Marvel has finally announced the casting for Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel

Marvel has cast relative newcomer Iman Vellani in the role of Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. Vellani is an 18 year old Canadian actress who is Muslim and is of Pakistani descent.

According to deadline, the plan always was to stay true to the character in finding the right actress to play the role, even if it meant offering a person that was not well known to the public (so all the rumors about Ger*ldine Visw*nathan being a frontrunner for this were pure bullshit).

ONTD Original: Professional Social Climber Max Ehrich's Dating History and Former Friends

Before Demi Lovato started dating Max Ehrich, I knew his face was familiar because of people he was previously linked to. But I noticed that most of these connections I was familiar with seemed to be very strong at first then became nonexistent. So I did some searching and it is not extensive but it's the best I could do because surprise, surprise most of the content is deleted off the internet!

Indie Film Release Guide: October 2nd [An ONTD Original]

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png

We’ve reached October, and the busy release schedule reflects that with some ~spooky~ new picks. This weekend is jam-packed with new releases, some of which are only available in theaters, but most of which are available from home, either right now or in a couple of weeks. Once again, big studios have shied away from releasing anything new, with the exception of Spontaneous from Paramount, which I don't think is gonna make any waves at the box office.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. All films listed will be available at their respective sources on Friday unless otherwise noted. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have already come to VOD: September 25th, September 18th, and September 11th.

ONTD Reading Challenge October: Get a Job! Stay Away From Her!

Hello everyone! It is October, and many of us are getting into a spooky mood (although no Halloween parties this year, please). This month we will be reading a book about or with a prominent creepy character. Now we’re not talking straight-up scary, like a monster, but creepy, an insidious character that gets under your skin and gives you the heebie-jeebies. Not unlike the weirdo from whom Demi Lovato recently got away.

Here we've got 10 suggestions of books with creepy characters. As usual, you are free to look for something else if none of these appeal to you, as long as you stick to the theme, of course.

Subway bread is NOT bread, Ireland’s Supreme Court rules

Ireland’s Supreme Court has ruled that bread sold by Subway contains too much sugar that it cannot be legally defined as bread. The ruling was part of a court case in which a Subway franchisee argued that its business should not be liable for a value-added tax (VAT), which is a consumption tax added to products.

A panel of judges rejected the appeal Tuesday. “There is no dispute that the bread supplied by Subway in its heated sandwiches has a sugar content of 10% of the weight of the flour included in the dough, and thus exceeds the 2% specified,” the judgment read.

The definition of bread was based on Ireland’s Value-Added Tax Act of 1972, which says that ingredients like sugar and fat should not be more than 2 percent of the weight of the flour in the dough. The law is designed to make sure that foods like pastries are taxed differently from bread.

A Subway spokesperson told Yahoo! Life that the company doesn’t agree with the ruling, saying, “Subway’s bread is, of course, bread. We have been baking fresh bread in our restaurants for more than three decades, and our guests return each day for sandwiches made on bread that smells as good as it tastes.”

Thoughts? Is Subway bread, bread or nah?

Amazon says more than 19,000 workers got Covid-19

Between March 1 and Sept. 19, Amazon counted 19,816 presumed or confirmed Covid-19 cases across its roughly 1.37 million Amazon and Whole Foods Market front-line employees across the U.S. The news offered a rare look at Amazon, who took pressure from elected officials and unions for months to close warehouses with outbreaks. Amazon instead has kept facilities open to meet a surge in demand from shoppers stuck at home. Amazon’s lack of transparency, combined with the lack of federal protections for U.S. workers who contract infectious diseases in the workplace, make it almost impossible to track the spread of Covid-19 at one of America’s largest employers during a coronavirus-led boom in online retail.

Another 10-task challenge. You obviously don’t need to do all 10 tasks, choose as many as you want, but I figured it gives you some variety and allows you to pick and choose movies that fit your taste but also maybe lead you to watch something you wouldn’t normally seek out. For each task, you can pick whatever movie fits within the guidelines, I've added links to help you out. I tried to add tasks that would allow you to get movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and/or Hulu – but there’s also Kanopy and Hoopla (both of which you can get free access through your library or university). Have a different movie for each task – that is, don’t have the same movie for task 2 and task 6.

Gabrielle Union & NBC reach a settlement regarding Union's claims of Discrimination

-Gabrielle Union and Nbc reached a mutual settlement regarding Union's claims of Discrimination and a toxic work environment on the set of "America's Got Talent', where she was a judge for a season before being fired.

-Union claimed she was told her hairstyles were "Too Black", and racist joke about Asians was dismissed and just cut out of the show without how to prevent any similar actions from happening again.

-Union alleged that executive producer and producer of the company that produces "AGT", Simon Cowell would smoke indoors causing her allergies to flair up. Rumor had it that Cowell's smoking had been brought up for years and even the California fire Marshall was brought in, but Cowell would just pay the fine.

It Hath Been 10 Years Since Insane Clown Posse Released the Video for "Miracles"

I see miracles ev-er-y day. One of them is the video for "Miracles," by Insane Clown Posse. It was a full decade ago that the duo released the video. (technically they recorded the song in 2009.)

Insane Clown Posse is a rap group whose members dress up as clowns. Their followers are called Juggalos and Juggalettes. Anyways, ICP usually raps about murder, but they released this head-scratcher about "magic" and "miracles."

Some sample lyrics:

  • If magic is all we've ever known
Then it's easy to miss what really goes on
But I've seen miracles in every way
    And I see miracles everyday

  • Hot lava, snow, rain and fog
Long neck giraffes, and pet cats and dogs

  • Fucking rainbows after it rains
There's enough miracles here to blow your brains

Do you believe in miracles?

