Nicki Minaj goes on homophobic tirade, threatens DJ Akademiks' life

Nicki Minaj may have retired from music, but she hasn't retired from being petty.

The rapper went on a tirade against DJ Akademiks, supposedly because he defended Cardi B on his show. Revealing threatening DMs he received from Minaj on Instagram, he tweeted "Nicki Minaj just put a hit on me... if anything happens... or I miss a meal... SHE DID IT."

In the messages, Minaj accuses Akademiks of being gay and trying to hit on her friend and jailed child rapist, Tekashi 6ix9ine. In other messages, she threatens to break his jaw, and repeatedly asks him for an address so her murderer/rapist husband can pull up on him.

Video of him discussing the threatening DMs:

Is A $12 Pint Of Ice Cream Worth The Money?

It seems like pricy artisanal ice cream is everywhere these days. Once limited to brands like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs, the premium ice cream freezer at the grocery store is crowded with ice cream that's handmade and includes top dollar ingredients. While brands like Halo Top, Ample Hills, and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams are for sale in a larger number of stores, the price can result in sticker shock. A pint of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream retails for $12 a pint. Here's why pints have sky-rocked in price.

ONTD, what is the most you’d spend on a pint of ice cream?

The View: Malcolm Gladwell, Bahamas, Hot Topics

Malcolm Gladwell

This was a poorly produced segment. What is the book about; the anecdotes don’t clearly connect the dots to the book’s premise. Is he rehashing concluded events, is he proposing a paradigm shift in how people think, feel, behave? Mess.

Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
Malcolm Gladwell is a Canadian journalist, author, and public speaker. He has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1996. He has published five books: The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference; Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking (2005); Outliers: The Story of Success; What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures, a collection of his journalism; and David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants.

He has a new book out Talking to Strangers.

Recounts the event where Sandra Bland was stopped for essentially nothing (not using turn signal), the officer asks her to step out of car, she eventually dies by suicide a few days later. He doesn’t mention ~race in his book but feels race definitely plays a part in his observations. He thinks when race is the first thing talked about, it stalls the conversation and doesn’t allow for more sophisticated dialogue to change things. [Idk what his angle is.]

Abby mentions the book talks about how people read others. He brings up Amanda Knox, how people think that other people’s emotions are always expressed accurately in their facial expressions. Watching tv (uses Friends as example) has convinced us that emotions always match facial expression, when reality is not like that. He says we jump to conclusions because the facial expressions and body language don’t always match what we expect as acceptable reactions. Some more on Knox event. Joy goes to Tr/mp, so far 12K lies. Why are there people who still believe the lies. He was proud to have written a book with no mention of Tr/mp. Meghan points out only 3 in 10 people know their neighbors. He starts to talk about cultural shift of hanging with friends and neighbors (presume he would lead to isolation and loneliness shaping our perceptions differently) but Whoopi has to end the segment in mid-sentence, bloop.

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Marc Cherry Confirms One Star Had ‘Behavioural Problems’

update to this post

Show creatoer Marc Cherry also wrote a letter of support for Felicity Huffman, recalling probelms with an unnamed cast member:

"We had a problematic cast member on my show. She was a big star with some big behavioral problems. Everyone tried their darnedest to get along with this woman over the course of the show. It was impossible. And things went from bad to worse."

"At some point during season seven this woman decided she would no longer speak to her fellow cast members. She would only communicate with the directors who were then forced to pass on her throughs to her co-stars. This was alternately maddening and hilarious."

“Felicity still insisted on saying, ‘Good morning’ to this actress, even though she knew she wouldn’t get a response. I found out about this and asked Felicity about it. She smiled and said, ‘Just because that woman’s determined to be rude, doesn’t mean she can keep me from being polite.'”

(Nicollette Sheridan was long gone by season seven, so....)

and Huffman's kindness towards an elderly guest star:

“It moved me to tears — this formerly great performer was struggling with practically every word. But Felicity Huffman was right next to her, treating her with so much kindness… Felicity remained patient, supportive and helped this old woman through the day, turning what could have been a very tense situation into a master class on human compassion.”

Gwyneth Paltrow was "determined" to bring Harvey Weinstein down

Gwyneth Paltrow played a pivotal role in bringing down Harvey Weinstein, according to the New York Times reporters who broke the story.

Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor revealed on the Today Show that the actress was one of the first high-profile actresses to reach out to them, "I think that many people will be surprised to discover that when so many other actresses were reluctant to get on the phone and scared to tell the truth about what they had experienced at his hands, that Gwyneth was actually one of the first people to get on the phone and that she was determined to help this investigation."

Megan Twohey even recalled a time when Weinstein showed up to a party at Paltrow’s house in the Hamptons, causing her to “hide in the bathroom” in fear and call them.

The journalists discuss Gwyneth's heavy involvement in their new book, “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement.”

