*the "blackface" is actually a mud mask.
“Mixed Blessings,” episode 23 in season 3 of the sitcom, aired in 1988. The episode features a storyline where Dorothy's son Michael gets engaged to an older black women named Lorraine and her mother is against the interracial relationship. Lorraine’s family arrives as Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) are testing out a new mud face treatment. The two greet the family with their masks still on, saying to them “This is mud on our faces, we’re not really Black.”
A scene from the episode with said mud masks:
This episode wasn't racist. It centered on Dorothy's son impregnating and marrying an older black woman and was groundbreaking and smart, unlike the Tina Fey foolishness. Blanche and Rose were getting mud facials. Just stop killing us and leave my GGs alone. https://t.co/9ep3xMFYUr

Rosalind Cash was amazing in that Golden Girl episode, as were the women who played her mom and aunts. I wanted them to get a spinoff. That episode tackle racism, ageism and sexism in a smart way. 30 Rock did blackface for foolishness. https://t.co/mT2lTQXnOz
