Lana Del Rey announces spoken word album dropping January 4

Lana Del Rey announced yesterday that she will be digitally releasing a spoken word album of "freestyle poetry" on January 4, 2020. The album is intended to tide fans over until hand-production of her long-delayed poetry book, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, is completed.

In a video posted to her Instagram, Del Rey said that while she originally intended to sell the album for $1, she realized it was a great opportunity to fundraise for various Native American organizations, something she's been wanting to do for some time. (It's worth noting that back in 2012, the singer-songwriter was criticized for donning a Native American headdress in her music video for "Ride.")

"In doing work on connecting to my own family lineage, I was encouraged to also try and connect to the country's lineage," she said. "I really wanted to pay homage to the country that I love by doing my own reparation, I guess I would say, my own reparative act. So as long as my spoken word album is distributed, half of it[s proceeds] will go to Native American organizations."

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" obviously tops the box office with $40 Million on Thursday night

Surprise, surprise, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" is obviously going to top the box office this weekend. It already made an insane $40 Million from sold-out Thursday night shows in U.S./Canada, and is expected to bring in around $170M-$200M this weekend (on a $250M–300M budget).

On a related note, apparently it's bombing in China, which... yikes:

Trailing eons behind it is the embarrassing 'Cats', which made $550,000 on Thursday, and is anticipated to make around $15M this weekend (on a $95 million budget what the fuck).

First trailer for the 'Force Majeure' remake “Downhill”

Barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, a married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.

Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell, the film opens February 14, 2020. The film is a remake of the 2014 Swedish film “Force Majeure.”

New Mutants star swears the movie is coming in 2020

New Mutants star Charlie Heaton recently attended the For Love of Sci-fi convention in Manchester, England, and was asked about whether the movie is ever coming out. Charlie assured fans that yes, the movie is coming out in 2020. The film is stated for an April 3 release, but Charlie never mentioned that date, so for all we know it still might get delayed.

Filming for New Mutants wrapped in 2017 and was originally scheduled to be released April 13, 2018 before that date changed three times. Reshoots were supposed to happen this year, but never did, and its unknown if they'll actually even happen at this point.

Outside of its trailer and poster released two years ago, the film has gone untouched marketing-wise and is the only Disney/Fox property being released in the first half of 2020 that doesn't have a current marketing campaign.

Jane Lynch Defends Wine Caves

The breakout star of last night's Democratic presidential debate was Sen. Amy Klobuchar's ability to body South Bend, Indiana's Peter Buttigieg without breaking a sweat. The second breakout star? Wine caves! This week Peter from South Bend was hosted at a $2,800 minimum per plate fundraiser where he and the soulless capitalists stuffing his pockets enjoyed $900 bottles of wine under the most absurd crystal chandelier possible in a wine cave in Napa Valley. The optics were truly terrible. The wine cave was brought up multiple times during the debate and it has been trending on Twitter ever since. Former Glee star and Buttigieg donor, Jane Lynch, came to the defense of wine caves, billionaires and Peter on Twitter, going so far as to accuse Elizabeth Warren of... class warfare?

ONTD, how many times a day do you start class warfare? How do you feel about wine caves?

Helen Hunt & Paul Reiser are promoting the reboot of Mad About You on Spectrum

Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
Paul and Jamie Buckman are back! Helen looks the same. Paul looks larger. Joy asks if they do Christmas. PR talks about the show. HH says she thinks they’re talking about irl (lol), they’re not actually married. She’s going to Star Wars. Abby mentions inclusivity, now HH is a director. Shows photo of other directors, lots of poc and women. HH talks about showrunners, and didn’t want to be on another set with mostly one demographic. You have to keep hiring different kinds of people. They’re not just women or poc, they’re great directors. Joy asks about GG ignoring women and poc directors. HH talks about her experience, and the different between men and women. Joy says tv has been around since mid 1940s and still here we are. Sunny describes the show, his comedy bit. Sunny knows him from MAY, but her son knows him from Stranger Things. He was nominated for SAG for The Kominsky Method. Says his worth is dependent on the demographic, mostly older.

