Celebrities React To "Leaving Neverland" Documentary + "After Neverland" Preview

(Sensitive Content Warning as the subject matter of this post deals with a documentary that pertains to child sex abuse)

Part 1 of the gut-wrenching "Leaving Neverland" documentary, which chronicles the allegations of the sexual abuse that Wade Robson and James Safechuck suffered when they were children at the hands of the late musician Michael Jackson, aired tonight on HBO. Needless to say, it prompted strong reactions on social media and a few celebrities reacted to it (and to the preview of Oprah's upcoming interview "After Neverland" with Robson and Safechuck as well).

A reminder that part 2 of the documentary airs on March 4th on HBO at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. Oprah's "After Neverland" interview with Wade and James airs directly afterwards.

Ariana Grande pens heartfelt message toward her fans on IG

https://instagram.com/p/BufJrSFFU2q

Never shying away from a moment to post something on Instagram that no one asked for, Ariana took to the social media cesspool to reflect on her life and her friendship with her fans.

On the past three years: i just want to say how grateful i am for my life, for the people in it, for the ups and challenges, for the laughter and the pain, for this music and for the lifelong friendships i’ve made thru making it (that includes my friendship with y’all)... maaaaaaaan... i cant really fathom all that has happened over the past few years.

On being on tour again: i’m prolly gonna cry a lot. a few months ago i told my team i wasn’t even in an okay enough place to tour or work at all and my friends, you guys and this music really saved my life and turned everything around.

Also mentions how she's going to put her phone away now but knows it won't last long.

Who wants to bet money she cancels this tour midway? Girl does not sound stable. Complete strangers should not have so much control over your life and feelings :\

Hozier addresses homophobic comments from dancer Sergei Polunin, and more

Sergei Polunin famously danced in the music video for Hozier's "Take Me to Church," a song that tackles homophobia from both religious and political sources.

[The original music video features a homophobic attack like those Hozier says are carried out, filmed, and posted on social media by far-Right groups in Russia.]

Polunin also starred in Hozier's recent "Movement" video, which mentions the dancer by name alongside Fred Astaire.

In January, the Ukrainian dancer was dropped from the Paris Opera Ballet due to homophobic, misogynistic, and body-shaming comments he made on Instagram. He also expressed his hope that Vladimir Putin would become “leader of the world” and showed off a tattoo of the anti-LGBT Russian leader on his chest. [ONTD post]

[Hozier responded:]Hozier responded:

"It’s troubling. I don’t have a personal relationship with the man, but a lot of what he’s been saying is pretty out there. I remember standing with him on the shoot for a day and he didn’t have the tattoo [of Putin] then, so it all seemed to come out of left-field.

When you bring somebody into your art, there’s a sense of trust and belief that they understand where you’re coming from. So to see all of that was really deflating. For somebody with such artistic potential – I was struck by the vision he has and his dedication to his work – for him to be hijacked by this strange cultural war, it’s really saddening.

I offered a nod to his work with my work, as something that I felt was coming full circle. When you do that, you’re bringing somebody in, in a very personal way. So it’s very f**king depressing."

Mark Hamill feels new Star Wars films have chosen to 'forget the past'

Never one to shy away from his feelings about this beloved franchsise, Mark is speaking out about the Star Wars films and how the new saga has chosen to forget the past. He also talks about his new project for History Channel's Knightfall.

Promoting his role as Knights Templar master Talus in the History Channel drama Knightfall, Hamill said he was shocked at some of the changes Rian Johnson made to the established universe.
He said: "They had me walking by Threepio, not even acknowledging him. I said: ‘I can’t do that!’ [Rian Johnson] said: ‘okay, go over and do whatever’. So I went over, and I did whatever."

"They say in the script ‘forget the past, kill it if you have to’, and they’re doing a pretty good job."

Hamill was also upset that Skywalker’s best friend Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, was killed off in previous movie The Force Awakens, before a reunion could occur.
He said: "I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again. You look at it in a self-centred way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way. I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience. Luke, Han and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again. Then the second thing was that they killed me off. I thought: oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one. That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract. Did I get any of those things? Because as far as I’m concerned, the end of VII is really the beginning of VIII. I got one movie! They totally hornswoggled (tricked) me."

"It can get you into trouble, because I don’t control the storylines,” said Hamill. “I’m sort of like a musician. I read the music, and I try to play it to the best of my ability. That doesn’t necessarily mean I like the tune, but that’s not my job."

Despite controversy and fan outcry, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a hit at the global box office.

Rose McGowan has lost 'years' off her life

Rose McGowan covers Telegraph's Stella Magazine ahead of her autobiography 'Brave' being released in the UK, where she discusses wanting to see Harvey Weinstein 'fall off the face of the Earth', enduring trauma, and life post-Hollywood.

On Harvey Weinstein: "It seemed, to everyone else, like all this just came out of the blue, but for me it’s been a 20-year-project to get people to listen, to really hear us. I would like to see him [Weinstein] fall off the earth. But, I’m going to have to go through the trial."

