Steve Harvey Under Criticism After Hosting Miss Universe

He announced the wrong name once again while talking about the winner for Best National Costume.
He called Miss Philippines and showed her picture but the winner was Miss Malaysia who was already told to go stand next to the host. He quickly blamed it on the teleprompter.
"Let me explain something to you. I just read that in the teleprompter. Ya'll got to quit doing this to me. I can read. Now, they are trying to fix it now. See? This is what they did to me back in 2015 – played me short like that. This is Malaysia."

While talking to Miss Colombia, Harvey made a joke about the cartel.
"You've forgiven me [but] the cartel has not. They're not handling it the same way."
Miss Colombia later said: “I’m a lawyer and have fighting violence in my country.”

Premiere: Lizzo - “Good As Hell” (Music Video)

Not to be confused with the 2016 version of the music video. Lizzo and her label released a new video, obviously to help boost streams and nab that second no. 1 single.

In other related news, the “Truth Hurts” singer is currently causing a ruckus on social media due to her revealing outfit at last night’s Lakers game.

Camila Cabello and team accused of ripping off Caroline Polachek, Halsey and more for 'Romance'

Camila Cabello released her sophomore album Romance on Friday, and unfortunately the [Johnny Rose voice] rollout hasn't gone as smoothly as she likely envisioned. Reviews of the album have been mixed, with many criticizing its producers' heavy reliance on Auto-Tune "not as a special effect but as a kind of cure-all lotion slathered over every syllable that passes Cabello's lips... a cyborg sheen on what are ostensibly heartfelt songs of burgeoning new love."

Now, it appears that Cabello and her team are under fire from multiple sides as stan Twitter accuses them of ripping off other artists for both the album's music and visuals.

Truth be told, these accusations began prior to the album's release. The Internet immediately drew comparisons between Cabello's "Cry for Me" and the music of MARINA after the former was performed on Saturday Night Live, and the performance's Marie Antoinette-inspired costuming had Madonna fans crying foul. But through multiple Twitter threads, it becomes clear the aping doesn't stop there. Below, all of the artists from whom Cabello and co. may or may not have drawn inspiration.

So far, the only artist to comment has been Polachek. In response to a side-by-side comparison of the album artwork for Romance and her own album Pang, she wrote, "Images don't matter... just context and integrity (which creative directors don't have the time or focus to steal). This similarity isn't on the label or popstar [sic], it's a symptom of the normalization of outsourced worldbuilding [sic]."

The big snubs from the 2020 Golden Globes nods, including De Niro, Sandra Oh, Lupita Nyong’o, more

The 2020 Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning and as always the randomness of the HFPA snubbed quite a few people who have won/been nominated in film/TV. Here are a few.

-- Robert De Niro, “The Irishman” - was definitely expected to get a best actor - drama nod for the movie that got a million other nominations (including two in supporting actor) but Bob went amiss
-- Sandra Oh, “Killing Eve” - she literally won best actress - drama last year but got snubbed this year... so...
-- Adam Sandler, “Uncut Gems” - Adam's been getting nominations left and right for this so far, so the snub is rather surprising (as is the mass amounts of nods for 'The Two Popes')
-- Greta Gerwig, “Little Women” - she was getting recognition for best director AND screenplay this season so far but got snubbed in both (though since the Oscars splits original and adapted she should def get one there). As usual, best director is a sausage fest.
-- Lupita Nyong’o, “Us” - she's been nominated and won for this performance at some of the smaller rounds so far, so the snub is... surprising.

Variety also put 'Cats' as a snub which was fucking hilarious. Yeah right.

Theater Roundup: 'Beetlejuice' Evicted, 'Betrayal' Closes, 'Cyrano' Opens & more

Beetlejuice premiered on Broadway last fall, and though it got off to a shaky start, the box office has really picked up over the past few months.

Unfortunately, the theater that houses the show, the Winter Garden, has elected to kick them out as of June 6th for an even more profitable tenant - The Music Man, from prolific producer Scott Rudin and starring box office draw Hugh Jackman, which begins its run in the fall.

Despite the fact that Beetlejuice just set a record for the theater over the Thanksgiving holiday, the show's grosses dipped low enough to invoke a stop clause - the theater's right to kick them out - last May, and that is what they are using as justification to evict the show. Since then, the grosses have increased, with lots of first time Broadway visitors falling for the show.

Warner Brothers has attempted to try to find a compromise, but Scott Rudin isn't interested in taking The Music Man to a different theater. However, Beetlejuice is still searching for a new theater, and has announced a national tour beginning in fall 2021. Check under the cuts for more theater news.

John Boyega covers HYPEBEAST

Interview topics include:
- Says The Last Jedi was 'a bit iffy' in terms of character development for Finn. He didn't really agree with all the choices made in the film and spoke to co-star Mark Hamill a lot about it.
- Thinks Finn is at his best when paired with Rey or Poe, but that he feels we don't know the new trio and their dynamics as much as the original.
- Has to remind himself that vocal fans online do not necessarily represent the fanbase as a whole.
- Believes that Star Wars is basically about friendship and family despite its setting.
- Looking forward to doing more 'grounded' movies.
- He wants to show his range as an actor and may look toward a villain role to do so.
- Looks up to directors like Jordan Peele in 'recontextualizing traditional stories through the lens of different cultural backgrounds.'
- He thinks leads should look normal. Most people in life do not have time to work out to the degree where they are ripped and this should be reflected: 'It's about rebranding the way in which we are fed a false narrative of perfection'
- The Cloned Tyrone, which he is set to star in on Netflix, represents the idea that stories can be happening everywhere - not just in white suburbs.
- Believes audiences are getting bored of formulaic films which tell the stories of the same kinds of people.
- 'we've had over 100 years of the same culture.'

