Michael Sheen Encourages Dads To Talk To Their Teen Daughters About Menstruation

Michael Sheen has teamed up with 'Hey Girls', a UK-based social enterprise which aims to end 'period poverty', in order to help fathers become more comfortable talking with their teenage daughters about menstruation.

The #Pads4Dads campaign helps fathers to become educated on the topic of menstrual cycles, employing a website with information, as well as selling "Dad Kits" that contain feminine hygiene products, separate manuals with info for Dad and daughter, and packets of hot chocolate to "ease the conversation".

Says Sheen in the promotional video:

"I have a daughter. I get it. It can feel hard to start the conversation. But that's okay. 'Hey Girls' is here to help us Dads end the stigma of talking about periods and buying period products for the young women in your life...Let's not leave Dads out of the bloody conversation."

'Hey Girls' gives away one box of pads or tampons to low-income women for each one that a customer buys.

New Books Hitting Shelves This Week

Bestselling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about, and advocates for, survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published twenty years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless. In free verse, Anderson shares reflections, rants, and calls to action woven between deeply personal stories from her life that she's never written about before. Searing and soul-searching, this important memoir is a denouncement of our society's failures and a love letter to all the people with the courage to say #MeToo and #TimesUp, whether aloud, online, or only in their own hearts. Shout speaks truth to power in a loud, clear voice-- and once you hear it, it is impossible to ignore.

USWNT Files Lawsuit Against US Soccer for Gender Discrimination & World Cup Kits Revealed

Lawsuit Against US Soccer

• Last week all 28 members of the USWNT filed a lawsuit against US Soccer alleging institutionalized gender discrimination.

• Players are seeking back pay and damages for any female player who's represented the United States at the senior national level since Feb. 2015.

• In 2016, five members of the USWNT at the time filed a wage discrimination action against US Soccer with the EEOC (ONTD Post). The complaint was never resolved, but the EEOC granted a right-to-sue letter to allow for a federal court filing.

• In 2017, USWNT & US Soccer agreed on a new collective bargaining agreement through 2021.

• Timing for the lawsuit was chosen not only to coincide with International Women's Day, but to capitalize on the attention on USWNT & US Soccer in the lead-up to the World Cup. US Soccer won't do anything to jeopardize the WNT's chances this summer so there's no threat of players being dropped from the squad in retribution and there will be a lot of discussion on equal pay, revenue produced, etc.

Queen music video director: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ sequel being discussed

Rumors of a sequel to the Academy Award winning film Bohemian Rhapsody began yesterday when long time music video director for Queen confirmed to Page Six that a sequel was being “discussed.” Allegedly a second biopic would pick up where the first film left off.

Rudi Dolezal tells Page Six about the follow up film while discussing Jim Beach, who was the band’s manager and is a producer of the first film. “I’m sure he [Beach] plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid,” Dolezal said, adding that a sequel is “being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”

A representative for the other producer of the film, Graham King, has however denied that a sequel is in the works.

Johnny Depp fans are distorting facts to prove his innocence

Johnny Depp is trending on social media with thousands of tweets currently going viral where his supporters are rejoicing after a fan account declared Amber Heard abused Johnny Depp, and that she supposedly lied under oath about him ever attacking her. (These allegations stem from the defamation lawsuit Depp filed this month against Heard.)

In the biggest example that started the bandwagon declaring his innocence, a fan referenced Depp's bruised eye, and an accusation that Heard at one point sliced his finger. (even though it was previously reported he cut the finger off himself)

Actress Felicity Huffman’s bond is set at $250,000 in the alleged college admission scheme

Former Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman’s bond has been set to $250,000 according to TMZ. She has surrendered her passport but is free to travel within the country. Huffman was not required to pay the bond, but her husband William H. Macy had to sign off on being able to cover that amount. Her husband was not indicted but he is considered a witness. She’s due back in court in Boston on March 29 for her involvement in the college admissions scheme.

