Charlize Theron details the night her mother killed her father when she was 15




-Charlize Theron opened up about the night her mother shot and killed her father in self - defense.

- Theron" My father was so drunk that he shouldn't have been able to walk when he came into the house with a gun, My mom and I were in my bedroom leaning against the door because he was trying to push through the door". " So both of us were leaning against the door from the inside to have him not be able to push through. He took a step back and just shot through the door three times. None of the bullets ever hit us which is just a miracle".

- Theron's mother shot her husband to death,but was not charged due to it being an act of self-defense.


- The moment stayed with the actress. Theron" This family violence,this kind of violence happens within the family,is something that I share with a lot of people. I'm not ashamed to talk about it , because I do think the more we talk about these things,the more we realize we are not alone in any of it".


- On growing up with a father with an addiction to alcohol: Theron"I only knew him as an alcoholic. It was a pretty hopeless situation. Our family was just kind of stuck in it. And the day to day unpredictability of living with an addict is the thing that you sit with and have kind of embedded in your body for the rest of your life,more than this one event of what happened one night. Of course I wish what happened that night never happened. It's unfortunately what happens when you don't get to the root of these issues".


- Theron spoke of her mother's influence in the past. Theron" I am lucky enough that I have a great mom who really made me brave and always told me to be brave. I don't know who I might have been without that".

A look back at the Folgers "incest" ad from the people who made it



If you aren't familiar with this infamous ad, it first aired 10 years ago as a throwback to the famous "Peter Comes Home for Christmas" Folgers commercial [watch the original]. "Peter Comes Home for Christmas" is a wholesome ad where the older brother sneaks home after being away for a long time and is greeted by his adorable little sister. Folgers tried to recapture that magic in 2009 but aged up the sister...and things didn't come across quite the same way [watch the commercial].

Several people from Saatchi & Saatchi, the ad agency that developed the commercial, as well as the actor who played the brother, Matthew Alan, were recently interviewed about it.

Adam Driver Walks Out of Interview Because He Doesn't Want to Listen/Watch Clips of Himself



He walked out of an NPR interview with Terry Gross of Fresh Air because he did not want to listen to himself singing Sondheim's Being Alive from a clip of Marriage Story. While he was encouraged to just remove his headphones when the clip was played, Driver left during a break when they played the clip.

"We don't really understand why he left. We were looking forward to the interview -- Terry thinks he's a terrific actor, he was a great guest when he was on [the show] in 2015 -- so we were disappointed that we didn't have a new interview to share with our listeners about Marriage Story," said Fresh Air executive producer Danny Miller.

Back in 2015 when he appeared on Fresh Air, Driver joked about why he didn't want to hear himself. "I don't want to hear the bad acting that probably was happening during that clip." And then explained, "I've watched myself or listened to myself before, then always hate it. And then wish I could change it, but you can't. And I think I have, like, a tendency to try to make things better or drive myself and the other people around me crazy with the things I wanted to change or I wish I could change."

In the past, Driver described feeling sick during The Force Awakens and hiding during a screening of BlacKkKlansmen.

ETA because OP can't read: In lieu of the interview, Fresh Air replayed an older interview with Conan O'Brien with this message beforehand. "[We] had promised you an interview with actor Adam Driver today, but unfortunately, we weren't able to do it as planned." Adam Driver didn't cancel on Conan O'Brien.

Plays clip. She’s sick, doesn’t hug the panel. Got it from her 4 yr old, hope she doesn’t give it to her 7 yr old. Whoopi congrats cast for SAG award. Plays clip from CT instagram. CT was in a bathrobe that partially opened. They joke about her almost flashing people. Whoopi wonders if this GG nomination is different than others. CT talks the cast SAG nomination, so many actors willing to come and give their time and be part of this story. Joy mentions how closely she looks like Megyn Kelly, looks-voice-body language. CT talks preparing for the role. Has a husky voice today (sick) but not normally. In getting the voice right, she stressed her vocal chords so badly that she couldn’t speak for 3 weeks. Joy heard CT had reservations playing this role. CT wasn’t sure if she was the right person at first. At first she looked at it as a producer. Then came to see it wasn’t a MK biopic, MK was only part of a larger story. Joy repeats some remarks MK had made about the film. CT says it’s honest, not sure what it must be like for MK to watch herself.

