‘Star Trek’ Animated Kids Show in the Works at Nickelodeon

The new “Star Trek” universe could be expanding beyond CBS All Access.

Variety has learned that CBS Television Studios and Nickelodeon are negotiating for a new “Star Trek” animated series aimed at kids.

Should the project move forward, it would be the first new “Star Trek” TV project to debut outside of All Access and it would serve as a tent pole series at Nickelodeon.

This is the second Trek animated series announced. There is a adult animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” in October.

Reportedly it will focus on the the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships.

Aquaman Sequel in the Works

Almost two months after opening its billion dollar hit Aquaman, Warner Bros. is starting to work on a sequel.

They have chosen David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, co-writer of the first movie, to begin writing a new installment.

James Wan, who directed the first movie is making a deal to return as producer.

It is too early to know whether Wan will return as director.

Here's some Vital Information: "All That" is Returning!

Kenan Thompson will executive produce the SNL for the tween set show & he's still going to be on SNL. Make of that what you will.

"Good Burger" was a sketch on the original show before becoming the movie we all know ... and know.

Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins: "This summer, we are going to bring back a lot of the original cast and the cast through the years, and let them introduce the new cast of ‘All That’ to the world. [....] With a mash-up between old and new sketches."

Nick is banking on nostalgia, and hopes that this revival will help repair (man, man, man....) it's future prospects.

20 Academy voters weigh in on their votes for this year's Best Picture nominees (and more) to NYT

Yes, the anonymous ballots have begun, and this time the NY Times talked to 20 different people - most seem to be on the older, whiter side - and shared a few of their thoughts on the 8 best picture nominees. Voting for the Oscars is taking place now through Tuesday.

-- On 'Bohemian Rhapsody', voters called it superficial and messy, don't take Singer's allegations into account, and - ALL 20 VOTED FOR RAMI MALEK (so best actor's in the bag).
-- The arguments against 'Black Panther' should not be surprising - superhero movies are below these esteemed Academy voters, and choosing a Disney movie!? Never!
-- With 'BlacKkKlansman', they felt it was a great, history-making movie and the type that should win BP, but they felt didn't connect with them on an emotional level. They'd also love to see Spike Lee win just to see his speech (and Spike's frontrunner for adapted screenplay so this is pretty possibly going to happen).
-- 'The Favourite' was loved, but the old whites felt the movie was a little too 'Mean Girls'-esque, with the leads scheming, double-crossing and manipulating to get what they wanted, and believed it didn't give a positive message about women.
-- The old whites LOVED 'Green Book' and its feel-good schmaltziness, which should surprise absolutely no one. This one, unfortunately, got the most positive feedback of the eight.
-- 'Roma's feedback isn't a surprise either - voters are bemused over the whole Netflix release, and unfortunately a lot of them did find it lovely, but boring.
-- 'Vice' thankfully got shat on all over the place, especially director Adam McKay's self-important take on this terrible ass fucking movie. The voters praised Christian Bale and Amy Adams' performances, but were wary to vote for such a super-white movie, citing #OscarsSoWhite in previous years.
-- Finally, 'A Star Is Born'. This one baffled voters like it baffled all of us. It was expected to be the front-runner, but after basically losing every major awards, the voters lost interest as well. They're also tired of Lady Gaga's OTT acceptance speeches, and the older voters went back to compare it to the Judy Garland version, which did not favor Bradley Cooper's version at all. And here we are.

Police Find 'Persons of Interest' In Jussie Smollett Case

Chicago police are currently questioning two men they have determined are the 'persons of interest' who were seen on video in the area where Jussie Smollett was assaulted on January 29 in a racist and homophobic attack.

CPD Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi tweeted:

This morning, Smollett appeared on Good Morning America, where he said that he believes he was targeted for his public criticism of President Trump and that he feels "doubly victimized" by all the people who have accused him of lying about the attack: “If I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot more.” Collapse )

Jack Falahee Dishes On Drinking Scotch + What He Loves About Working With HTGAWM Boss Shonda Rhimes

Jack (Connor) talks about his partnership with Oban Single Malt Scotch Whisky and HTGAWM with Haute Living

How did your partnership with Oban Single Malt Scotch Whisky come about? Did they approach you because you have a hard-to-pronounce name or did they feel your character on HTGAWM gelled with their brand?
I’ve been a fan of Oban for many years, so it made perfect sense when the brand approached me with the campaign idea. I couldn’t say no since, like Oban, people have always struggled to pronounce my last name. I understand the frustrations and love the sarcasm and humor in the videos. At the end of the day, what we’re really trying to do is get people to enjoy this incredibly good, craft Scotch whisky.”

If you could drink a glass of Oban with anyone, who would it be and why?
Hands down Hemingway. I’d love to have a glass while he reads “A Farewell To Arms” aloud to me.

What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from working with Shonda Rhimes on HTGAWM?
The greatest takeaway from working with Shonda has been that hard work pays off. Shonda is talented and driven but from what I’ve learned is that above all else she is driven. When she wants to do something she gets it done. I admire and respect that, and hope to emulate that.

