"Live PD" cancelled by A&E network

A&E has canceled its flagship series Live PD, one of the highest-rated shows on basic cable. A week after Live P.D. was pulled in the wake of George Floyd’s death, the reality series’ hiatus has been made permanent.

This comes a day after Paramount Network cancelled Cops

This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD,” the network said in a statement to Deadline. “Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments.

This week, Austin outlets reported on the March 2019 death of Javier Ambler during a police stop, which was allegedly captured by the Live P.D. crew but the video has been destroyed.

Twitter now challenges you to Read before you Retweet

- Only certain Twitter users on Android devices will be affected by this test for now.

- This self-described "experiment" aims to "improve the health of a conversation as it gets started" as well as to "see if reminding people to read an article before they share it leads to more informed discussion."

- As always with these brand new features, you can just ignore the prompt and "go ahead and Retweet."

Is Heather Dubrow returning to RHOC? Maybe!!!!

Heather Dubrow teased a possible return to The Real Housewives Of Orange County during an appearance on “Behind the Velvet Rope podcast with David Yontef”.

“It's a tough question,” Heather said when asked if she would return to RHOC. “Honestly, I would never say never. You just don't know what life is gonna throw your way or how circumstances change or what you feel like doing. I don't even know what that set of circumstances would look like.”

Do you want Heather back on RHOC?

Indie Film Release Guide: June 12th [An ONTD Original]

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png

Every week, more and more states are opening up things that have been closed since March because of Covid-19 - retail stores, gyms, restaraunts, bars, and most relevant to this post, movie theaters. It's hard to say how successful they will be in reopening, considering there is still no proven treatment or vaccine for Covid-19, but there are obviously a number of people clamoring to get back in the AC and watch movies on the big screen. But for now, studios continue to send their releases to the small screen via streaming and VOD services, and they are highlighted in this post.

Note on last week's new release Shirley: I didn't know this at the time, but it's available on Hulu, if you're interested in watching and didn't want to pay to rent it. Same with The Painter and the Thief from a few weeks ago - I suspect both are available there because of Neon's distribution deal with Hulu.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney - except where noted. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have already come to VOD: June 5th, May 29th, and May 22nd.

Merriam-Webster to Update its Definition of Racism Thanks to One Black Woman from Missouri

Collapse )
Having gotten into many a conversation about racism and injustice where people kept whipping out dictionary definitions of racism to dismiss her, Missouri woman Kennedy Mitchum emailed the publishers of Merriam-Webster to tell them she thought their definition of racism was lacking. And they emailed back that they agreed and are now in the process of updating the definition. In the past, definitions have been short due to print limitations, but that's not as much of a concern with the internet/online versions. The dictionary gets updated/revised about 2-3 times a year so the new definition will probably appear in the next revision.

Their definition at the time: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. / a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles / a political or social system founded on racism

"I kept having to tell them that definition is not representative of what is actually happening in the world. The way that racism occurs in real life is not just prejudice it's the systemic racism that is happening for a lot of black Americans," said Mitchum about these arguments.

After receiving word that Merriam-Webster would update the definition: “I was super happy because I really felt like that was a step in a good direction for a lot of positive change for a lot of different positive conversations that can really help change the world and helps change how people view things.”

"I think we can express this more clearly to bring the idea of an asymmetrical power structure into the language of this definition, but it's there," said editor at large Peter Sokolowski. "The mission for [Noah] Webster himself, you know, back in his first dictionary in 1806, was to essentially present the current active vocabulary of American English and that's still our mission today."

Jessica Mulroney threatens to end black influencer's career after #BlackLivesMatter criticism

I’ve been silent. Not anymore!⁣ ⁣ I’m used to being so transparent on this platform. I think it’s the main reason why most of you follow me. Today, I’m opening up about something that has been haunting me for the last week. I have felt like a complete fraud fighting for racial equality and using my voice openly here, while letting a white woman silence mine behind closed doors. In sharing this very personal story, I know that I am risking a lot. Opening myself up to criticism, bullying and potential ramifications with my job in this space. However, I must speak my truth. Enough is enough. Hopefully my voice will be heard by many and help change things for the next generation and for my daughter Maxwell... because I will be dammed if my child ever has to deal with this level of ignorance.

A post shared by SoSasha (@sashaexeter) on

  • Jessica Mulroney is Meghan Markle's best friend, stylist/TV host, and the millionaire heiress of a Canadian shoe empire. She and her husband Ben Mulroney (son of former Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney) are considered the gatekeepers of elite Toronto society. She has 404k instagram followers.

  • Sasha Exeter is a black Canadian influencer with 58k instagram followers.

  • On Wednesday, Sasha posted an instagram video titled "MY AMY COOPER EXPERIENCE". Sasha describes an experience last week where she despaired at influential people being silent about the Black Lives Matter movement, and made a general call to action on her instagram, urging influencers to use their platform to speak up. She did not call out Jessica by name, or mention her in any way.

