Ian Somerhalder says he lost his virginity at 13, spied on his brother with girls through the window

Ian Somerhalder, 40, spoke a little too openly while visiting SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. When asked, the “It’s My Day!” actor shared that he lost his virginity when he was a teenage model at 13 to a girl who was 16, adding, “It was fun.”

Somerhalder continues by saying that he learned about dating through his older brother. “He taught me a lot, and he was quite a Casanova,” he added. He then admitted that he also learned...uh other things by spying on his brother through his window.

“He used to have girls in his bedroom all the time and what I did was, I went into the bottom corner of his window and I pinched the Venetian blinds. I pinched the blinds down so I’d have a clear view,” Somerhalder explained.

He continued, “When he had girls over — by the way, Louisiana gets cold in the wintertime, it’s freezing — I would go outside, put on all my stuff; my mom thought I was going out to play with the dog. I grabbed my hot chocolate, put on all my clothes, my mittens and stuff, and would watch, and I learned a lot!”

You can listen to the entire exchange about this in the clip above. Or don’t.

Taylor Swift: Women are "more than incubators" + new Christmas single dropping tonight

In her interview with People, Taylor swift talks about not stressing about her body anymore and women being able to express discomfort in awkward social situations.

“There are certain parts of my brain that I don’t visit as often, like stressing out about my body, stressing out about being on trend...You have to toss out things that don’t serve you. That’s what I think we all try to do when we’re getting older, and you just hope that you’re getting wiser too!”

“The more women are able to voice their discomfort in social situations, the more it becomes the social norm that people who ask the questions at parties like ‘When are you going to start a family?’ to someone as soon as they turn 25 are a little bit rude. It’s gonna take a bit for people to catch up with that... we’re allowed to say, ‘Hey, just so you know, we’re more than incubators. You don’t have to ask that of someone just because they’re in their mid-20s and they’re a female.”

And tonight Taylor is releasing a new Christmas single called Christmas Tree Farm.

Indie Film Release Guide: December 6th [An ONTD Original]

ONTD Indie Release Guide Graphic.png

There are zero big studio releases this week. Even the widest of the new releases, Playmobil: The Movie, hails from STX Entertainment, the same studio that brought us Hustlers. But at least that gives you a chance to catch up on the plethora of recent releases, before a spate of new offerings appears next week.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have just opened near you: November 27th, November 22nd, and November 15th.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Stars: Noémie Merlant, Adèle Haenel, Luàna Bajrami, Valeria Golino
Writer/Director: Céline Sciamma
Genre: Drama, Romance
Plot: On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman.
What you should know: It’s in French.
Opens in: Some disappointing news. :( Since Neon has its hands full promoting Parasite, and France picked a different film for its Best International Film entry for the Oscars, Neon has pushed back the full release of this film until Valentine’s Day 2020. But this is its qualifying week-long run for awards eligibility, so if you live in NYC or LA and are dying to see it, go this week! And don't you worry, if ONTD is still around on Valentine's next year, I'll put it in that roundup, too. Because I make the rules.

TikTok Admits It Suppressed Videos by Disabled, Queer, and Fat Creators

-Tiktok admitted Tuesday to suppressing content by users assumed to be "vulnerable to cyberbullying" in an effort to prevent cyberbullying.
-The policy listed “Disabled people or people with some facial problems such as birthmark, slight squint and etc.” as being potentially vulnerable to bullying or harassment.
-Moderators would watch clips, and decide if the person in them looked like someone other people might want to bully. Users who fit this description would be flagged, and their videos would not appear outside of their country. In some cases their videos would not appear in other users' feeds.
-A list of flagged users included disabled, overweight, and LGBT people.
-Tiktok says the policies are no longer in place.
-The policy was last in place September of this year.

Oscars sound categories may be merged

Don't know the difference between sound editing and sound mixing?? Well pretty soon you might not have to worry about that.

A subcommitee of the Academy's sound branch is strongly favoring a shakeup that would merge both the editing and mixing category into one. The governors of said branch emailed members to state that the lines that seperated their responsibilites to the overall soundtrack have been blurring and that there has been a substantial overlap between between nominees and winners in both categories (Over the past 13 years, 8 films have gone on to win both categories).

While sound branch members are the only ones who pick the nominees, the entire Academy takes part in picking a winner, with many members having no idea between the two.

If the change goes into effect, it won't happen until next year. Winners will include up to 2 supervising sound editors, a production sound mixer, and up to 3 re-recording mixers.

Billy Dee Williams: ‘What the hell is gender fluid?’

In an Esquire interview, Billy Dee Williams said, “And you see, I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”

After the interview, Media outlets reported that he is gender fluid.

In a new interview with The Undefeated, he says that his initial comments were misunderstood. He says that he Did Not Know What Gender Fluid is:

"What I was talking about was about men getting in touch with their softer side of themselves," he explained. "There's a phrase that was coined by Carl G. Jung ... that's 'Anima animus.' And anima means that is the female counterpart of the male self and the animus is the male counterpart of the female."

"So that's what I was referring to," he said. "I was talking about men getting in touch with the female side of themselves. I wasn't talking about sex, I wasn't talking about gay or straight."

He went on to conclude, "I'm not gay -- by any stretch of the imagination. Not that I have anything against gay people. But personally? Not gay."