ONTD Original: 4 Old-School YouTubers Who've Been Making a Comeback

tenor.gif

Are you confused by the modern YouTube world of the Logan Pauls, the Ace Families, the James Charleseses? It's because you're old. Never fear though, a few of your favorite (or...less than favorite) old-school YouTubers are making comebacks and you might not even be aware of it! Back when even the top-tier YouTubers still had to have day jobs, these people were hustling to get 100,000 views if they were lucky. Here are a few who have been coming back on the scene.

1. JPMetz (KickingGeese)
Then

I'm starting with my favorite because this is my list. Back in the old days, JPMetz was a parody Youtuber making fun of the beauty guru scene. This character was crabby, cynical and wonderful. She was also friends with several other popular Youtubers including Meghan Tonjes, SoundlyAwake and his hot boyfriend, and Petrilude (who has NOT made a comeback and I miss him).

Now

These days JPMetz is gone, but Justine is still around! She lost a ton of weight, had to stop working due to her MS, and moved in with her sister. She never fully left Youtube but definitely lost interest and only made a handful of videos over the course of several years. For a while on JPMetz she was doing some tarot videos, and occasionally vlogging on the channel KickingGeese. In the past several months though she's turned her vlog channel into her main channel and started making Amberlynn Reid reaction videos. Shockingly, the girl who was once known for being "mean" in the beauty community basically has the nicest and most positive Amberlynn reaction channel.

Jussie Smollett Case: The Two Suspects in Police Custody are Nigerian 'Empire' Extras

According to TMZ, police have positively identified the two men they are currently questioning as the men seen on the surveillance video the night of the attack, and the men - who are brothers - are Nigerians who were both extras on Smollett's show "Empire". They are now being described by police as 'suspects'.

Smollett has identified his attackers as white. TMZ says they have confirmed that the two Nigerian brothers are black. Smollett said during his Good Morning America interview on Thursday that he is positive the two men on the video are the ones who attacked him.

The men left for Nigeria right after the attack but police ID'd them through phone and transportation records and were waiting for them at O'Hare airport when they returned Wednesday night.

The brothers' lawyer, Gloria Schmidt, says their home was raided and searched by police and that they are acquaintances of Smollett who have no idea why they are suspects: “When they first learned about what happened to him they were horrified. This is someone they know. This is someone they’ve worked with, so they don’t want to see somebody go through that.”

Sorry, everyone - I submitted this post 12 hours before it was posted, before the last post on this case was even up. I just woke up and am now updating with more current information.

FBI Opens Up Investigated Into Ryan Adams Over Sexting Allegations w/ Teen Girl

TW: Childhood Sexual Abuse

The New York Times read and verified over 3000 texts between Ryan Adams and a musician who was 14 years old when he began communicating with her. When she was 16, he repeatedly begged her to tell him she was 18, but he also asked her to keep the texts a secret, worried about her mom finding out, and texted, “If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol.” Shortly after “joking” about R. Kelly, he told her to touch her nipple.

Ryan Adams denies the allegations, of course, and has his lawyer claiming she looked “approximately” 20.

Sadly, this young woman quit playing music as a direct result of Ryan Adam’s alleged predatory behavior. Just imagine how many careers have been torpedoed by predatory men in music.

Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin now cast in already star-heavy 'Dune' film adaptation

Already pretty star-studded, 'Dune' and its cast is still ever expanding. In addition to the confirmed cast, led by Timothée Chalamet and Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Oscar Isaac, and Zendaya, are now Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin.

-- Momoa will play Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides who is the right-hand man to Chalamet’s father, played by Oscar Isaac.
-- Brolin will play Gurney Halleck, the warmaster for Chalamet’s family and a mentor to his character.

This is allegedly a two-part movie, and I'm not entirely sure but at the very least the first begins production in March, directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Miley kept it cute joking that it is like celebrity wife swap, but she did not look amused.

Jordan Peele series "Weird City" now streaming

The Jordan Peele produced anthology series for Youtube Premium is now available.
Two of the six episodes are available to watch for free right now.

Synopsis: Weird City is set in the near future in the city of Weird, which has been physically divided into two halves and segregated by economic class: Above The Line, populated by Haves, and Below The Line, populated by Have-Nots. Each episode follows different individuals as they navigate life in the city.

Episode 1 stars Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner), Ed O'Neil (Modern Family, Married With Children), and Levar Burton (Star Trek TNG, Roots).

Stu (O'Brien) lives Above The Line but was born Below it, and thus was never assigned a romantic partner at birth. He uses a dating service that claims to find perfect matches, and is paired with Burt (O'Neill). Despite both men identifying as straight and their significant age difference, they form a friendship that quickly becomes a romantic relationship.

Looks interesting. I think Youtube Premium wants to shake off the idea that their original content is just vloggers making their own shows (which kind of what it was initially, right?)