  • Jessica was offended anyway, and proceeded to block Sasha on instagram. She then sent Sasha a legal letter as well as several messages saying that she had a TV show to promote and "their lives matter too".

  • Jessica then went a step further and threatened Sasha's livelihood and career, sending her a message that said: "I have also spoken to companies and people about the way you have treated me unfairly. You think your voice matters - well, it only matters if you express it with kindness and without shaming people who are simply trying to learn. Good luck."

  • Again, Sasha did not mention Jessica by name in any way.

  • After the backlash when Sasha posted her video, Jessica unblocked Sasha and commented with an apology: "@sashaexeter, you are right when you say "this shit needs to stop". As leaders, we need to join hands and call out wrongs. I know we have different experiences. And that is something, even in the course of a heated argument, I need to acknowledge and understand. I am unequivocally sorry for not doing that with you and for any hurt I've caused. As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre. It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that. I promise to continue to learn and listen on how I can use my privilege to elevate and support black voices."

  • Jessica's "closest friend" whose experience with race was "front and centre" is presumably Meghan Markle.

Pete Davidson's biggest fear is getting caught masturbating by his Mom

While promoting his new movie The King of Staten Island basement dweller Pete Davidson says he masturbates about 2 times a day with nothing better else to do during the pandemic and that his biggest fear right now is being caught by his mother. He says he makes sure she is showering or cooking before he attempts anything.

He also says the reason he made this movie is to show his mother that he and his sister would he okay if she started dating (Pete's mother has not dated anyone since her husband died nearly 19 years ago). He thinks the reason she never dated was because of guilt and that Pete took up so much of her time being a problem child.

The celebs are at it again with another cringe video, this time about Black Lives Matter

Confluential Films and the NAACP have partnered to launch the impact-oriented campaign, I Take Responsibility, where influential voices from the white community take responsibility for turning the racist tide in America. #itakeresponsibility itakeresponsibility.org #blacklivesmatter

Julianne Moore, Kristen Bell, Sarah Paulson, Aaron Paul, Aly Raisman,  Bethany Joy Lenz, Bryce Dallas Howard, Debra Messing, Ilana Glazer,  Justin Theroux, Kesha, Mark Duplass, Piper Perabo and Stanley Tucci.

Everyone involved in this should be utterly ashamed of themselves. why are they all treating this like some intense table-read? Aaron Paul and Sarah Paulson especially. so fake.

Follow-up post: Jessica Mulroney gets dropped by CTV and sponsors

A follow-up to this post

Since yesterday, self-proclaimed PR expert Jessica Mulroney has posted an Instagram apology, stating that:
-She and Sasha Exeter had a disagreement
-She will allow Black voices to run her social feeds while she learns more
-That she's had an experience with her closest friend (ahem, Meghan Markle) where race was front and centre, that was very educational

But that wasn't good enough, because Sasha Exeter then posted screenshots of legal threats that Jessica sent, after the apology!!

She DM'd Sasha, "Liable suit. Good luck." (She's going to have to learn to spell, too.)

CTV has announced that they are dropping her show I Do, Redo from their platforms. Sponsor Smash & Tess also dropped her. She then posted yet another "apology," saying she will be stepping back from her professional life right now.

Lady Antebellum change their name to "Lady A"

When we set out together almost 14 years ago, we named our band after the Southern ‘antebellum’ style home where we took our first photos. As musicians, it reminded us of all the music born in the South that influenced us… Southern rock, blues, R&B, gospel, and of course country. But we are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery. We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued. Causing pain was never our hearts’ intention, but it doesn’t change the fact that indeed, it did just that. So today, we speak up and make a change. We hope you will dig in and join us.

We understand that many of you may ask the question, ‘Why have you not made this change until now?’ The answer is that we can make no excuse for our lateness to this realization. What we can do is acknowledge it, turn from it and take action.

Beauty insiders are speaking up about Lea Michelle's toxic behavior. Got replaced by Blake Lively.

- Back in 2012 the devil's spawn signed a $1 million deal to be the face of L’Oréal and she had to give a short, on-camera interview about her beauty routine but she had a tantrum during the taping.
- Two questions in, Lea stood up, said she was done and walked out, leaving everyone standing there in shock.
- The head of L’Oréal asked if she was coming back, and her mother said, ‘No, she’s not.’ and left.
- The 5 year deal was cancelled after a year and she was replaced by Blake Lively. LMAOOOO.

Backlash Is Coming Against Shows That Depict "Good Police" and People Are Coming for 'Paw Patrol'

“Paw Patrol” is a children's cartoon about a squad of canine helpers.

In the wake of everything that's happening in the US right now, people have come for Paw Patrol.

The New York Times took a look into the protests and demand for change and how it's impacting all areas of policing, including cartoon ones. "It’s a joke, but it’s also not," Amanda Hess writes for NYT.

“The effort to publicize police brutality also means banishing the good-cop archetype, which reigns on both television and in viral videos of the protests themselves,” writes Hess

A theatrical film Paw Patrol: The Movie is currently scheduled for an August 2021 release.