Meanwhile Fuller House actress Lori Loughlin was out of town therefore not arrested, but she’s already made arrangements to surrender herself to authorities tomorrow. Her husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli, was arrested Tuesday and his bond was set to $1 million. He has since put his home up as collateral.

Loughlin has also deleted all of her social media since the scandal broke earlier this morning.

Director Penelope Spheeris on Hollywood: “They can blow me.”

-Grew up traveling the United States with her parents’ carnival & put herself through UCLA film school

-Started the first production company in Los Angeles specializing in music videos in 1974

On quitting Hollywood:
“I just took whatever job I could get. Because as a woman in the film business, you really don’t get to pick and choose. But working with the Weinsteins was probably the moment where I said to myself, ‘How the fuck did I get here? What am I doing?’”

On Hollywood’s treatment of women:
“It’s ugly. You have no friends in Hollywood. Hollywood is a lonely, lonely desert, especially as a woman. [...] you’ve got these people that are deceitful and liars who don’t stand up for their words, you know?”

On aspiring female directors:
“I’m very glad that today there are more opportunities for young women. I don’t think it’s a useless endeavor at this point, by any means. [...] Because it’s one thing to be a woman in this business, but let me tell you something, it’s another thing to be an older woman in this business. Because then you’ve got two strikes against you from the start. That’s why I don’t give a fuck about the business anymore.”

-Spheeris has spoken at a previous Q&A about being blacklisted by Mike Myers from Wayne’s World 2 after retaining her final cut privileges on the first film, which remains one of the highest-grossing live-action comedies of all time (Spheeris insisting on the infamous Bohemian Rhapsody headbanging scene was a primary battle between them)

Desperate Housewives vet Felicity Huffman and Fuller House‘s Lori Loughlin are among the 50 individuals indicted for allegedly taking part in a large scheme involving parents who paid bribes of up to $6 million to get their kids into elite colleges, including Harvard and Yale.

Meet Hatari: Iceland's Controversial Entry in This Year's Eurovision Song Contest

“Our message is a warning in uncovering the dystopia that is happening in Europe, in America, all over the world” - Matthias Haraldsson of Hatari

The 2019 Eurovision song contest is a controversial one, as it will be held in Tel Aviv, Israel from May 14-18. There were several calls for countries to boycott the long-running international music competition, but no countries ended up officially doing so.

Iceland's entrant into this year's song contest, however, has proven to be quite divisive and is drumming up a great deal of controversy of their own - with some Israeli groups calling for the group to be banned from participating this year over concerns that they are using the contest as a political platform (politics are not allowed at Eurovision - but are always a part of Eurovision).

Hatari have emerged clearly as a fan favourite (although they do have their fair share of haters) with their anti-capitalism message, BDSM inspired stage outfits, sarcastic and trollish sensibilities, and their overall political commentary that seems especially apt given the discussions taking place both globally in a political sense as well as within the frame of Eurovision this year.

Gwyneth Paltrow on Goop's mistakes: "We just thought we were like, writing a blog"

In an interview with CNN's Poppy Harlow at SXSW yesterday, Goop CEO Gwyneth Paltrow addressed a crowd to discuss her massive lifestyle brand that is now worth $250 million.

On 'painful lessons': “We didn’t understand that you can’t make certain claims. We just thought we were like, writing a blog.” (Paltrow now says she's hired a team of in-house scientists and lawyers)

On Jeff Bezos ignoring her: "I got an email and it said the subject was Jeff Bezos, and the sender was Jeff Bezos. So I wrote back, and then he wrote me, and then I said, you know, I would die for the opportunity to sit down and ask you a bunch of questions… and he never wrote me back."

On controversy: "People love to talk about like, Goop is controversial. It’s like, really? Cause we’re talking about female sexual health?... We know if we’re going to write about like a vaginal steam, that it’s funny. But also at the same time we like to identify those things, like what are the next healing modalities, and we just like to ask questions about them."
