New sneak peek at Cruella

Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Selena Trends As Fans Rage Over Lack of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Honor

Selena Quintanilla Perez trended overnight as fans raged over the lack of honor for her lifetime achievement award. The Tejano singer, who died in 1995, was among the multiple recipients of the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award and received a 3-second mention during broadcast. Fans were left confused and hurt by the perceived snub.

While the Recording Academy had not promised a more extensive tribute to Selena and doesn't typically devote time in the telecast for extended recognition to individual honorees, there was a clear impression that there would be a tribute by the way the academy used Selena's image and name to hype up the show. Even Selena's widower, guitarist Chris Perez, the Texas board of journalists and Texas congressman Joaquin Castro seemed to be under the impression that there would be a bigger honor. It also led to confusion as to why music legends Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Salt-N-Pepa and Talking Heads didn't warrant a tribute in the nearly 4-hour show.

Selena's sister Suzette later acknowledged fans' frustration, saying she too wished there had been something more for the Latina trailblazer.

Grammys 2021: List of Televised Winners and Nominees

The 2021 GRAMMY Awards were held on Sunday night on CBS, hosted by Trevor Noah. Beyoncé, who was nominated for nine awards over the course of the night, broke the record for the most Grammy wins ever by a female artist and most Grammy wins ever by a singer. Taylor Swift's "Folklore" won Album of the Year and made Swift the first woman to win the prize three times, and she now joins the ranks of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon as the only artists with three career best album trophies. Also among the female history-makers of the night was Megan Thee Stallion, who joined Beyoncé in becoming the first pair of women to win in the best rap performance category for their remix of "Savage."

Warner Bros. Confirms No More Live Owls At Harry Potter Theme Parks & Shows

With thanks to The Protego Foundation, a Wizarding World inspired animal rights group, Warner Bros "confirmed that Universal Parks & Resorts (home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and all future officially licensed Harry Potter live shows will no longer be using live owls."

Statement from Tylor Starr, president and founder of the foundation: "“We learn in the Harry Potter series that owls are sensitive and remarkably intelligent birds who should be treated with kindness and respect. They shouldn’t be subjected to loud music, large crowds, and flashing lights. The Protego Foundation is so thankful to Warner Bros. and the Harry Potter Global Franchise Development team for honoring Hedwig, Errol, and other beloved owls by implementing such a kind policy to help other sensitive owls like them.”

This isn't the first victory for the foundation; previously, Warner Bros stopped using live owls tied to pedestals for photo opportunities at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Osaka after images appeared on social media condemning the use:

In 2016, Warner Bros stopped using live owls during productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. There had been an incident where an owl was endangered after flying into the auditorium. After this, Warner Bros reportedly began using bird props.

Some uplifting news for your Monday blues!

Review Round-up: Zack Snyder's Justice League

Reviews have begun to pour in ahead of Thursdays debut of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Is the film any better then the mess seen in theaters in 2017? Overall the answer looks to be "Yes."

Here's what some had to say: -- It's not possible to put this against the 2017 version and not recognize this cut is superior in every way. The films seven chapters have a self-contained quality to them. Comes very close to what Scorsese envisioned for the superhero-film-as-cinema then anything else the genre has ever produced. Cyborg's storyline is the highlight.

Vulture -- Another critics who highlights Cyborg has the best parts of the film, while the actual story of the film is its least interesting aspect. Snyder goes way too overboard sometimes but it's a passionate, moving work.

Entertainment Weekly -- Snyder isn't reinviting the wheel, and the movie is a chore to get through. No worse than the theaterical version.

Variety -- Immersive entertainment and visuallly spellbinding. Accomplishes in four-hours what the MCU took nine films to do.

The film currently has a 53 on Metacritic and a 75 on Rotten Tomatoes. Final scores for the theaterical version were 45 and 40, respectively.

Yo-Yo Ma gives impromptu concert after receiving his second vaccine

Absolute treasure Yo-Yo Ma gave a cello concert to fellow vaccine recipients, healthcare workers, and volunteers while he waited under observation after getting his second vaccine shot yesterday in Massachusetts. The world renowned musician has been giving back with the gift of music throughout the pandemic, previously playing pop-up concerts for frontline workers from the back of a flatbed truck, and releasing a new song with proceeds to go back to musicians who have been impacted by covid-19.

