Reese Witherspoon didn't understand what homosexuality was until she auditioned in Los Angeles

The Little Fires Everywhere star had a virtual Red, White & Blonde reunion with the Watchmen star.

Reese: That great experience of being able to look at a time that was actually 30 years ago and think: "I was a teenager then. What did my mom say about sexuality, race, class? What were the things that I was told that maybe were true or not true? How was I insensitive?" No one spoke to me about sexuality when I was a teenager. I didn't understand what homosexuality was. My grandparents didn't explain it. My parents didn't explain it. I had to learn from somebody I met on an audition in Los Angeles.

Regina: Oh wow.

Reese: We incorporated some of the conversation I had with my grandmother afterward. She said: "Homosexuality is very rare, Reese. That's not a thing that happens very often." And we put it in the script. Elena [her LFE character] says it because that's what was said to me in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1994.

ONTD, when and where did you first learn about heterosexuality?

Elizabeth Banks to star in Universal's THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS

From the popular set of computer games in the 90s - I mean the TV show - I mean the books - will star Elizabeth Banks as Miss Frizzle the science teacher.

The movie will be a live action hybrid, assuming they can't find any real life magic school busses to turn into rocketships.

The Magic School Bus books were first adapted into a PBS animated TV series, featuring Lily Tomlin in the starring role as Ms. Frizzle and aired for 18 consecutive years in the U.S. and in more than 100 countries around the world, making it the longest-running kids science series in history.

There is also a reboot on Netflix but IDT anyone cares about it. No word on if Arnold will take his helment off in space and have his head freeze instantly.

seatbelts, everyone!

Disney's Splash Mountain ride to be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog

The project has been in the works for a year, though of course, no word on when they'll actually get started. The attraction at both parks will be redone.

“With this longstanding history of updating attractions and adding new magic, the retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today,” Disney said in a statement. “The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.”

Splash Mountain is based on "Song of the South", the movie with Uncle Remus singing about how great it is to be a slave. Now they're replacing it with the only black character who isn't Frozone in their Animated Canon, Princess Tiana.

No word on when the white racists will boycott  spending 3000$ per person per day at a theme park and not go.

Indie Publisher Drops Author Over Twitter Dispute Regarding OwnVoices

Another day of drama on book twitter though the current argument is about who can write what. It all started when writer Alisha Hillam tweeted about how white authors shouldn't write from the POV of non-white characters and should have sensitivity readers. This also goes for cis/het authors writing LGBT+ characters and abled authors writing disabled characters.

Author McKayla Eaton disagreed with this, and the two writers had a back and forth on Twitter as well as several non-white authors who Eaton responded to. Though the term "ownvoices" (an author from a marginalized or under-represented group writing about their own experiences/from their own perspective, rather than someone from an outside perspective writing as a character from an underrepresented group) never pops up, that's essentially what's being debated.

[Spoiler (click to open)]

Then, Eaton's publisher dropped her due to people alerting them to her takes. Eaton is now considering taking legal action as she claims this was a breach of contract.

Eiza González apologizes for wearing blackface in old telenovela

[TW racist imagery]

Eiza González has apologized after images of her in blackface from an old telenovela resurfaced.
From her role in “Lola, Érase Una Vez” when she was a teenager in 2007.

“I am deeply sorry and ashamed about having worn blackface makeup shown in the images circulating. As a 15-year-old child actor on my first job in a Mexican telenovela, I was pressured against my will, and with no negotiating power, I could not advocate for myself in the situation. I wish I had the voice and knowledge then that I have now.”

She also addressed resurfaced images of her dressed as a geisha.

“The other image in question is from a trip I took to Japan. According to my host, it is considered an intercultural exchange to dress up in their traditional clothing and makeup. It is seen as an appreciation of their culture, however, I understand that out of context, this calls for a dialogue about contemporary cultural appropriation. As a Mexican woman and an immigrant, I have faced racism and ignorance throughout my life and career. I would never intentionally participate in anything that I knew would cause harm or distress to another person. More than gestures of apology, it is my responsibility to educate myself and use my voice to stand up for others. And again I deeply apologize for hurting anyone.”

The offensive images resurfaced after photos of González and Chalamet kissing.

