Taika Waititi covers Variety

https://instagram.com/p/B8emokpBVjF

The morning after the #AcademyAwards, Variety caught up with newly minted (and hungover) winner Taika Waititi to go inside his #JojoRabbit journey to the #Oscars and get to the bottom of those pesky #StarWars rumors. (Swipe for more)

+ On deciding to dedicate his win to the indigenous kids of the world: I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Growing up in New Zealand, dancing and doing art — these things were frowned upon, or seen as weird behaviors. It’s changed a lot, but there’s still pockets in New Zealand and around the world of kids who think they need to give up storytelling, or give up being creative. I wanted to try and communicate to kids who grew up like I did, or are growing up like I did. To say to them, it’s OK to want to be an artist.
+ On being a brown person working in Hollywood: Because I’m from New Zealand, people find it kind of charming. They think, “Oh, those quirky people with those weird accents!” I don’t think they see us as brown people. I don’t think when Maori come to America, they see us in the same light as Mexicans or Hispanics. I’ve never felt prejudice toward me here in L.A., even though I know it exists. I’m probably lucky I have a weird accent!
+ On Parasite sweeping the Oscars: I was so happy. The fact that it’s the first movie to win foreign film and best picture is incredible. I love Bong Joon Ho so much. “Memories of Murder” is on my top-five list when I talk about films I love.
+ On criticism for Jojo Rabbit and people not knowing he's Jewish: Yeah! They did a press screening with a lot of Jewish press, and a lot of the comments were “I wish we’d known that he was Jewish before we’d watched the movie.” It feels almost like buying into it, if you start considering the fact that you might have to put on the poster: “Don’t worry, the director’s Jewish!” Or: “I know how you’re feeling. Just watch it.”
+ On liking for Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie to be explicitly queer in Thor: I think so. The IP is not mine. But with the actors, I feel whatever makes them comfortable — whether they feel like there’s a natural choice, or a natural way for that character to go — then I’m pretty supportive. If Tessa wanted to do that, I’m in.
+ On those Star Wars rumors: I wish there was a better story, I’ll put it that way. Are there discussions about the “Star Wars” film? Like, yeah, I discussed with my friends in 1996 how cool “Star Wars” was. That’s what they’re going off. I think people see me hanging out with people, especially with “Star Wars,” and think I’m having some big discussions about it. I would f—ing love to.
+ On Akira: The whole thing went on hold. We had to keep pushing the dates, and it encroached on the “Thor” dates, which were immovable. So “Akira” ended up shifting two years down the track. Post-“Thor.” So I’m not sure if even in two years I’d be — I don’t know what I’m doing in f—ing two days. I think eventually it will happen. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing it.

In early 2017, Papa John’s was enjoying steady growth, a high-profile partnership with the NFL and rapid international expansion. Spotify & HBO Max In Final Talks To Adapt Podcast Series ‘The Two Princes’ Into Film

The podcast stars Noah Galvin, Samira Wiley, Cynthia Erivo, Christine Baranski and Ari’el Stachel. No word if they will be the voices in the film.

Kevin Christopher Snipes, who is the writer of the podcast series, will work on the adaptation.

Season 1 follows Prince Rupert, who sets out to break the mysterious curse that’s destroying his kingdom. He’s ready to face whatever dastardly villain or vile monster stands in his way. What he isn’t prepared for are the bewildering new emotions he feels when he meets the handsome Amir, a rival prince on a quest to save his own realm.

Warner Horizon/Warner Bros. Animation will be animating. Is that WAG, or another one that doesn't churn out endless unfunny adaptations of the properties WB owns?

Corey Feldman is about to reveal Hollywood's high profile pedophiles.

- Corey Feldman will go public with allegations of pedophilia against several Hollywood power players in the documentary (my) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys which will be released as a one-time pay per view live event, streaming March 9. That stream will be the only time the documentary will be available for viewing, there will be no-repeats nor it'll be available later on streaming platforms.

- The documentary will chronicle the sexual abuse of Feldman and his frequent costar Corey Haim at the hands of a number of high powerful Hollywood men early on in the careers.

- Feldman promised Haim before his death that he would go public with the identities of their abusers. He’s attempted to do so for more than 10 years, but run into legal issues with identifying their attackers. That includes a memoir released in 2013, in which lawyers forced Feldman to change the names to protect his abusers. That's why the documentary has such an unusual distribution strategy. Since it may stem from legal issues surrounding its content. The film, financed entirely by Feldman, will air only once on pay per view.

Names included on the cape of Portman’s dress included Lorene Scafaria (“Hustlers”), Lulu Wang (“The Farewell”), Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”), Alma Har’el (“Honey Boy”), and Céline Sciamma (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”), among others.

Some have praised Portman for using Oscars fashion to put the Academy on blast.

Actual Aladdin Live Action SEQUEL in the Works

NOT the spinoff with the white character, a bona-fied sequel to 2019's live action ALADDIN movie is in the works.

I'm sure Mena will be back, and Naomi and Will, but no word on if Guy Ritchie will be back. Seeing as this is a sequel to a popular movie of his, that's probably gonna be a big no.

It will be a theatrical release.

Natalie Portman Responds to Rose McGowan Diss

Follow up this post
Natalie Portman responded to a lengthy attack from Rose McGowan.

“I agree with Ms. McGowan that it is inaccurate to call me ‘brave’ for wearing a garment with women’s names on it. Brave is a term I more strongly associate with actions like those of the women who have been testifying against Harvey Weinstein the last few weeks, under incredible pressure.”

“It is true I’ve only made a few films with women. In my long career, I’ve only gotten the chance to work with female directors a few times – I’ve made shorts, commercials, music videos and features with Marya Cohen, Mira Nair, Rebecca Zlotowski, Anna Rose Holmer, Sofia Coppola, Shirin Neshat and myself. Unfortunately, the unmade films I have tried to make are a ghost history.”

“So I want to say, I have tried, and I will keep trying. While I have not yet been successful, I am hopeful that we are stepping into a new day.”
