ONTD's favorite husband and his wife of more than 4 years, Mollie Gates, have split.

Gates filed for divorce May 28th, citing irreconcilable differences (read: my husband fucking suuuuuucks and I've finally had to accept it and cut my losses). She is requesting spousal support, as she should from this incubus.

Gates and Middleditch married in 2015.

ONTD Original: The Most Overrated TV Show

screen.jpg

There's going to be some reading, click the cut for buttons and voting things.

What is the definition of overrated? The trust women of Merriam Webster view it thusly: "rated or valued too highly". Say, shows that get Emmys for canned laughter and a lot of naked female chests. Merriam, what's popular in your opinion? "commonly liked or approved". Hmm, maybe I should have asked for nominations on two categories: Why Doesn't The General Public Have Taste versus What Does This Show Have To Do For Reviewers To Hop Off Their Dicks.

ONTD does seem to agree on which show imploded hardest: Game of Thrones! Let's just start calling it A Song of Ice and Fire again and complain about the continuously absent books, shall we?

But wait words, didn't you take suggestions? What happened to those! Pfffrt, you ever had anyone do something with your suggestions?

BigHit releases an apology for Suga's use of Jim Jones sample on his mixtape

This is a follow up to our previous post that you can read here.

For context, BTS member Suga (Min Yoongi) recently released his long-awaited second mixtape last week. The mixtape was met with mostly positive reception until it came to people's attention that a sample used on the track What Do You Think was actually from one of infamous cult leader Jim Jones's sermons.  Interestingly, Suga was actually seen on video sampling the sermon back in 2019, but people didn't know what it was for or if it would ever be released, so the story never really took off and was mostly only known to hardcore BTS fans.

People were offended by his use of the sample for a variety of reasons.  Many felt a Korean rapper using this sample was especially insensitive due to the way Jim Jones specifically targeted and victimized black people when recruiting for his cult. People were also offended that the sample seemingly had no relevance to the song's lyrical content (a mostly typical ~flex~ song about his money and accomplishments) rather than being used to make some form of political statement or social commentary.

The story eventually reached Korean fans, who were very upset (understandably, as South Korea has a long, complicated history with religious cults). Outcry from Korean fans must've become too much, because BigHit chose to finally address the situation today.

Collapse )

While some fans consider this an open and shut issue, there are others who still aren't satisfied.

There are many who believe this "Suga didn't do it" excuse is an obvious attempt to "pass the buck", since Yoongi was seen on video working with the sample himself.  The group is often praised for producing and writing most of their own music, especially for their mixtapes.  Additionally, many are disatisfied that the apology came from the company, with no written statement or input from the rapper himself, and only a single sentence noting that he is "embarrassed".

LA Protests Police Brutality; "Honorary Black Man" Quentin Tarantino Silent

The social media account for the New Beverly Cinema, owned by Quentin Tarantino, has remained quiet on the subject of George Floyd's murder by police and the ensuing protests against police brutality that have erupted nationwide, including Los Angeles (including the New Beverly's home, Beverly Hills)... until today, when they took the time to post a photo of the vandalized theater following the protests:

With absolutely no mention of supporting the protesters or the BLM movement in their caption, the photo of the "damage" left leaves no question what sort of response they hoped to elicit.

(Like the rest of Beverly Hills, in less than twenty-four hours, it has already been repainted and "repaired".)

In a pleasant surprise, many New Beverly patrons sounded off in the comments, criticizing QT and the staff running his Instagram account for the tonedeaf nature of the post.

Tarantino has yet to speak on the topic. Perhaps he's waiting for Samuel L. Jackson to text back, first.