Bill Cosby’s wife, Camille, breaks silence, suggests #MeToo movement is racist

Camille Cosby, in her first interview in six years.

“First of all, I don’t care what they feel. The #MeToo movement and movements like them have intentional ignorance pertaining to the history of particular white women — not all white women — but particular white women, who have from the very beginning, pertaining to the enslavement of African people, accused black males of sexual assault without any proof whatsoever, no proof, anywhere on the face of the Earth,”

She said her previous comparison of Cosby’s conviction to the lynching of Emmett Till was warranted.

Fandoms collided! Who's the real "Queen B"?

Britney Spears shared a photo of a bee with a crown to her Instagram page.

The Beyhive had an issue with this one, considering Beyoncé has been known as Queen B for quite some time, and Lil Kim fans chimed in, as well.

Phantom of the Opera Miniseries in Development?

-To be produced by Gaumont, a French production company who've produced Netflix' Narcos and F is for Family. Though their UK unit will take the lead.

-Planned as a 6-part miniseries

-To be based on the original 1910 book rather than Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical

-The story is about a masked madman terrorizing the Paris Opera House, particularly young opera singer Christine Daae

-Writer Anthony Horowitz (Alex Rider/Midsomer Murders/James Bond/Foyle's War/Poirot) is attached. Though maybe Deadline should check its sources since this was news to Horowitz

Kristen Bell and Jenny Slate walk away from voicing biracial character on animated comedies

Kristen Bell voices Molly on the new Apple TV+ animated comedy "Central Park" (from Bob's Burgers team) while Jenny Slate has been voicing Missy on the Netflix animated show "Big Mouth" for 3 seasons. Both characters have a white and a black parents on the shows.

In case of Kristen Bell, the creators of the show said that they cast the voice actors before the characters were fully developed and Kristen was perfect for the character that fleshed out despite her being white. The creators have said they they will find a new character for her to voice on the show.

In case of Jenny Slate, she says she related with the character because Missy has a white mom who happens to be Jewish. But she now acknowledges that her reasoning was flawed.

The teams from both shows have said that the plan to cast a biracial or black voice actor for the role.

This started a debate online about whether actors should be able to voice any character despite their race. In Central Park, Daveed Diggs (who is black, in case you didn't know) voices the character of a white woman.

Amanda Peet Gives Honest Take of ‘Game of Thrones’ Finale

Amanda Peet gives her honest take on the finale of “Game of Thrones”, she hesitated before answering, saying Dumb (David Benioff) was "right there" with her in the room.

Amanda says she stands by the show's finale : "I had read it and I loved it when I read it, and I continue to stand  by it," Amanda said. "I just feel like some people didn't want to  say goodbye. I don't know."

"Maybe I'm just too close to it, but I didn't understand the  blowback," she added. "For god's sake, people, it's a television show."

Hands down the worst possible final season ever in the history of Television. Worst than "Lost" and even worst than "Dexter".

ONTD ORIGINAL: Men are indeed trash 🗑️ (part 1)

After the accusations of sexual assault made against Ansel Elgort, I decided to bring back my original ONTD posts but this time focusing on men who prey on young girls. A lot of the information here is based on what's been reported, rumors, and what I've been personally told by one of the woman herself. I may have to “friend with a bike” on one of these accusations because of reasons and to protect those involved but if I didn’t feel comfortable or doubted what I have been told, I would not post it. Thanks to harrys_headband and another user that I shall not name for helping me come up with this list. This is the first post out of however many.

Francis Ford Coppola Denies Claim That He Directed Keanu Reeves to Verbally Abuse Winona Ryder

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Winona claimed that in order to make her cry more, Coppola, 81, began shouting insults at her, including “you whore!”

Francis Ford Coppola released a statement to People Magazine:

“While I think Winona is a wonderful actor, the incident she described is not how it happened, and shouting or abusing people isn’t something I do as a person or as a filmmaker."

He continued:

“In this situation, which I remember clearly, I instructed Gary Oldman—in character as Dracula—to whisper improvised words to her and the other characters, making them as horrific and evil as he could. I don’t know what was said, but improvisation is a common filmmaking practice”