Tracee Ellis Ross covers " Essence" magazine

-Tracee Ellis Ross speaks to " Essence" on her career and new hair care line.

- Tracee on this being her fourth cover. Ross " I remember the first time I was on "Essence" , I was on with my mom . I thought , okay, dreams are real , and they can happen. Still, as Diana Ross's child, you wonder whether you will become anything in your own right. So it was a really big moment from being on the cover with my mom to having my own cover. Now I've had three on my own and one with my mom. I feel a little humbled by that, knowing I truly filled my own shoes- and maybe even had to buy a couple of new pairs at times. There are people who have no idea my worth is not based on my mom or what I look like. There's a wholeness to me I cherish".

- Ross on if she ever wanted to give up acting. Ross" There were moments of that. I really thought when " Girlfriends" finished that the pearly Gates of Hollywood were going to open , and they were going to be like," What movie would you like, ma'am? Please , choose whatever. That did not happen. It forced my soul to continue to search for what it longed for, dreamed of, wanted to be. It allowed me to continue to grow as a person and realize I was deserving and worthy. I could own my success, but also own what might look like failure. I could literally be my own best friend and mirror, knowing that my worth is not tangled up in what I think I should be getting".

- Ross on her new hair care line Pattern. Ross" Ten years ago, when "Girlfriends" ended , I wrote a pitch for a line of hair care products. It has been 30 years in the trenches of my hair. Twenty years of dreaming. Ten years of trying, strategizing and asking. Five years of continuing to learn. Four years with chemists, and 74 samples later , were here. I am launching a haircare line for curly ,coily and tight, textured hair to empower people and meet the unmet needs of our community at a price point we can afford, because we know we need a lot of product in all this hair". It's called "Pattern" because it is about the magical patterns of our hair. The product line includes four different conditioners, two nourishing oil serums and a few key accessories.

- Ross on her on hair journey. Ross" It dates back to high school, when I would wake up, and before I would put on my glasses, I would call to check the weather. If it was anything over 67 percent humidity, I would not was my hair. I stopped relaxing my hair the summer before tenth grade. I ran track, and found that putting heat on my hair was too difficult. But I couldn't figure out how to wear it. I tried every product under the sun. Then, about 20 years ago, I went into a salon and a guy was like," Oh My God" Do you know how many people come in here with a magazine picture of your hair and tell me that's what they want? I tell them I'm going to have to sew it in." And I was like, "No,no,no. It's not about sewing it in- it's about having the right products." We have to have the right products to nourish, hydrate, moisturize and soothe our hair. With the right products and tools our hair can do anything. That's when I stated to think about the idea of creating my own product line.

- On when she learned black was beautiful. Ross" It took me longer than I wish it had. I'd catch glimpses of people who saw beauty in ways I had missed because of the blinders society gave me. Then one day I was watching a Nina Simone documentary and I thought: Wait. It should be her name next to the word "beauty". Why was I sold this wrong vision? My heart knows that's beauty".

Hasbro is addressing part of the gender pay gap with Ms. Monopoly Board Game

I say 'part' because let's be real, it's probably not going to acknowledge the difference in race. But still:

  • Who wants to invest in a railway system in 2019? Instead, invest in rideshares and Wi-Fi (bye, water works!)

  • Women will be paid more than men.

  • Senior director of global brand strategy Jen Boswinkel says “It’s giving the topic some relevancy to everyone playing it that everybody gets a turn, and this time women get an advantage at the start.”

  • Ms. Monopoly will be avaliable later this month for 20$ USD.

Should kids still believe in Santa Claus? "GMA3: Strahan ,Sara& KeKe"

-After asking for the children to leave the room to talk about "Christmas" , the co host commented on a recent article.

- Gabrielle Union told a story to " O" magazine about how she wanted to go about Christmas with the kids. Gabrielle" I'LL say to my husband ,Let's tell the kids their Christmas gifts are from Santa, and my husband is like there's no way in hell I'm letting these kids think that an old white man is sneaking into our house and doing anything for them". Wade did not grow up believing in Santa.

- Sara says her kids are to little to understand anything yet(3,1,3 months) She says while her siblings caught on earlier she believed until she was about 14. Sara" I think there is something so beautiful about holding on to the spirit of life. There are so many things you have to believe in that you don't see, and to hold on to that and honor that is important. But I also see my husband is more of a realist and a bit cynical at times, so I don't know how Christmas is going to play out in our house".

-Keke tells a story of when she was 5 and told a cousin about what santa had bought her, and her cousin said "Santa's not real!" Keke says her father told her that she mumbled to herself " She's just mad that Santa didn't come to her house". Keke said she believed until she couldn't anymore, which Michael agreed with.

Ontd: Did you grow up believing in Santa Claus ? Should future kids be told the truth or the fantasy
