Yesterday LG announced that it would shut down its smartphone business after years of losses, marking the end of an era for the South Korean tech giant. The division is expected to close on July 31st, but the company may continue to sell some of its existing models after that, according to LG Electronics.
The “strategic decision to exit the incredibly competitive mobile phone sector will enable the company to focus resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business-to-business solutions,” the company said in a statement.
LG added that it’ll continue to support its products “for a period of time which will vary by region.”
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise to many, LG’s mobile division has had 23 consecutive money-losing quarters, and its last profitable year was in 2014.

- While Zack Snyder understood the importance of helming a black superhero, Ray Fisher came to feel that he had "to explain some of the most basic points of what would be offensive to the Black community" to Joss Whedon. Whedon sent out an email asking for questions, comments or "fulsome praise" of the major script changes, but Fisher says it became clear: "All he was looking for was the fulsome praise."
- Whedon allegedly pushed Gal Gadot to record lines she didn't like and threatened to harm her career. "Joss told [Gal] he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie." Whedon also allegedly told Gadot that "he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines."
- Regé-Jean Page auditioned for the role of Superman's grandfather in Syfy’s Krypton series but Geoff Johns, who was overseeing the project, allegedly said Superman could not have a Black grandfather. The creators also wanted to make one superhero character, Adam Strange, gay or bisexual. But sources say Johns vetoed the idea.
- The ultimate response towards complaints or concerns was, "We can't make Joss mad."
- Whedon also openly disparaged Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.
- Katherine Forrest, a former federal judge who conducted the WarnerMedia probe, told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement that in interviews with more than 80 witnesses, she found "no credible support for claims of racial animus" or racial "insensitivity." Whedon declined to comment.
The entire article is worth a read and also goes into the flawed investigation into Fisher's allegations.

When Vanessa Price quit her job to pursue her dream of traveling the globe, she wasn't expecting to gain millions of YouTube followers who shared her joy of seizing every moment. The New Yorker has posted a new interview with Josh Thomas, creator and star of "Please Like Me" and "Everything's Gonna Be Okay." The interview goes on to discuss:
- Thomas' stand-up comedy origins
- How he finds material for his shows
- How Thomas has approached difficult topics like depression, suicide, autism, and other mental health issues in his work
- Thomas' work on his current show, "Everything's Gonna Be Okay" (a show on Freeform about a stepbrother who finds himself as the caregiver for his two teen stepsisters he barely knows, one of whom has autism, after their father dies), including how he became interested in creating a show about autism, the work he does to ensure authenticity, and his general approach to writing a television show
- How Thomas discovered that he is autistic through his work on "Everything's Gonna Be Okay," how he intends to integrate that into his character on the show, how members of the autistic community have spoken to the ways his characters seem to display traits of autism before he was even diagnosed, and how his character on "Please Like Me" seems to him now a great example of an undiagnosed autistic person
"Everything's Gonna Be Okay" Season Two premieres Thursday, April 8 on Freeform.
The interview is a great read, especially if you're a fan of Thomas' work. And to see how a creator found his own diagnosis through the material they created is an interesting persepctive. If you haven't watched "Please Like Me" yet, I highly recommend it. It's even more interesting looking at it through the lens that Thomas has opened up now. Also, I couldn't find a good tag relating to mental health issues/discussions and 'health problems' seems problematic in this context.
‘The Neighborhood’ Creator Jim Reynolds Exits As Showrunner Of Hit CBS Comedy Series After 3 Years https://t.co/VF5mK88aGj— Deadline Hollywood (@DEADLINE) April 5, 2021
The Neighborhood tackles issues of race on-screen, based on personal experience. The sitcom is about a white Midwestern family adjusting to moving into a predominantly African-American neighborhood.
Jim Reynolds, creator, executive producer and showrunner of The Neighborhood, is leaving the popular CBS comedy series after three seasons. "At this moment, in light of everything going on in the world, I had concluded that I am not the right person to continue to tell these stories."
CBS Studios opted for a leadership change on The Neighborhood based on feedback, including complaints, it had received about Reynolds involving race-related issues over a period of time. Feedback from two Black writers who recently left the show after finishing work on Season 3. Efforts were made to remedy the situation over the last couple of years.
Reynolds made a decision to leave on his own just as the studio had come to a conclusion to replace him.

Season two of Netflix's The Witcher has finally wrapped production. They initially began filming in February 2020 but had to shut down due to COVID. They resumed again in August and had two more halts (once for about two weeks when someone on the production tested positive for COVID and for the period of time that Henry Cavill injured his leg).
Fan speculation believes the second season could drop at the end of 2021/early 2022 dependent on post-production/visual effects/whatever Netflix does.
A few weeks before production wrapped, new cast members for larger supporting roles were announced for the second season. More minor casting has also come to light, but OP doesn't feel like linking those.

