One of the confirmed spin-offs is a prequel set during the mythical Age of Heroes, which spanned thousands of years.
It will star Naomi Watts, Jamie Campbell Bower, Georgie Henley, Toby Regbo, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, and more. The author speculates that Naomi Watts is playing a Lannister ancestor, maybe even Lann the Clever.
The Age of Heroes is when ancient family lineages developed, war with the Children of the Forest begun, and the first Long Night took place.
Possible plot points include the shattering of the Arm of Dorne, discovery of Pyke in the Iron Islands, war between the First Men and the Children of the Forest, creation of the Night King, and the creation or taming of dragons using blood magic. We could see Bran the Builder, Durran Godsgrief, Lann the Clever, and Garth Greenhand.
Bran the Builder was the legendary founder of House Stark who built the Wall and Winterfell with the help of giants. Garth Greenhand founded the houses from The Reach including House Tyrell. Durran Godsgrief built Storm's End and founded House Baratheon.
Wanda Sykes takes on the opioid crisis, and delivers a sharp-witted and hilarious critique on the state of the world in her first Netflix comedy special. Not Normal streams May 21, only on Netflix.
Hadestown is a new musical that just opened on Broadway, based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It was written by musician and songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, directed by Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812), and it is the only new show on Broadway this season written and directed by women. It stars a diverse cast of performers, from Les Mis breakout Eva Noblezada, to former Penny Dreadful star Reeve Carney, to theater legend André De Shields. It has gone from a 2010 concept album to an off-Broadway show (recorded for posterity and available on Spotify!) to its current incarnation, with a Broadway cast recording coming next month.
The cast performed "The Road to Hell" on Live with Kelly and Ryan, as seen above, and "Livin' It Up on Top" on the Today Show, which can be seen under the cut. They've also posed for photoshoots, taken interviews, and are making bank at the box office. Click the cut for more Hadestown-centric content, including pics of a tall, muscled chorus member that literally made me think of ONTD.
I absolutely love this show and cannot wait to see it again. I'd highly recommend entering the lottery if you live in NYC! Have you seen any shows lately, ONTD?
For seventeen-year-old Opal Hopper, code is magic. She builds entire worlds from scratch: Mars craters, shimmering lakes, any virtual experience her heart desires.
But she can't code her dad back into her life. When he disappeared after her tenth birthday, leaving only a cryptic note, Opal tried desperately to find him. And when he never turned up, she enrolled at a boarding school for technical prodigies and tried to forget.
Until now. Because WAVE, the world's biggest virtual reality platform, has announced a contest where the winner gets to meet its billionaire founder. The same billionaire who worked closely with Opal's dad. The one she always believed might know where he went. The one who maybe even murdered him.
What begins as a small data hack to win the contest spirals out of control when Opal goes viral, digging her deeper into a hole of lies, hacks, and manipulation. How far will Opal go for the answers--or is it the attention--she's wanted for years?
Denise Richards is the newest addition to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and she wasted no time revealing intimate details about her sex life to the other wives in front of her husband. Whoopi seems horrified. Joy says it's bragging. Sunny thinks it's uncomfortable when her friends discuss their sex life in front of her. Meghan was shocked that former co-hosts Paula Faris and Sarah Haines talked about their sex life on air. She thinks it's trashy.
Ascena Retail Group said late Monday it would wind down its women's budget clothing chain, Dressbarn, shutting about 650 stores in the United States, as it sharpens its focus on profitable brands.
The company, which also houses fashion brands Ann Taylor and Lou & Grey, said the move would strengthen its overall financial performance.
"This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today's retail environment," Dressbarn Chief Financial Officer Steven Taylor said.
Dressbarn, a household name for over 50 years, has struggled to grow sales in a competitive market where it battles with online retailers like Amazon and off-price retailers like T.J. Maxx.
Ascena's shares, which have more than halved this year, were up about 3 percent in extended trading.

