Ellis is a literary hack who wrote American Psycho, people tend to remember the much better film as opposed to his book. But then again all of the film adaptations of his “writings” are vast improvements. On his B.E.E. podcast that is only available to paid subscribers (who is out here buying things from Bret Easton Ellis in 2019??????) Ellis shares qwhite an opinion that Black Panther maybe doesn’t really deserve a Best Picture nomination because the sake of diversity, not because it could be a good film.
Ellis just had to say: “The entertainment press and the studio is selling the notion that ‘Black Panther’ is a grand piece of cinematic art that cannot be ignored. And this notion is being shoved down our throats and we can only smile in disbelief. Or perhaps understand that this is just the moment we’re trapped in. A joke, a hoax. It’s all fake news, folks
… No superhero movie has ever gotten a Best Picture nomination. But believe me, Disney is doing everything in its power to make sure this happens. Even though there is no one out here in La La Land I’ve met who thinks ‘Black Panther’ is that good as a movie. Yet, as a piece of representation, they are supporting it.” Learn to Google sweaty, it has been rumored that the Academy switched back to ten Best Picture nominations due to The Dark Knight being shut out. (Also Crash winning Best Picture and that award not being revoked … like why can't a superhero movie win?)
Ellis had to apologize after Kathryn Bigelow won the Academy Award for Best Director for “The Hurt Locker” claiming she only one because she’s a “hot woman” (as shite as this argument is, this literally only makes a sliver of sense if all the nominees were women). The last thing of note Ellis did was writing the script for the modern classic The Canyons starring James Deen and Lindsay Lohan. Honey, you ain’t got the resume. Source
