On the latest episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols
, the season drastically nosedived as Kellee Kim was once again vocal about unwanted touching from Dan Spilo. Spilo had previously been cited as uncomfortably touching and invading the personal space of several female contestants on the show, such as Kim, Elizabeth Beisel and Missy Byrd. Following this, Spilo was issued a warning by the producers, but allowed to remain in the game.
Further controversy arose as Byrd and especially Beisel discussed exaggerating their responses towards Spilo as a way of getting closer to Kim, so much so that another contestant, Janet Carbin (the self proclaimed mom of the group) was upset that the women felt encroached upon by Spilo, and vowed to turn against him despite them being allies. However, when Kim briefly floated the idea of voting out Byrd because she didn't want the incidents to derail her game, Byrd and Beisel's allies Tommy Sheehan (whose first reaction to Kim talking to Byrd and Beisel was to target her) and Lauren Beck instigated a vote flip against Kim instead, with Beisel later adding that Kim was a snake and insinuating that she was lying about her feelings.
The first hour of the episode ended with Kim being voted out over Spilo 8-5.
Carbin was later vocally upset and gaslit into apologising to everybody by Byrd and and Beisel after they threw her under the bus to Spilo, almost threatening to quit the game in the process. Host Jeff Probst also pointedly questioned Spilo about his behaviour at the next Tribal Council (since as Probst put in interviews, the Tribal council is where players are held accountable for their actions), and the following exchange ocurred.
Spilo: “Is the bottom line, we’re not going to let this go?”
Probst: “Dan, you’re right. I will never let it go.”
Jamal Shipman, who interjected in defense of Carbin and Kim when another contestant Aaron Meredith attempted to mansplain the situation, was voted out during the second hour 6-3-0.