Sunny says Bombshell is the first of the MeToo movement. Sounds like it’s an origin film, but it’s not like a Marvel film /laughs. Talks background about taking down Roger Ailes. Joy liked Bill O’Reilly being taken down. Abby said it was tough for her, those who worked at Fox. Some women still there, who didn’t get pay outs. What about the women still taking bullets. CT didn’t understand Abby’s rambling non question. Nobody is out for anything, only trying to do what’s right. Elaborates what makes these men so dangerous. Complacency is the worst enemy.

Meghan says blah blah. CT says she’s not a conservative but the first thing that became clear was that sexual harassment is nonpartisan. This wasn’t a news story. They tried to keep the timeline accurate but the story was about the treatment, not MK political views. Talks about things she felt she had in common with MK re/professional ambition. Talks more about how speaking out, it can be weaponized against you (females), but not the same for men.

After Myspace flopped in 2008, social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit moved into the mainstream of the internet. These new platforms became the go-to spaces for global online communities.

With the global connection came the spread and sharing of memes. Once the internet figured out what memes were, these videos and images came to represent moments in pop culture as they spread across the internet. Images, short gifs or short video clips, memes became the main way to react on the internet.

Burger King Germany Offers Free Whoppers in Exchange for Being Spoiled for Rise of Skywalker



Do you like free food? Do you like being spoiled? Burger King Germany has been running a promotion where people who are willing to be spoiled/spoil others about the latest Star Wars films will receive free whoppers. In order to get the whopper, one must open the app and read the spoiler out loud in the restaurant. Then they get a coupon after reading it.

Director of marketing Klaus Schmäing said, "We wanted to challenge people's Whopper love and put it to the ultimate test by asking them to choose between their love for our flagship product and their love for the most epic sci-fi movie ever."

As to whether the spoilers they're doling out are real or not: "Whether the spoilers really correspond to [the] truth will ultimately only be revealed once the film is released." The spoilers were taken from German cinema sites and probably reddit.

This promotion is not officially linked with Star Wars since McDonalds holds the account with them.

  • Inuk throat singer/author Tagaq was approached by a white woman in downtown Toronto who tried to intiate a conversation by grabbing her arm

  • She told the woman not to touch her

  • The woman's daughter then followed her into a restaurant and screamed at her

  • Tagaq said that she is frequently harassed and touched by white women

  • Entitlement towards her body is part of the reason she no longer greets fans after performances

  • Tagaq also reiterated what should be common knowledge for social interactions and said that no one should touch her without asking first and people should respect her right to say no

Charlize Theron Says She Was Sexually Harassed by a ‘Very Famous Director’ Early in Her Career



She met the director in question at a house on a Saturday night in 1994 and that he greeted her in “silk pajamas and offered me a drink and rubbed my knee.” She then apologized to the director as a way to excuse herself from the room.

She has named this director in the past, but journalists who she has told have chosen not to print his name.

8 years after the harassment incident, she met with the director again and hoped to confront him about it.
“He just moved on from the conversation, he just didn’t want to address it. At that moment, it was clear to me that it wasn’t his first time and that he had been doing this before and that other women had called him out."

If she named the director now while promoting “Bombshell” it would overshadow the importance of this story but promises that there will be a “right time” for her to name him again.

It's the 30th anniversary of The Simpsons!



While The Simpsons began as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, the first episode of the series aired 30 years ago today on December 17, 1989. It was the Christmas episode "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". James L. Brooks says "It was our birth, as far as I'm concerned." It now holds the record for the most episodes of a scripted prime time show. While the show is past peak cultural dominance and many fans prefer the early seasons to the seasons now, the show is still doing well and is renewed through 2021.

Male Awards-Season Voters Are Not Watching Little Women

Little Women is one of the best reviewed movies of the years, but it did score rather few nominations at the Golden Globes, SAGs, and local critic groups.

ONTD icon, and Little Women producer, Amy Pascal thinks male voters are simply not watching the movie:

”I don’t think that [men] came to the screenings in droves, let me put it that way. And I’m not sure when they got their [screener] DVDs that they watched them.”
“[Voters think], These kinds of stories are important to me, and these kinds of stories are less important to me.”

Tracy Letts, who plays Jo's publisher:

“I just don’t understand it. I’m really flummoxed by it. I mean, I’d like to think that there are a lot of other factors for why somebody maybe doesn’t want to tune in, because they…I don’t know, that they’ve seen too many versions of Little Women, it looks too light or too Christmas-y? I don’t know what the hell it is. But please tell me it’s not because it’s a movie about women.

“I just can’t believe we’re still having this fucking discussion where movies by men, and about men, and for men are considered default movies. And women’s movies fall into this separate and unequal category. It’s absurd.”
