Aladdin has finally vanquished Disney's memorial day weekend with a welcome $112M 4-day opening, which is way above industry pre-weekend estimates of $75M. Disney previously has had a bunch of flops on this weekend like Solo: A Star Wars Story, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Tomorrowland and Prince of Persia.
Despite the mixed critics reviews, giving it a borderline "rotten" score at 58%, audiences seemed to love the movie, giving it 94% "verified" audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A CinemaScore, which helped propel it to such heights.
In other news, smaller newcomers Brightburn and Booksmart underperformed with their less than $10M openings.