Ron/Hermione hands

The biggest snubs and surprises from this year's Oscars nods

You know there are always a couple of 'what/how in the fuck...?' nominations every year courtesy of ye ole Academy, and I'm here to list a few.

-- One Night in Miami... - a notable snub as it got tons of precursor noms, especially for best picture, and best director (Regina King).
-- Da 5 Bloods - tons of talk about Spike Lee's latest, which did get the SAG Ensemble nod, but otherwise snubbed almost entirely by the Academy (it got best score?). There was expectations of best actor (Delroy Lindo), director, and even picture.
-- Aaron Sorkin - was expected to be one of the best director finalists but thankfully the Academy made some good decisions and snubbed him (though still the frontrunner for original screenplay), and we got a surprise nomination for 'Another Round's Thomas Vinterberg.
-- Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom - was expected to get a best picture nomination, but outside of Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman's nominations was pretty much shut out of any of the big awards, which was a surprise snub.
-- Supporting Actress - Jodie Foster was expected to get a nod for 'The Mauritanian' as she won the Globe for it, but totally shut out; same with Helena Zengel, who was nominated for a Globe and SAG for 'News of the World' and was shut out too (though the Academy's rarely fond of kid nominees so that may have played against her).

And probably the biggest surprise...

-- LaKeith Stanfield's nomination as supporting actor for 'Judas and the Black Messiah', which pretty much shocked everyone. Not because he wasn't in the race, but he wasn't in the race at all for supporting actor - Warner Bros. pushed him as the lead and fellow Oscar nominee (and fave to win) Daniel Kaluuya as supporting. Apparently Academy members ignored the FYC and voted for him in supporting, and here we are.

Which begs the question everyone's been asking all day - wait was Jesse Plemons the lead of 'Judas and the Black Messiah', and, you know - not the two actors who played the titular Judas and Black Messiah??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Courtney Love: 'I weighed 97 pounds and almost died this summer'

-Courtney Love was suffering from anemia in the summer of 2020 and said "ill-equipped" doctors stigmatized her "for being an addict"
-She says she's "so good now" thanks to CBD oil, which has removed almost all her physical symptoms
-She used to "scoff at cannabis/THC" but Woody Harrelson enlightened her about the benefits of CBD

1. This post seems to make a bit more sense, given her experiences.
2. I'd have been a mess if 2020 took her.

Hollywood Stars Perform BTS’s “Dynamite” | W Magazine

In 2020, the superstar K-pop band BTS broke seven Guinness World Records with their song “Dynamite”: it became the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, got 7,778,950 streams within a day (and subsequently nabbed the title for the biggest Spotify release of 2020), and spent the most weeks at no. 1 for Billboard’s Social 50 chart. We at W were inspired by the impact BTS—and its fandom, known as the Army—made, not just in the realm of music, but for the culture at large, and chose their song “Dynamite” for our annual round of Lyrical Improv. Watch Jacob Elordi, George Clooney, Tom Holland, Jared Leto, Andra Day, and more of our 2021 Best Performances stars give their renditions of the chart-busting track here.

25 films where actors brilliantly played against type

We all know certain actors/actresses who play the same character (i.e. action hero, romantic love interest, villain) or play "themselves" in most of their roles. As Yardbarker (via MSN) says "and once they get locked into a certain kind of role, it becomes harder to break out with each new project." But they eventually they can get a role that they "shed their stereotypes, while directors choose to take a chance on letting the thespians reinvent themselves". This is what is often referred to as casting/playing “against the type” or “against type.” Here is 5 of the 25 films where actors "brilliantly" play against type.

Demi Lovato's seventh album, 'Dancing With the Devil: The Art of Starting Over' dropping April 2

Demi Lovato has revealed that her seventh studio album, (deep breath) Dancing With the Devil: The Art of Starting Over will be released on Good Friday, April 2.

Lovato broke the news during a Clubhouse livestream on Monday night, explaining that she extended the album's original title The Art of Starting Over to reflect the importance of her upcoming YouTube docuseries.

"If you listen to it track by track... it's like the non-official soundtrack to the documentary," Lovato said. "When we went through the tracklisting and mapped out how it coincided with my life's story, it made sense to add the more emotional stuff in the beginning and then transition into The Art of Starting Over."

The album will include 19 tracks, with three bonus tracks on the deluxe edition, and will feature three as-yet-unconfirmed female artists.