Everyone's favorite film youtuber Lindsay Ellis explores how Disney's Aladdin changed animated films by getting recognizable talent in voice acting roles as a box office draw and how Disney lied to Robin Williams and used him as a marketing tool to start this trend.
The finale of 'Game of Thrones' was last night and more than 19 million Americans gathered around their televisions for it. Unfortunately, a good deal of the focus today was not on how great the show was, but a dumb little mistake you'd have to be a jewelry repairman to notice. A lot of fans were upset with the ending, because no one is ever happy. Regardless of what you thought of the final episode, this was one of the best shows of all time. Even Donald Trump chimed in on the finale.
He should have gotten someone from the show for this, preferably Emilia Clarke.
Bryan Cogman, a writer and co-executive producer on Game of Thrones, has joined Amazon's Lord of the Rings series as a consultant.
He started on Game of Thrones as an assistant to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of Westeros. The last episode he wrote was Season 8's second episode "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms".
He was one of the writers chosen to pitch a Game of Thrones spinoff series, but his is not moving forward.
Little is known about the Lord of the Rings project, which is being written by JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
Amazon Studios has returned the domestic rights to “A Rainy Day in New York” back to Woody Allen. Allen is now free to proceed with any domestic release elsewhere as he sees fit. “A Rainy Day in New York” already has international distribution commitments. Allen and Amazon are locked in a legal battle regarding his defunct overall deal. The return of the film rights does not impact the current legal battle. What American company will possibly step up to release the film?
One top film distribution chief speaking on the condition of anonymity : “This is death, publicity-wise. Talent wants to distance themselves as far as possible from this. None of them are likely to promote it."
The only viable distributors would presumably be small shops looking to make a splash or load up on content. Few could likely stand the public relations crush.
In his defamation suit against Amber Heard, Johnny Depp accuses her of 'painting on' her bruises:
“Ms. Heard’s fabricated domestic violence allegations against me are categorically and demonstrably false…. I have denied Ms. Heard’s allegations vehemently since she first made them in May 2016. “when she walked into court to obtain a temporary restraining order with painted-on bruises that witnesses and surveillance footage show she did not possess each day of the preceding week.
"I’ve had a lot of Dothraki, Valyrian, fake languages to learn and I’ve had a lot of speeches to give, but I put so much pressure on myself with this one," Clarke said, adding that, "in giving all these speeches in fake languages, I watched a lot of videos of — now it seems funny — dictators and powerful leaders speaking a different language to see if I could understand what they were saying without knowing the language."
The Spice Girls unveiled the stage for their Spice World Stadium Tour. With the kick off this friday, the girls have posted rehearsal photos and teased the set list.
- The image is a photo of a video clip shown at CBS' Upfronts presentation. - The uniform is not a Starfleet uniform. - Everything we know so far: the series will premiere in late 2019, its first season will consist of 10 episodes, it will take place 18 years after Star Trek: Nemesis, and it will involve Picard coping with the news of Romulus' destruction in the Prime timeline in the 2009 Star Trek film. - OP is screaming like a bitch.
Hmmm @CBS upfront had a clip (or probably something made just for upfront) of "Star Trek: Picard" (what they called it) with a Starfleet officer asking Jean-Luc, "May I have your name, please, sir?" as Picard appears incredulous. @StarTrek
GRRM has all the time in the world to write these days, it would seem. As long as it's a few paragraphs on his personal blog, and not the final two instalments of the globally successful series that made him a millionaire.
Anywhos, the literary world's biggest troll blogged about the show's ending, and whether or not it would match his own:
How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different?
Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.
I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. They had six hours for this final season. [...] There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet. And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…
Book or show, which will be the “real” ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have?
How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet.

To celebrate Old Town Road being #1 on Billboard for 7 weeks, Lil Nas X used Postmates to gift Billy Ray Cyrus a Maserati sports car. Colin Firth apparently rushed to her aid, though she was ultimately helped out of the party by security and her sister, Dakota Fanning, who was also there

