Current season of terrace house cancelled due to suicide of cast member

Fuji TV announced on Wednesday evening its hit show “Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020” has been canceled following the death of one of its young stars, 22-year-old pro wrestler Hana Kimura.

A message on the official website reads “We would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of Hana Kimura … We take the incident seriously and will continue to respond to it in a sincere manner.”

The show was already on hiatus due to the pandemic but episodes were lined up to air. A large amount of cyberbullying has been cited as possible cause of Kimura’s suicide. Screenshots have been shared calling her a “gorilla” and telling her to “hurry up and disappear.”

Kimura’s death has shocked Japan’s pop culture sphere and ignited outrage from the nation’s entertainment industry, from singers and models to actors and athletes, releasing statement condemning the events.

This even inspired former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to make a statement against online harassment. “If you criticize someone, you should speak up using your real name,” Hatoyama said in a tweet. “I think there should be a serious punishment for such slander.”

“Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020” is Fuji TV’s second-most watched program in Japan following “The Naked Director.”

Burger King is serving "Social Distancing Whoppers" in Italy and "Social Distance Crowns" in Germany

The Social Distancing Whopper is your classic BK Whopper but with breathtakingly offensive "triple onions that keeps others away from you."

"We wanted to reinforce the rules of high safety and hygiene standards that the BK restaurants are following. The do-it-yourself Social-Distance Crown was a fun and playful way to remind our guests to practice social distancing while they are enjoying food in the restaurants."

Melanie C Channels Mortal Kombat in New Music Video — "Blame It On Me"

The sportiest of Spices has dropped a new single today and it's a bit of a bop! (It's quarantine—let a mid-thirties gay have this.) In the accompanying music video, Melanie C plays a Mortal Kombat-style fighter being controlled by a woman playing games on her office computer.

Anyone else still following Mel C's post-Spice Girls career? I absolutely loved "Anymore" and "Numb." Plus, "High Heels" is a fun going-out bop!

Dakota Johnson's Grandmother, Tippi Hedren, Owns 13 Lions and Tigers

Step aside, Tiger King. Tippi Hedren, the mother of Melanie Griffith and grandmother of Dakota Johnson, still collects big cats.

Dakota made an appearance on Graham Norton's show via satellite and confirmed that Tippi still owns 13-14 lions and tigers. Dakota says that Hedren used to own 60 big cats.

Hedren and Griffith famously posed with their pet lion for a photoshoot in Life magazine in 1971.

Guess the controversy from the Netflix series Tiger King didn't phase either of them.

In a dream world where you could own any animal safely and humanely, what would it be?

Hope those poor lions and tigers are okay.

Joe Rogan says talking about his $100M deal "feels gross" during a time "when people can't work"

The news radio actor reportedly inked a deal worth $100 million to move both the audio and video version of his popular podcast to Spotify with exclusive rights starting later this year.

While Rogan hasn’t confirmed the exact figure Spotify shelled out to land his podcast, he almost sounded conflicted when asked about the gaudy amount of money he was just paid.

“Weirdly richer,” Rogan said, when asked how much wealth he gained from this deal. “Like it doesn’t register. Seems fake.

“It feels gross. Especially right now, when people can’t work.”

Don't feel too bad for the guy, he supports 45.

Octavia Spencer turns 50, admits she lied about her age

the Academy Award winner posted a video from her backyard, celebrating her birthday.

Imdb and Wiki list her birthday as May 25, 1972, but she said she is really turning 50 and how trivial it now seems to lie about her age:

Sitting out here in the backyard drinking some sangria eating some potato chips listening to Ronnie Milsap, celebrating my birthday. The big 5-0. I know I’ve been saying I’m 48, but the Internet will always win. People putting dates and numbers. ‘I thought we went to school together I’m 50. How are you 48?’

‘Because I want to be.’

All of that seems so trivial right now. I’m grateful to be turning 50, especially right now when we’ve lost so many.