The View: Samantha Rodriguez and Family, Hot Topics

Full panel

I don’t know if this aired in all time zones due to House Impeachment Hearing. These are written from the clips uploaded to The View channel.

The Rodriguez Family talk about their family. I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭

Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
First part is a taped segment that covers the background of the family. Mom was diagnosed with cancer and died in 2013. Father was diagnosed with lymphoma and died in 2016. The kids thought they’d be split up after their dad was gone. The oldest sister at age 17 decided she would be the parent to the other siblings. She had to quit school and get a full time job. They make ends meet based on death benefits from both parents and her own job. The older blonde woman is their grandmother.

In the studio
Samantha, Destiny, Bella, Michael, Brenda, Milagros, and their grandmother Lourdes [I think I got the names correct]
Whoopi asked where did she find the strength that she could do this, of course she wanted to, but could she. Samantha says she got it from her mom, her strength, her admiration for her mom. Whoopi says they could’ve gotten help from the welfare system or other social programs, but they chose not to. Samantha said when all those things get involved, it takes out the family as a whole. But doing it their way, they can say they did all this together, not everyone can know what they went through losing their parents. Sunny wondered what life lessons did their parents instill in Samantha that she wanted to pass on. Samantha says they showed her strength and love, not to take anything for granted, the material things don’t matter, what’s been given can be taken away so fast. What really matters if family and love and support. Sunny talks to Lourdes, she’s the mother of their dad. She’s 76 yrs old and she relies on Samantha to run the household. Lourdes doesn’t speak English, so Sunny then talks to her in Spanish. Wonders where Samantha got this strength from. Lourdes says Samantha got it from her mom. Samantha had to drop out of high school but went back a few times, eventually getting her diploma. She’s enrolled as a student now and working part time. Samantha talks about how important education is. She wanted to make it a priority to be a good role model for the other kids. Felt she had to set that example. In the audience, Heather @ Toyota heard her story, they felt compelled to help. Commends her for her courage and tenacity. Samantha is continuing her education at the University of Central Florida after finishing at Valencia College. Toyota gives her a $15K scholarship towards her education. But wait, there’s more! Toyota also gives them a brand new minivan Toyota Sienna. Abby is the car model. [Second video] Disney filled their van full of Disney toys for Christmas.

This was very uplifting 🙂❤️

Liam Payne thinks One Direction will reunite in two years

Liam Payne still thinks a One Direction reunion is going to happen.

The “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah” singer told Channel 4 show Sunday Brunch: “I think at some point we will get back together. I think we will, for sure. I don’t know when that is yet but, all I know is there is at least two years while everyone’s just released new music where you have to go and promo and do all of that.”

“There are at least two years,” he emphasized.

Lime also mentioned that he just saw Styles for the first time in years at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball over the weekend.

“I actually saw him for the first time in three years yesterday. We hadn’t seen each other in a long, long time. It was really nice, he’s still the same boy as when I left him, really sweet ... he’s such a lovely lad,” he said.

Atlanta Newspaper demands retraction on Richard Jewell’s portrayal of journalist

The new film by Clint Eastwood tells the story of Richard Jewell, a security guard who came under suspicion for orchestrating the Centennial Olympic Park bombing before being exonerated.

While trying to set the story straight on Jewell, the movie doesn’t seem to mind making up facts about other people, like suggesting reporter Kathy Scruggs (who passed away in 2001 at the age of 42) slept with sources in exchange for information;

The Atlanta Newspaper Kathy worked for, is currently demanding that a disclaimer be added to the film, acknowledging it took dramatic license when it portrayed journalist Kathy Scruggs as trading sex for tips.

Kevin G. Riley, current editor of the Journal-Constitution newspaper claims ”(the film) trades in harmful stereotypes about female journalists, such as those seen in movies like “Absence of Malice” and “Thank You for Smoking” that have depicted female reporters sleeping with sources (...) The film literally makes things up and adds to misunderstandings about how serious news organizations work,” said Riley. “It’s ironic that the film commits the same sins that it accuses the media of committing.”

...Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde (who plays Kathy in the film), offers this gem as a defense of the film’s choices: “I think it’s a shame that she has been reduced to one inferred moment in the film,” Wilde told Variety‘s Marc Malkin on the 2019 Gotham Awards red carpet. “It’s a basic misunderstanding of feminism as pious, sexlessness. It happens a lot to women; we’re expected to be one-dimensional if we are to be considered feminists. There’s a complexity to Kathy, as there is to all of us, and I really admired her.

Remember When Adrien Brody Bought a Castle for Elsa Pataky? Pajiba Remembers

Kayleigh Donaldson with Pajiba takes a trip down memory lane and recalls a minor celebrity love story from early 00's. In 2006, when Adrian Brody was the youngest man to ever win an Oscar, he dated Spanish actress Elsa Pataky. In 2007, to celebrate her 31st birthday, Brody bought her a castle in upstate New York.

In addition to buying her castle, Brody and Pataky were featured in a cheesy 35 page spread in Hello! magazine. Yes, 35 whole pages devoted to their love.

That wasn't the only feature the couple did together. In January 2009, they did an another spread in Hello! Canada. This one was worse.

Collapse )

The couple broke up in 2009. Brody kept the castle and made a documentary about renovating the castle.

Collapse )

In 2010, Elsa met and later married Chris Hemsworth. She was able to trade in a castle for an Ikea. Adrien is rumored to be dating Georgina Chapman, fashion designer and owner of Marchesa.
