JK Rowling Tweets in Support of Woman who was Fired for Alleged Transphobia

JK Rowling, who has previously come under fire for following radical feminists who have been accused of being terfs such as Magdalen Berns, has just publicly weighed in on the Maya Forstater controversy by saying she supports Forstater.

Maya Forstater is a tax expert whose work - Centre for Global Development (CGD) - fired her for tweets upholding the idea of biological difference such as "I think that male people are not women. I don’t think being a woman/female is a matter of identity or womanly feelings. It is biology." Forstater has said that in her personal life she uses preferred pronouns. The work's decision was upheld recently by an employment tribunal.

JK Rowling has gotten a lot of replies already accusing her of being a terf.

Andre 3000 does an interview with Rick Rubin's podcast, talks anxiety and inspirations

Andre 3000 gave a really interesting interview on Rick Rubin's podcast, Broken Record Pod.

- He's really not inspired right now and is struggling with confidence as well as Social Anxiety Disorder and being hypersensitive.

- "I haven't been making much music, man. My focus is not there. My confidence is not there."

- He doesn't like how everything he releases is instantly picked apart, saying 'Any little thing I put out... people nitpick it with a fine-tooth comb. 'Oh, he said that word!' And that's not a great place to create from. And it makes you draw back."

- He's really inspired by instrumental music at the moment and has started playing the bass clarinet: "What makes me feel the best is when I do these random... instrumental kind of things. They make me feel the most rebellious."

- He discusses his creative process in The Dungeon a lot, and his fashion inspirations, ranging from Missy Elliot to Parliament.

Indie Film Release Guide: December 20th [An ONTD Original]

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png

This weekend is the start of several weeks in a row with little to offer in the way of new indie film releases, so if the post seems unusually short to you, it’s only because the offerings this time of year are pretty slim thanks to the domination of big studio competition like Cats and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. If it wasn’t in your area last week, Bombshell may now be in a theater near you, along with other films that may have expanded their releases.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have just opened near you: December 13th, December 6th, and November 27th.

Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
Abby says GG and her partner Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story) had a special year. GG says they just had a baby. Two movies and a baby = insane but wonderful. Re/holidays, you have to do the things properly so you can prove to them later that you did do all the things. Joy says she’s had great success as a director, re/Lady Bird. Wonders if she’s recognized. GG says she lives near NYU and she has fans approach her and say GG was inspiring (them) to become a director. GG has the fan moment but then makes them promise that they’ll make their movies. Joy asks how they should start. GG talks all the different ways, use your phone, get it on the internet, practice over and over. Joy wishes she had that as a kid because her family was so funny, but she put them in her stand up instead. Joy wonders if GG has fan moments with others. GG talks about Meryl Streep in her movie, fanned out on her. Also got to meet Angela Merkel, got very nervous. Talks about their interaction. Abby zones out, missed her beat. Moves to the film, she’s seen all the versions. Joy asks which sister she is. Abby says maybe Beth, even though she dies, because she’s an honest person. Asked GG why she wanted to re-create Little Women. GG explains her evolution of making this film. Managed to talk to Sony before she made Lady Bird. GG explains other themes she sees in the film.

Sunny loves the cast. GG says Meryl told GG she was going to be in her movie (lol). GG and MS had a conversation about storytelling, MS gave a speech about that era. GG gave that conversation to Amy character (Florence Pugh). Abby zones out again, says Emma is a great character even though she dies. Panel is like, BETH dies. Not Emma. Loool.

Multiple Studios, Including Universal, Are Bidding for LEGO MOVIE Rights

In "Ok, someone else realized these movies were getting repetitive as fuck," news, Warner / WAG is apparently giving up the license to make movies based upon the bricks.

The characters created by Warner Animation Group in their movies "The Lego Movie", "The Lego Batman Movie", "The Lego Ninjago Movie" (Which the source didn't even mention), and "The Lego Movie 2" would remain at Warner.

Whatever studio gets the rights would make an entirely new LEGO Cinematic Universe.

This is rumored to be based upon a green light deal that didn't happen. Movies in the LEGO universe unmade at WB include "The Billion Brick Race".

James Cameron thinks Avatar 2 will overtake Avengers: Endgame at the box office

Director James Cameron said he thinks “it’s a certainty” that the long-delayed sequel to his 2009 film “Avatar” will do better than Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Earlier this year, Endgame made $2.79 billion, surpassing “Avatar” to become the highest-grossing movie of all-time. It’s a record Cameron held onto for a little over two decades, with his 1997 classic “Titanic” sitting atop the global box office charts until “Avatar” took its place.

“I think it’s a certainty,” Cameron said in an interview with USA Today. “But let’s give Endgame their moment and let’s celebrate that people are going to the movie theater.”

He continues, “I don’t want to sound snarky after I took the high road (by offering congratulations). But they beat us by one quarter of a percent. I did the math in my head while driving in this morning. I think accountants call that a rounding error.”

Cameron added that Endgame’s success gives him hope that his sequels could still achieve major box office success despite the rising popularity of streaming services. “This gives me heart to go forward,” he says.

“Avatar 2” is “scheduled” for a December 2021 release.

10 Movies That Changed CGI This Decade | Movies Insider

We all know seeing a movie behind-the-scenes looks cool but what I really want to get at is how has CGI changed over the last ten years? Many of these movies bring up ethical questions - can you just de-age someone? bring a dead actor to life with technology? And is there such a thing as using so much CGI that you've actually just made an animated movie?

Ex-Vegan YouTuber Eats Nothing but Meat for 30 Days

alyse parker dog.png

Alyse Parker built a social media following as a vegan YouTuber. But after she lied to her followers and secretly began eating meat for a year while still making "vegan" videos, she decided to do a complete 180. She took the "carnivore challenge" to eat nothing but meat for a full month.

Many people are claiming that she faked the all-meat diet, since there is very little footage of her eating meat on different days.

She continues to defend herself and claims that veganism can be just as extreme and bad for the environment as eating only meat.