The View: Josh Groban, Michael Eric Dyson, Brandon Maxwell, Impeachapalooza, Hot Topics

Surprise! The House Judiciary Impeachment hearings were on yesterday in my time zone, so I didn’t know a show aired until I looked for the clips for today.

Wednesday Michael Eric Dyson

Michael Eric Dyson is promoting his book Jay Z Made in America

Two more clips and summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]

Joy asks about Kamala dropping out. MED says she’s talented and the panel have talked about various issues, but feels she was judged in a different way. MED thinks the media and critics in the party were hard on her. Kamala and Cory have had a hard time /with black voters/ (in his opinion) due to delayed reaction to Obama who they loved as a person but are thinking about his legacy. Joy asks why is Biden so popular. MED says Uncle Joe hung out with the black guy for 8 yrs, and he had engagement with black people long before Obama, tells story about WH parties vs Biden parties. And he feels Biden has been on the front lines for a long time, trying to do what he thought was best, a white person grappling with race in America.

Meghan brings up Mayor Pete, his issues with black voters. MED thinks there’s always the chase for the phantom white voter who may return. He doesn’t want to dismiss white people, but stay with the one who brought you. Black women are doing the right thing. Maybe Mayor Pete could overcome his issues, talks about him calling The Roots reporter who dragged him. More observations of Mayor Pete. MED talks about other candidates, Castro and Warren. Goes back to Mayor Pete and homophobia, elaborates. Connects linkage to slavery days and hypersensitive to anything else that brings more scrutiny. MED doesn’t want an oppression derby. Every marginalized community has its demerits and we need to find common ground.

Abby moves to his book. MED explains its premise. A lot of good families started in criminality but they changed over time, worked hard, had ingenuity. Gives example. MED was at Sunny’s 50th birthday party. However… they talk about Colin Kaepernick. Sunny gives her position, but wants MED to explain how he’s supportive of Jay Z NFL while still supporting Colin. MED covers his positions. Feels you have to stay outside to protest, but go inside to help transform change. More debate about Colin’s NFL tryout a few weeks back. Tells a lot of mixed metaphors to explain further what he would’ve done if he were Colin in that situation. Sunny still goes in on Jay Z re/NFL.

Thursday Josh Groban is promoting his new residency at Radio City Music Hall

One more clip and summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]

Plays clip. They talk about his salt n pepper beard. Abby thinks he’s funny in addition to being a great singer. JG talks about his evolution as a singer. Learned at a young age he could carry a tune. Liked 90s grunge rock but his voice didn’t sound right with those types of songs. Joy also heard he was a conspiracy theorist. JG says that stemmed from him being an X-Files fan, and getting AOL disks in the mail. He was a child, wrote the government, they played along and wrote him back. Whoopi met him when David Foster took JG on, he was 16 yrs old at the time. People thought he was professional and poised when he was starting out, but JG said he was terrified and nervous. Only in the last several years has he gotten that under control.

JG talks about his residency Great Big Radio City Show at Radio City Music Hall. He’s going to sing his own songs, do what he wants, but also do duets. Sunny talks about him revealing his struggles with anxiety. JG elaborates. Abby asks what advice he would give to new 16 yrs olds coming along like he did. JG says slow down, don’t take it so serious, be kind to yourself.

Pantone has unveiled its color for 2020 🔵🧿

Described as “honest,” the brand writes in its announcement. It’s “imprinted in our psyches as a restful color,” and “suggestive of the sky at dusk.” More specifically, that translates to PANTONE 19-4052, or Classic Blue. This is a shade that offers calm and refuge at a time when chaos seems surrounding. In other words, it’s ideal to have in a home.

Reminiscing Marrakech or Miami, the seigaiha (青海波) traditional, Japanese wave pattern or the Talavera pottery from the Mexican state of Puebla. They might skew a bit more royal, or robin’s egg, but as the old saying goes, a rising Classic Blue tide lifts all blueish boats.

Author R.L. Stine comments on our possible potato and french fry shortage

Do you want fries with that? Not so fast. That might not even be an option if our potato crops continue to suffer. But why? Well, you can blame the earlier than expected cold and wet weather for damaging major crops in the US and Canada. Oh, and a likely link to climate change.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts domestic output will drop 6.1% this year to the lowest since 2010. In Idaho — the top producer — output is expected to drop 5.5%.

Another part of the problem is the crop damage means potatoes are also coming in smaller than usual. French-fry makers and chefs typically prefer longer spuds.

“French fry demand has just been outstanding lately, and so supplies can’t meet the demand,” said Travis Blacker, industry-relations director with the Idaho Potato Commission.

Anna Faris Says One Of Her Exes Cheated On Her And Called Her "Crazy"

Anna Faris is sharing her experience of being cheated on, and how inherent gender norms prevented her from trusting her intuition. She had a nagging feeling a past partner was being unfaithful to her.

“I woke him up in the middle of the night and was like, ‘Are you fucking so-and-so?’ and he was like, ‘You’re crazy,’”

“I’m pretty oblivious sometimes, you know — especially in relationships, of course I don’t want to believe that anything [is wrong] … but there was that gut feeling that was starting to grow more and more,”

She decided to ignore her inklings of infidelity and began to think, “Maybe he’s right. Maybe I am crazy.”

Faris learned years later through friends, that her suspicions were valid and her past partner was indeed cheating on her.

“Not to be too gender-specific. I do think as women we’re sort of taught to suppress fear or suspicion because we might be deemed as suspicious or neurotic or crazy.”