Joy mentions the other cast of MAY is also back. HH talks about the actress they cast for their daughter. PR says the weirdest thing (rebooting) is that it wasn’t weird, felt so familiar. Abby loves the chemistry, it feels real. PR says he and HH stayed in touch. It was America’s idea to bring back the show. Talked about the premise of the new version, picking up after their daughter is grown and leaves, so they’re alone again.

Whitney Cummings says intern reported her to HR for saying ‘Merry Christmas’

She was reported to human resources last year for saying “Merry Christmas” to an intern.
“That’s true. I was leaving … I was like, ‘Bye, guys. Merry Christmas.’ Like just a formality, what you would say. I come back, like, June 6th. HR calls me and they’re like, ‘Hey, we need to talk to you. One of the interns is pissed off that you said ‘Merry Christmas.'”

She asked the HR official what could she have said before they informed her that the intern was “agnostic.”
“I was like, no, no, no, no, no. You do not get to do that. Because had I known that this person was agnostic, that would mean we were in a relationship, like, that would mean we were intimately connected. I should not know who believes in God and who doesn’t. I also can’t guess either, you know?”

Harry Styles debuts at no. 1 in the US with 476k in sales

Harry Styles’ second studio album “Fine Line” (Columbia) crosses the finish line in first place, debuting with sales of 476k (386k in pure sales). This marks the third biggest opening this year behind Taylor Swift and Post Malone.

The official Nielsen SoundScan/Billboard numbers won’t be released until next week, but those numbers won’t differ too much. A no. 1 debut and sales over 400k+ on that chart is pretty much guaranteed.

Hulu Loses Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles

In "Nobody who knows what Anne Rice is like is surprised" news, Hulu has announced that they are no longer moving forward with the book-to-series Vampire Chronicles TV show.

However, Rice & Co step forward into the anything-can-now-get-on-a-streaming-platform world undaunted, with Rice shopping the entire intellectual property and is looking for a complete buyout of the film and TV rights. Among the reported four new bidders is said to be none other than Paramount.

The intellectual property includes both The Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches, which is currently under the control of Warner Bros.

The asking price is $30-$40 million, along with an extra $2.5 million to buy out Warner Bros.

Bryan Fuller was previously attached to the project before he peaced out in January 2018, with Dee Johnson taking over as showrunner.

The Affair's Sarah Treem Responds to Article on Misconduct, Ruth Wilson's Exit

Follow up to this post

The Affair Showrunner Sarah Treem has written a column for Deadline in response to the Hollywood Reporter article on the behind the scenes drama and alleged misconduct involving Ruth Wilson.

She claims little of her POV made it into the article, and they also neglected to include the perspectives of "the half dozen" senior level producers, director and other crew members. She also says the character of Allison was based on herself and her own trauma, which she didn't want to admit but the article forced her hand.

Open Letter to Hollywood to include Disabled Actors Gets Major Signers

There's an open letter by the Ruderman Family Foundation calling on Hollywood executives to audition and hire people with disabilities.

The article makes a big deal out of mentioning Edward Norton (Whose latest film could, apparently, have starred a disabled actor, but instead stars Norton himself), Bryan Cranston ("The Upside") and Mark Ruffalo.

“Despite its immense potential for leadership in inclusion, social justice and civil rights, Hollywood has for far too long left disability out of the conversation about diversity,” Jay Ruderman, president of the Ruderman Family Foundation, said.

(AKA: Hollywood is all talk and no action)

The Ruderman foundation has began certifying movies and shows with a seal of approval for authentic reprsentation.

Other signers include Orlando Jones, Danny DeVito, Glenn Close, Norman Lear, & Peter Farrelly (One of the clowns who brought us "Green Book").

B) I spent this entire write up going "Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it" when I read Ruffalo's involvement.