Bachelorette Hannah Brown apologizes again for using the n-word

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CA1Gvz6nwur/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

- After her initial weak ass "apology," former Bachelorette Hannah Brown has posted a 20-minute video on Instagram apologizing for previously using the n-word while she was singing along to DaBaby's "Rockstar"

- Brown says she didn't speak out for the past two weeks because she "had to go through a process" and was working with an "educator" because she "didn't know a lot" about this history of the n-word

- “What I did was something extremely serious and I did not want to continue repeating this long history of white people not taking accountability and responsibility for their actions when people of color, black people, call them out on their behavior,” Brown said

- Brown said she was drunk when she used the slur, but says she doesn't want to be "an ignorant white girl who uses the N-word"

- “If you want to support me, do not defend me. What I did, what I said was indefensible. I don’t need anybody to defend me for what I did because what I said, what I did was wrong. But I’m hoping that what I did was wrong but what I didn’t know even before is the worst part of it, and it’s the ignorance. I’m no longer ignorant and I’m no longer going to be part of the problem... I will be a part of the solution, and you will see that. From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry. I’m sorry to everyone I hurt and disappointed. I promise to continue doing better, I promise.”

Paris Jackson tweets "peaceful protesting is the only way", gets dragged

· After attending a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles, where she says she was shot at by police, Paris Jackson inexplicably took to Twitter to condemn violent protesters (and not the police who shot at her). She was promptly dragged (and one Twitter user told her to "donate some of that heehee money girl" lmao) and came back 4 hours to delete the tweet and fight with Twitter users (many of them Black) about whether she was right. She posted a similar sentiment on Instagram, where she was gently gathered by a friend, to which Paris said "the riots of '92 got us nowhere"

Corona virus strikes again: Gucci will stop with seasons

Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele revealed on Instagram that in the light of Covid-19 the fashion brand will “abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence.” Instead of the traditional fashion calendar of “cruise, pre-fall, spring/summer, autumn/winter,” Michele says, “We will meet just twice a year, to share the chapters of a new story. Irregular, joyful and absolutely free chapters.”

Major brands conventionally follow a hectic schedule of separate men's and women's runway events at seasons during fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London and Milan. But the corona virus pandemic has intensified concerns about the environmental and economic sustainability of the jet-setting schedule and the cycles of consumption it encourages. He said his new strategy emerged while confined to his home during lockdown.

Despite increasing calls for industry-wide change, conglomerate-owned brands, such as those under LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, as well as individual titans like Chanel – all of which depend on a high-volume turnover of apparel and accessories to generate multi-billion dollar revenues each year – have been hesitant to jump on the bandwagon.

J.R. Smith Beats Up Person Who Smashed His Truck Windows

Footage emerged of basketball player J.R. Smith beating up someone who allegedly broke his truck windows. Smith got online to explain that is indeed what happened.

"One of these little motherfucking white boys, didn't know where he was going, and broke my fucking window. At my truck. Broke my shit. This was a residential area. There was no stores over here, none of that shit. Broke my window. I chased him down and whooped his ass! So if the footage come out, and y'all see it, I chased him down and whooped his ass, he broke my window. This ain't no hate crime. I ain't go no problem with nobody who ain't got no problem with me. It's a problem with the motherfucking system, that's it. The motherfucker broke my window, and I whooped his ass. He didn't know who window he broke, and he got his ass whooped. Just so y'all see it later, I'm tell y'all now.

Basketball fans are joking about how May 31 should be J.R. Smith day because of the time he ran up the clock two years ago during the NBA Finals.

KPop Stans Spam Fancams for Good By Spamming Dallas PD Surveillance App Until It's Taken Down

Christian Siriano's ex-husband, Brad Walsh (who is also a singer), commended Kpop stans for spamming fancams for good.

Earlier today, the Dallas Police Department announced an app, called iWatch Dallas, where people could submit footage of "illegal activity" from protests so they could follow up on it.

A Kpop stan called on their fellow KPop fans to spam the app with fancams, and it now looks like the app has been "temporarily" taken down due to "technical difficulties".

Though the OP who rallied fans has since deleted their initial tweet and told people to scrub the app from their phones since of course something made by the police collects your information.

Washed-Up Reality 'Star' Stephanie Pratt Wants to 'Shoot the Looters'

In more horrible people telling on themselves news....Stephanie Pratt (brother of Spencer Pratt and supporting character on The Hills and 2019's reboot The Hills: New Beginnings) tweeted today in support of shooting looters for "using this tragedy as their excuse to rob and burn all of our towns down."

Many Twitter users were quick to point out that this is the same woman who was arrested for shoplifting in 2006 after stealing $1,300 worth of merchandise from a Neiman Marcus. That's sad, huh?