On re-living trauma: "Everyone asked me about the hotel room incident [in which she was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein]. Each question was re-traumatising. I think it’s definitely knocked years off my life. My brain and my strength were severely sapped. And it went on and on for months. I’m more gentle with myself now." (She says she's no longer taking the mood-stabilising medication she was prescribed for years to control her depression, and doesn't go on social media as much.)

On Hollywood: (She says she has no interest in acting again, and doesn't even watch Hollywood films anymore) "I don’t really want their information in my head. That town breeds fear, particularly in women. The message is: don’t step out of line, little girl – there’s another one coming up behind you. I guess I never cared about being famous enough to guard it."

After selling her home for $1.9M to pay off legal fees, she's now living between London and New York with her non-binary partner, Rain Dove ("I think I was just really tired of toxic, macho male energy. It’s really nice to be with someone who’s not like that.") As for the future, she says she's working on a screenplay and a second book, as well as an art project.

Brave is in stores in the UK on Tuesday, March 5th.

British Royal Family Finally Decides to Do Something About SM Trolls

Directly from the Vanity Fair Article:

"Courtiers have been forced to moderate comments on the royal family’s Instagram and Twitter pages about the two women that have been sexist, racist, and even violent. It is the first time courtiers have taken steps to protect the royal family’s social media platforms by issuing what is essentially a code of conduct.

The Palace has asked for comments not to 'contain spam, be defamatory of any person, deceive others, be obscene, offensive, threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote sexually explicit material or violence” or “promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.'"

'Shallow' #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Dethrones Ariana's '7 Rings'

Gaga earns her fourth No. 1 and first since "Born This Way" in 2011. Shallow dethrones 7 Rings which ruled 5 weeks on the chart.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" blasts from No. 21 to No. 1 for its first week atop the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

Gaga ends the longest gap between Hot 100 No. 1s since Beyoncé, who waited two weeks shy of nine years between "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" in 2008-09 and "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran in 2017-18.

At 22 weeks, "Shallow" ties for the 10th-longest climb to No. 1 on the Hot 100, matching the rise of "Just Dance" (and Vangelis' "Chariots of Fire," which led in 1982). Los Del Rio's "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)" completed a record 33-week trek to the top in 1996.

The Star is Born Soundtrack is also #1 on this weeks Billboard 200. It marks the fist time Gaga has topped both charts at the same time.

Televisa Draws Criticism for "Brownface" Parody of 'Roma' Star Yalitza Aparicio

Yeka Rosales, a Televisa personality, is under fire for posting photos allegedly mocking Roma star Yalitza Aparicio.

Rosales recently posted a photo of herself with darkened skin, a straight black wig, a dress similar to that which Aparicio wore to the Oscars, and making exaggerated facial expressions typically used to mock indigenous peoples.

This isn't the first time Rosales has been accused of posting racist photos of herself. She previously donned blackface while dressing up as Donna Summer.

'Black Widow' Searching For A Diverse Male Villain

The studio is now looking for either a Black British or African actor, 30-45, to portray a “tough, dangerous and mysterious” villain.
This new update seems to eliminate Red Guardian and any other Russian villain from contention.
It still leaves someone like the Taskmaster in play, but at this point it really could be anyone.

The film will still feature a second female lead, an older European male and female and the “bookish” male for which the studio is seeking a Paul Dano-type.
The studio had been meeting with talent for the second female lead (a “kick ass female Bond”), though at this time nobody has signed on for for the role.

Live Action Sonic Revealed by Marketing Firm

Thanks to the marketing firm Hamagami/Carroll, we might finally know what Sonic the Hedgehog will look like in the upcoming live action movie that comes out November 8, 2019.

They claimed to have created packaging "for all of the licensed retail products within the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise"

And this was the blurb that accompanied the images that have since been deleted from their page:

"You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in the world who isn’t familiar with SEGA’s beloved IP, Sonic the Hedgehog. But global reverence does come with a unique price. In creating a licensing and packaging program to be used worldwide and to be applied against targeting multiple audience demographics, it was necessary to strike a balance between staying true to the Sonic brand, while appealing to a global audience, and differentiating from previous Sonic merchandise packaging. The challenge of creating a global licensing and packaging program targeted to multiple demographics came with several strategic requirements: 1) signal a new modern take on the brand without abandoning its core essence, 2) appeal to a worldwide audience and 3) clearly differentiate from previous merchandising efforts. Our approach was to create a system that was versatile and modular, so that various Sonic IPs including Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, Film Sonic, Animation Sonic, and other events could be integrated seamlessly within the baseline packaging look."

John Legend Doesn't See Any Reason Not To Believe Michael Jackson's Accusers

John Legend went on the Power 106 FM program on March 4th, and was asked if he had seen the "Leaving Neverland" documentary, in which Wade Robson and James Safechuck chronicle the sexual abuse they suffered as children at the hands of Michael Jackson. Legend says that he had seen part 1 of the documentary, and that it was difficult to watch for him. He is then asked if he believes Wade and James, and Legend basically confirms that he does as he "doesn't see any reason not to."

John has also publicly voiced support for R Kelly's victims, and appeared in Lifetime's docu-series "Surviving R Kelly."

March's Hottest New Releases

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Release date: March 5

About: Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.