Critics say the new Netflix sitcom starring Steve Carell "Space Force" sucks

The Daily Beast: "largely unfunny" with "little to warrant a recommendation," and "there is an absence of a point of view,"

Entertainment Weekly: "an innocuous and startlingly unfunny sitcom" that "often plays like a show that was reverse-engineered around a title"

Variety: "just okay" and sometimes "buckles under the weight of its own ambition"

Rolling Stone: The Office and Michael Scott weren't funny at first either but "Daniels and Carell apparently had to learn the original Michael lesson all over again, on a much bigger scale, rendering much of Space Force uncomfortable to watch at best."

Time: "how did a show created by the minds behind The Office make such a bust?"

Netflix is skipping fall film festivals

No matter how the upcoming fall film festival season plays out, Netflix has decided that it's not bothering and will skip them all entirely.

Films scheduled for the fall from the streamer include Mank, Hillbilly Elegy, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, The 40-Year-Old Version, and White Tiger. Its upcoming Da 5 Bloods was also scheduled to debut at Cannes.

The Venice Film Festival announced that it is still scheduled to take place from September 2-12, but hasn't given many details on how other than it being scaled down. TIFF says that they are looking on onsite and virtual ways to hold its festival and is expected to have a much smaller lineup, and may have a different schedule than the current September 10-20. Both Telluride and New York are still proceeding as planned.

Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge - Trailer

Carefully designed trials will reveal who is capable of becoming a Jedi Knight. Hosted by Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks, but as a human being). Will air on the Star Wars Kids Youtube Channel.

It looks so "Legends of the Hidden Temple" esque. Also I'm glad that Ahmed returned to Star Wars in some capacity after how nasty fans were about him.

YouTube family influencers rehomed adopted Chinese special needs boy

YouTube person with almost one million followers who shared her family’s experience of adopting a toddler from China, Myka Stauffer, announced on Tuesday that she and her husband had rehomed their child after behavioral issues.

Causing a firestorm on social media with many questioning the ethics of Myka, after she spent years sharing intimate details of her son’s life on a monetized channel. Making his story a key theme on her channel, which exploded in popularity and landed her several high-profile sponsorships, turning herself an advocate for international adoption. These sparked a debate on the rights of children on social media, has led to an outcry against the couple and their decision to monetize their and their children’s lives.

Myka produced 27 videos about their “adoption journey,” and the process of adopting from China which led to her writing articles on adoption from different races and countries. The final video where they all go to China and pick Huxley up was a huge hit, viewed more than 5.5 million times, getting sponsorships and turning into a figure in parenting influencers community.

In late winter and early spring, followers began to notice Huxley had stopped appearing in videos. In Myka’s last post featuring Huxley, on Feb. 16, discussed the difficulties of dealing with his special needs. On Mother’s Day she wrote it was the “hardest” holiday she’d had. After pressure from followers to know the whereabouts of the kid, they finally admitted that they had removed him from their home and placed him with another family. This was made for Huxley’s emotional well-being, since Huxley had several special needs they weren’t aware of until he came home to the USA.

The couple said they stayed silent to give Huxley privacy and for legal reasons. However, many people were uncomfortable, since Huxley had been a big part of the monetized channel and because they dragged the boy all the way from China, making him start all over again, then giving up on him, while Myka gained followers and sponsorships from him.

John Krasinski explains why he sold 'Some Good News' to ViacomCBS

John was a guest on Rainn Wilson's IG live and chatted about selling 'Some Good News' to CBS, a decision lots of people were not happy with

"It was one of those things where I was only planning on doing eight of them during quarantine, because I have these other things that I'm going to be having to do very soon, like 'Jack Ryan' and all this other stuff."

"More than that...writing, directing, and producing -- all those things -- with a couple of my friends was so much."

"I would love to keep doing the show from my office forever. It just wasn't sustainable."

"In eight weeks [Some Good News] went from not existing to now being on one of these huge news networks. We have a lot of really fun stuff planned, and I can't wait to dig in. I'm going to be a part of it whenever I can, and I'm going to host a couple [episodes] and bring on a different community of people. But we're really, really excited about it. I've received the most amazingly kind notes about how much that show meant to everyone, but the truth is, it meant no more to anyone than me. That's probably the most emotionally fulfilled I've ever felt in my entire life."