Khloe's up-close selfies have been MIA ever since she posted a photo on her Instagram showing a clearly smaller nose (that some argued might have just been aggressive FaceTuning), but she proved that the new mug was for real when she was in-studio during a segment of the podcast Divorce Sucks! With Laura Wasser.
Fans have been shook to see just how different Khloe looks now after the apparent rhinoplasty, drawing comparisons to her mother Kris and the late, not so great Michael Jackson. Khloe has been pretty open about having insecurities over her nose however; when she was 9 she overheard Kris say that she should get a nose job (nice parenting), and last year she responded on IG to a fan's question about rhinoplasty saying, "One day I think I'll get one because I think about it everyday. But I'm scared so for now it's all about contour."
Looks like sis finally took the plunge, but OP thinks it was far too aggressive and does not fit her natural features whatsoever.
The Coca-Cola Company and the Stranger Things team have collaborated to revive New Coke. The short-lived launch (79 days) of the much-lauded drink was in the summer of 1985, which is when season 3 of Stranger Things is set. -Dave Bookman, who was an on-air host for both 102.1 the Edge and Indie 88, has died of a brain aneurysm. He had been in the hospital for the past few weeks. -In an Indie 88 tribute, on-air host Josie Dye said, "Bookie was the last true personality on air. He wasn’t hired for his charm, his looks, or his voice. He didn’t work his brand, or promote himself. He exuded knowledge, truth, opinions that mattered that had foundations in research and love for music."
We're sad to hear of the passing of Dave "Bookie" Bookman. He's forged many great relationships with staff and listeners. He will be greatly missed. Our heart goes out to his family. ❤

Five types of “human cheese” from cheddar to Cheshire are on view at the Victoria & Albert Museum. https://t.co/k3tPcHsI84

Bum yeast whomst?
Scientist / cheesemakers at the London biolab Open Cell collected bacteria from celebrity armpits, ears, noses and bellybuttons that was then grown in the lab until suitable strains could be selected for cheesemaking.
So, who are the big cheeses?
Suggs, from Madness, is cheddar.
Ruby Tandoh, from Great British Bake-off, is silton.
Alex James, from Blur, is cheshire.
Professor Green, a rapper, is mozzarella.
As I am not British nor very tuned into their celebrities that haven't crossed the pond, I do not know who these people are. But I posted this bc human cheese.

In January of this year, U.S. Figure Skating was rocked when former pairs skater John Coughlin - a two-time U.S. champion - committed suicide only one day after SafeSport (which investigates allegations of everything from bullying to sexual abuse) suspended him from participating in the sport in any capacity, pending an investigation.
As SafeSport only investigates in order to remove someone from professional athletics for the safety of others in the sport, they immediately closed the investigation upon Coughlin's death. This angered a number of his friends in skating as well as some fans, who have been vocal on social media that they feel he was unfairly branded and now his name will never be cleared.
But one of Coughlin's former partners, Bridget Namiotka, responded to a post that defended him on Facebook today by writing “I’m sorry but John hurt at least 10 people including me. He sexually abused me for 2 years. Nobody innocent hangs themself [sic].”
She continued in a second post: “Someone that’s innocent doesn’t hang himself. Think about the victims when you’re speaking up for what he did to at least 10 girls.”
“Think about all of the girls he hurt,” said a third message and finally, in a fourth message: “Grooming happens. It happened to me and he hurt a lot of girls. Think about the victims.”
Namiotka was first paired with Coughlin in 2004 when she was 14 and he was 18. Their partnership lasted 3 years, and they won three medals on the Junior Grand Prix series before splitting up. Coughlin went on to win his U.S. championships with two different partners, Caitlin Yankowskas in 2011 and Caydee Denney in 2012.
Sophie Turner talked to us about the end of “Game of Thrones,” the fan backlash and why Sansa’s resiliency owed nothing to her abusers. "It was that she was strong in spite of all of the horrific things that she’s gone through, not because of them." https://t.co/oC793WjPf4
-She likes the ending of GOT, and thinks the crew, the writers and directors, put so much effort into it that it's really disrespectful of the fans to start petitions and stuff because they didn't get the ending they wanted. She says the fans would always rebel when something doesn't happen the way they wanted it to.
-She didn't actually watch the last episode but she read the scripts and knew what happens.
-She is grateful for the opportunity and likes where Sansa ended up
-Emilia said that she felt blindsided by the ending and that it came out of nowhere, Isaac thought it was a joke and Kit joked it was disappointing but then continued to say 'epic'
