Lanez’s attorney claimed he was unaware that Megan was scheduled to perform at Rolling Loud.
Lanez took “measures” to try to not be seen by Megan.
The attorney then denied that Lanez tried to antagonize Megan.

The judge's best quotes “You’re very fortunate that you have the means to post bail immediately”
“To plead ignorance is unreasonable.” “Did it not occur to [Lanez] that Megan might be at Rolling Loud and that he wouldn’t be able to be a football field away?”

Lanez concluded
“I understand, your honor, and I apologize. I don’t think it was a good idea to even show up there.”

Busta Rhymes Goes On Rant Against Masks & COVID Safety Protocols

During the concert, Busta went off on masks and lockdown mandates.
The video is going viral today, despite the rant happening over a month ago.

"In the last sixteen fucking months, COVID could suck a dick. All these little weird ass government policies and mandates, suck a dick. They're trying to take our civil liberties away. It feels good to be back outside, we outside for real! It's called a God-given right for freedom, right? No human being is supposed to tell you you can't even breathe freely. Fuck your mask! Some of y'all might feel differently but fuck your mask! You can't eat food with a fucking mask on. You can't even see each other smile with a mask on. I come from a time, way before, I used to wanna holla at a chick, I used to have to do shit with my face to let her know that I'm into her. All of that energy gets blocked when your mask is on. Energy is important and we are all conductors of good energy."

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings reviews are here!

Review embargo for Shang-Chi lifted yesterday and it's currently sitting at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Critics Consensus says Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings isn't entirely free of Marvel's familiar formula, but this exciting origin story expands the MCU in more ways than one.

Reviews seems to be praising the fighting and action sequences as well as Tony Leung as the villain Wen Wu aka the Mandarin.

Reviewers also seemed to enjoy Awkwafina as the comedic relief but only seem to be medium about Simu Liu as the lead Shang-Chi.

ONTD original - a discovery of Italian music, Pixar's Luca

Buonasera ONTD, I’m back.

It’s been a while since I posted my last original post about italian music and I figured it was time to make a new one. But deciding on what genre to present and on which artist to feature is not that easy (seriously, I could make a post featuring only songwriters with the last name B alone) so the other day I had the brilliant idea of helping myself with some more media. And if the first three posts were done using the Festivalbar as the starting point to introduce you the summer bops, this post will be all about… the artists featured in Pixar’s new movie, Luca.

But I have just a tiny heads up to give first: the movie is set sometimes around the 60s and the OST features artists and tracks that were famous in those years. With the exception of one of the artists, everyone else that will be mentioned still has an ongoing career. I stuck with my usual 1 video + 3 other songs formula but seriously, if you do like any of these artists, please, check more of their music on youtube/spotify because what I linked and presented is barely a drop of their discographies. For most of them I didn’t even need to look up their song lists, I just linked the first three that popped in my head and I could probably list you three more titles at least for (almost) each of them. Also, if you want to learn Italian with music, I would actually suggest to listen to songs from this era, as I find the lyrics to feature words and phrases that are easy to understand.
