How Instant Ramen Became An Instant Success | Billion Dollar Breakthrough

In 1958 Momofuku Ando developed a new food with the goal to help end hunger in Japan. You might be surprised to hear that that food was instant ramen. But every day, an estimated 290 million people eat instant noodles. Instant ramen and Cup Noodles have become a staple of supermarkets around the world. And over 100 billion servings of instant noodles are consumed every year. So, how did a 48-year-old businessman who knew almost nothing about making noodles start a multibillion-dollar industry?

ONTD, do you like instant ramen? 🍜

Indiewire Critic's Annual Best Films of 2020 Video Countdown

THE 25 BEST FILMS OF 2020: A Video Countdown from david ehrlich on Vimeo.

Indiewire David Ehrlich has uploaded his annual top films of the year countdown, with a twist:

This year's video is also a fundraiser for the Rich Family Foundation, a Louisiana non-profit that "provide(s) families, communities, and the accused of Louisiana with the resources they need to actively engage in their legal matters." This ties into the film at the #1 spot, TIME, which follows the story of Fox and Rob Rich, a formerly incarcerated couple, and the fundraiser is being done in full cooperation with the Rich family and the direction of the documentary, Garrett Bradley. Ehrlich says he will only make a video next year if the GoFundMe hits $10k.

Update: The fundraiser has exceeded its $10k goal! It will be up for a few more weeks.

If you're interested, here's the website with entries from this and past years.

Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are in negotiations to play Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos for Amazon Studios. Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay and will direct. Kidman would be replacing Cate Blanchett and Bardem, who's from Spain, would be playing a Cuban-American.

The film is set during one production week of I Love Lucy when Lucy and Desi face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage.

Selena Gomez's Spanish Era is Coming

Murals in Mexico appear to be teasing songs from Selena Gomez's upcoming Spanish album.

The confirmed track titles “De Una Vez” and “Baila Conmigo” (which is rumored to feature Rauw Alejandro and Maluma) were even liked by Selena herself.

Lana Del Rey Defends New Album Cover

She shared the artwork for her forthcoming album 'Chemtrails Over the Country Club'.
Lana added a comment to defend the shot from potential criticism.

"I also want to say that with everything going on this year! And no this was not intended-these are my best friends, since you are asking today. And damn! As it happens when it comes to my amazing friends and this cover yes there are people of color on this records picture and that's all I'll say about that but thank you. My best friends are rappers my boyfriends have been rappers. My dearest friends have been from all over the place, so before you make comments again about a WOC/POC issue, I'm not the one storming the capital, I'm literally changing the world by putting my life and thoughts and love out there on the table 24 seven. Respect it."

Brendan Fraser Set For Darren Aronofsky and A24's The Whale

Brendan Fraser is set to star in Darren Aronofsky's follow up to "Mother!" for A24. MacArthur winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter will adapt the film based on his critically- acclaimed 2012 play of the same name.

The play's summary: On the outskirts of Mormon Country, Idaho, a six-hundred pound recluse hides away in his apartment eating himself to death. Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen. Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale tells the story of a man's last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.

The OP is here for Brendan Fraser getting some decent work.

Filming will begin in Hawaii later this month.

Amber Heard responds to claim that she didn't donate $7M divorce settlement

(Follow up to this post.)

Amber Heard's lawyer is firing back at Johnny Depp's legal team who is accusing the actress of 'pocketing' the $7M divorce settlement she received from Depp and promised to donate to charity.

"Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfil her pledge."

"However, Amber has been delayed in that goal because Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Depp's false accusations against her."

Morbius moves to October; other delays may be coming too

Sad new friends, you won't get to see Jared Leto as vampire/Spider-Man villain Morbius in March. Sony pushed the film to October 8 because covid continues wrecking havoc with no end in sight. The film was originally scheduled to be released last July.

Expect other major releases set during the first half of the year to be delayed or given a hybrid release as well if things don't improve fast, especially those in March and April.

A Dutch theater owner has reported that No Time to Die is moving from its April release to November. MGM has yet to confirm.

When Kevin Fiege was asked about Black Widow keepings its current date he stated "Confidence is meaningless [...] Don't ask me week by week what is going to happen in this world, I have no idea and don't want to guess."

Dr. Fauci recently stated that if things goes right with the vaccine that herd immunity will occur sometime in the fall, so we are still a long ways to go before the entertainment business as a whole can get back to normal.

Lana Del Rey on Trump's presidency: "As bad as it was, it really needed to happen"

Lana Del Rey gave a lengthy radio interview to BBC Radio 1 where she discussed her new album, Trump's presidency, and the backlash over her cover for 'Chemtrails Over the Country Club'.

On responding to backlash: “Before I even put the album cover up, I knew what people were going to say. I have an answer for them, which is that if you look closer, you will see people of color. It’s a black-and-white image, so zoom in, you know. It’s just weird, you know? My friends, my family, my whatever… we’re not the ones storming the Capitol. [Laughs] We voted for Biden.”

On Trump's Presidency: "The madness of Trump… As bad as it was, it really needed to happen. We really needed a reflection of our world’s greatest problem, which is not climate change, but sociopathy and narcissism. Especially in America. It’s going to kill the world. It’s not capitalism, it’s narcissism…"

On the riots: "I think, for the people who stormed the Capitol, it’s disassociated rage. They want to wile out somewhere. And it’s like, we don’t know how to find a way to be wild in our world. And at the same time, the world is so wild…"

Burger King unveils a 70s-style brand redesign

Goodbye to the blue in their logo! This is how Burger King's products will soon look ^

Their new look features a lot of mustard and burnt orange, to mimic the colours of the food they sell.

“We wanted to use design to close the gap between the negative perceptions people have of fast food and the positive reality of our food story by making the brand feel less synthetic, artificial, and cheap, and more real, crave-able, and tasty,” said Lisa Smith, executive creative director at Jones Knowles Ritchie, the agency used.

This is their first redesign in 20 years.

Taylor Swift Praises Olivia Rodrigo’s Debut Single “Drivers License”

Over the weekend, Swiftie Olivia Rodrigo received some unexpected praise for her debut single, "drivers license," from her very own musical idol, Taylor Swift. The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star celebrated on Instagram that her new single ranked next to Taylor on iTunes’ top songs chart in the US. The “Delicate” singer responded, writing, “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” a line Mama Swift once used to describe her own daughter, Taylor.

Swiftie Rodrigo wrote back to Taylor saying, “Crying like a baby! Thank you for everything u do!!!!!”

Olivia then uploaded a video of herself lipsyncing to Taylor’s speech for her 2007 Horizon Award at the Country Music Awards where she says, “I can’t even believe this and this is definitely the highlight of my senior year.”

“drivers license” is currently expected to debut at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 next week. It’s currently the most streamed song worldwide on Spotify and Apple Music.

The power of TikTok and a good messy Disney break up involving a love triangle.

Olivia’s co-star and ex-boyfriend, Joshua Bassett, is expected to drop his new single “Lie Lie Lie” on January 14th. Gotta capitalize off the interest on TikTok with the youths now before they move on, ya know. Justin Timberlake you are not.

[If you haven’t heard the song yet, you can listen here...]

ONTD, do you have a driver’s license?