Helen Mirren to Star as Israeli Leader Golda Meir in Guy Nattiv’s ‘Golda,’ Produced By Michael Kuhn https://t.co/6zU5D8aWR8— Variety (@Variety) April 6, 2021
Helen Mirren has been cast Israel’s Prime Minister Golda Meir in “Golda.” The film will be directed by Academy Award winner Guy Nattiv.
“On Oct. 6, 1973, under cover of darkness, on Israel’s holiest day and during the month of Ramadan, the combined forces of Egypt, Syria, and Jordan begin a surprise attack on the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights. Outnumbered and outgunned, Meir confronts the immediate, clear, and present danger of a ticking timebomb that she hoped never to face. Surrounded, isolated, and frustrated by the infighting of her all-male cabinet, with little hope of rescue, one woman is in a race against time to save millions of lives on both sides of the conflict.”
Inspired by the iconic mid-1990s DC story from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One begins as a brutal murder on Halloween prompts Gotham's young vigilante, the Batman, to form a pact with the city's only two uncorrupt lawmen (Police Captain James Gordan and District Attorney Harvey Dent) in order to take down The Roman, head of the notorious and powerful Falcone Crime Family. But when more deaths occur on Thanksgiving and Christmas, it becomes clear that, instead of ordinary gang violence, they're also dealing with a serial killer - the identity of whom, with each conflicting clue, grows harder to discern. Few cases have ever tested the wits of the World's Greatest Detective like the mystery behind the Holiday Killer.
When a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can‘t they also be Girls5eva?
The series stars Grammy® Award-winner and Tony® and Emmy® Award-nominated singer Sara Bareilles, Grammy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Renée Elise Goldsberry, Emmy® winning “Saturday Night Live” mainstay and comedy icon Paula Pell, and New York Times Best-Selling author, actor, activist, writer and host Busy Philipps. Meredith Scardino serves as creator and executive producer for the series. Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), Eric Gurian (Little Stranger) also serve as executive producers.

On being a meme and his own dance style: "It's so hysterical. [That moment] was improvised when I saw the crowd dancing, going loco. I felt the beat and was like, Zemo has been sitting in a dodgy German prison cell for years. So, he needs to let off some steam and show his moves. Let's go for it! I enjoyed so much the reaction of Anthony and Sebastian looking at me. Still, I was 100 percent sure that they would cut it out [of the show]. I was really surprised and happy that they kept it. It was a long dance. There's more to it, but they cut this little moment. I didn't know what was happening, but I then received all these messages from my friends cracking up. My friends who know me well know I'm an embarrassing, passionate dancer on the floor but it would be different moves. Bush’s Beans (now That Beautiful Bean Co.) and Josh Groban teamed up to give the bean the ballad it deserves. The musical fruit has never sounded so beautiful.
Not since “The Ballad of the Salad” have we seen music and food come together so effortlessly in a ballad that will bring tears to your eyes.
[Lyrics]When I was a little boy
the kids could be so
(MEAN MEAN MEAN)
laughing at what was in my lunch pail
(BEANS BEANS BEANS)
They’d yell about the musical fruit
They’d say the more that I ate, the more I’d
(TOOT TOOT TOOT)
But I swear that they’ve never made me do that
(THERE’S NO SHAME)
I’d zip my beans up and roll like the wind
Just wishing that I belonged
And If I could take me back in time
I’d sing that bearded boy this song
Tears of beans
Are dribbling down my cheek at night
Dreams of beans
I’m on a cannellini cloud floatin’ through the moonlit night
But in the morning I’m still trying
To hide the fact I’m crying these tears
Tears of beans
This key change means it’s time to show
a flash-forward to my
(TEENS TEENS TEENS)
I had an appetite for success but now I had to deal with
(MEMES MEMES MEMES)
Yeah, music’s cool but have you considered all the healthy benefits of
It’s not a fruit and the reason you toot is something called oligosaccharides!
(JOSH, IT’S REALLY OK)
I must have lost my mind, it’s easy to assume
(DON’T WANNA ASSUME)
Otherwise, why would I sing this song about a guilty pleasure legume,
besides being paid…
How ‘bout another key change!
I wish I could eat this instrument
Here’s to beans!
I’m gonna bake a bean ballad the world won’t soon forget
More precious than a diamond and more cherished than gold,
next time propose with a bean ‘cause fortune favors the bold
For a schmancy affair or dad’s barbecue grillin’
Or outta the can like a cowboy villain
Here’s to beans
‘Knives Out’ Sequels: The Whodunit Behind Netflix’s $469 Million Power Play https://t.co/RV8SxpUfqq— The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) April 6, 2021
Box office and critical smash hit starring Daniel Craig and written and directed by Rian Johnson.
In February 2020, Lionsgate was officially moving ahead on a sequel to Knives Out.
On March 31, Lionsgate would not be releasing the sequel at all.
2 sequels would be made by Netflix, a $469 million deal with Johnson and his producing partner Bergman.
The pact gave Johnson immense creative control. He doesn’t have to take notes from the streamer. Craig must star in the sequels and that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie ($40 million range).
Johnson, Bergman and Craig stand to walk away with upwards of $100 million each.
For Netflix, despite the price tag, the deal made sense on several levels.
It gets an instant and proven franchise with sequels to a film that grossed $311 million globally.
It cannily weakens a theatrical competitor.
Inside Rege-Jean Page’s ‘Bridgerton’ Departure https://t.co/Cs3325Hnii— The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) April 6, 2021
Page originally signed on to the series with a one-year deal to play male lead Simon Basset.
The plan from the start was for each season of the drama to focus on a different one of the eight Bridgerton siblings and their quest for marriage.
Page was offered an opportunity to return as a guest star in 3 to 5 episodes of season 2 ($50,000 an episode)
Page was drawn to Bridgerton because the role was a "one-season arc" with a "beginning, middle, end"
Page's camp has also been flooded with film offers following his breakout role in Bridgerton.
Nearly everyone close to the show knew Page only had a one-year deal for Bridgerton.
Production reached out to Page's camp in January or February with an offer to return.
Even though plans for season two never included his character, Simon.