The existence of this video is proof of miracles

Teen Vogue Speaks with Black CW Actresses Who Are Speaking Out about Racism in the Industry

Teen Vogue spoke to four Black actresses from the CW -- Riverdale's Vanessa Morgan, Riverdale's Asha Bromfield, The Flash's Candice Patton, and Black Lightning's Nafessa Williams -- to further give them a platform to talk about their respective experiences in the industry and what they hope to see in the future after speaking out this past summer (as well as earlier) about systemic racism.

[Vanessa Morgan]

On defending Riverdale co-star Ashleigh Murray on Twitter when someone accused her of being a diva: “Black women we are the first targets. We can be labeled as divas or people want to instantly think we're the bad ones or something like that, or we get attacked first. And I think that comes through the media, how we've been portrayed over years and years — especially when that came to Ashleigh and I...People love to jump to conclusions. People love to think that we're not human and we're not seeing what people are writing. And even though what they're writing is so false and so untrue, it's like it hurts. You know?”

On bonding with other Black actresses of CW/WB shows: “Honestly, during this whole quarantine, I've become so close with — you can call it the sisterhood of The CW — with my fellow Black actresses, and even the other women on Warner Brothers. We talk almost every day on group chat. It's having that community of people that I can relate to, be like, 'OK, that's not just me? It's happening to you, too?'

On changes being made on Riverdale after calling out her marginalization: “After I vocalized my concerns a lot has changed. A lot of people are going to be super happy. I hope I'm a role model to little Black girls out there because my character is definitely going to have an amazing storyline this season, and I'm super happy about it. I'm super happy that my show listened and I'm hoping a lot of other shows will follow suit for other actresses and other minorities that are feeling the same way.”

[Asha Bromfield]

On the past/current treatment of black characters in media: “I've been in this business for over ten years now,” the 25-year-old says. “Black characters [are] being used as these shoulders to cry on, as like, some form of a support system to assist a white character on their journey, and I think that can be really toxic because there's so much more to Black people. Our existence is just as much a vital fabric of this universe in the same way that other people are. When you start from that point and you start to realize our humanity matters, then you start to see that it's dangerous to perpetuate this idea that we are just there to support white people through their woes. These ideas of what it looks like to be Black, what it looked like to be Latino, what it looks like to be Asian — we're fed this idea. Then you give a white person a script and you're like, ‘OK, go write about it.’ It's so hard for them to break out about mental conditioning.”

On what motivates her: “I often think about little Asha and the things that she didn't think was possible for herself, or the things that maybe she did think was possible at a really young age, but then was stunned by what the world tells you is possible. I just think it's so important for people to understand that if you have a dream, if you have a story, share it, do it, go for it. And that truly is what motivates me.”

She also wrote a YA novel, Hurricane Summer, coming out May 2021. It's a coming of age story about a girl visiting her estranged father in Jamaica in the middle of category five Hurricane Gustov.

[Candice Patton]

On the current protest movement: “It makes me very sad because [George Floyd] lost his life. Let's not forget that. There are a lot of positive things that are coming out of this instance in our society, but let's remember, a man had to lose his life for that to happen. It's the worst kind of martyrdom. There's a part of me that's relieved that it's happening, but at the same time, I still feel sick to my stomach that it took this Black man losing his life for people to wake up.”

On limiting social media engagement with fans: “I engage less with my fans, which makes me sad because I want to, but I also want to protect my mental health. I did realize very early on that they were very vocal about their support for me. It means a lot because I was experiencing, at that time, not a lot of support.”

On speaking out more: “I saw these actors and actresses and people in the business kind expressing what they went through. I think it was kind of a cathartic experience for a lot of people to not feel afraid anymore, to start talking about the trauma that they've experienced. That's something I find very interesting that we, as Black people, are finally finding the courage and the strength to speak out without fear of being fired, or whatever the previous punishment we imagined in our head would be. I think that's a really good space for us to be in, to feel encouraged to speak about ourselves so that things can actually change.”

[Nafessa Williams]

On her open letter to E! calling for equality in the industry: “If we're going to fight for this country, if we can give our lives over to this country, then we should be treated fairly. We're really beyond sick and tired of asking to be seen and to be seen fairly and treated equally. That's what it is, as a whole, in Hollywood. What I said in my letter [is that change] starts at the top. It starts with the decision-makers. It starts at the studios. It starts with the networks and it even trickles down to the agents, and the managers, and representation. We're not asking to just be there just to be there, but we're actually qualified.”

On what steps can be taken beyond performative messages: “I think a way of protecting your employees is representing diversity. I think that's really, really important. And allowing people to walk truthfully, whether it be wearing their hair a certain way or making sure they're represented in each boardroom or meeting so that they can have input. And to me, protection is diversity. Protection is an equal-level playing field.”

Drag Race Holland: Drama Queens (Episode 3)

" It’s After the tumultuous ending from the previous episode, the knives have been sharpened extra sharp because in this competition, there is only 1 that can stand in the spotlight. The queens act it out in a scene from the new series: Gooise Drags. Actor Rick Paul van Mulligen tries to teach them the tricks of the trade. And the runway has a Dutch touch: Miss Holland. "

Who won the 2nd season of Love Island USA?

Despite a largely unremarkable broadcast debut last year, as well as complications from COVID-19 that led to a delayed production and the show being set in a Las Vegas hotel rather than tropical Fiji, the sophomore season of Love Island USA concluded last night to rave reviews for being drastically improved from its first. In fact, a good number of seasoned Love Island aficionados have deemed this US season as one of the best seasons worldwide ever.

The show received plaudits for its diverse casting, dramatic twists (including the notorious Casa Amor where Islanders had the option of cheating on their partner), quirky characters, villains to root against and of course love stories to cheer for.

The finale saw 4 couples left in the running to win the top prize of US$100K via public vote:
