Halsey is over mediocre male artists and double standards

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane is just not having it.

In the February 2019 issue of Glamour, multidimensional Pop singer Halsey opens up and says she’s over the double standards between men and women in the music industry. She’s particularly over unoriginal male artists and the media.

“We live in a world where women are required to be so fucking original, it’s crazy,” she says. “There are so many male artists who are regurgitations of each other: They all fucking dress the same, they all have the same stylist, they all wear the same fucking clothes, they write with the same writers.”

She also doesn’t care for the narrative the media creates that she’s in competition with fellow pop singer Ariana Grande simply because both have songs charting at no. 1 and no. 2 on the Billboard 100 Chart (“Without Me” and “7 Rings”) at the moment. “I will say one thing about my generation of artists: We are just not fucking having it,” she says. “Lorde, Ariana...if you open any of our text messages at any given time, all of us are just like, ‘Yo, I love your new record. When are you leaving for tour?’ We’re so supportive.”

Octomom's octuplets turn 10

Ten years ago Nadya Suleman, who now goes by the name Natalie, became a media and pop culture sensation after giving birth to the first set of surviving octuplets. The kids, born January 26, 2009, are named Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Makai, Josiah, and Jeremiah.

Natalie lived under a cloud of controversy and chaos for years. There was one bizarre media appearance after another, including an interview where she claimed she hated her children and they disgusted her. The public was angry that the kids, who had to eat, were receiving public assistance (Natalie was later accused of welfare fraud for failing to disclose income from public appearances; she plead guilty to a lesser charge). She even had a short-lived adult entertainment career.

Nowadays Natalie and her 14 kids, she had six kids conceived via IVF before the octuplets were born, live a somewhat calmer life. They live in a modest three bedroom home and the kids appear healthy. Natalie seems more comfortable in her own skin which is for the best.

A few messy updates about this year's Oscars, from best song performers to presenters and more

From Deadline and what they're hearing, here's a breakdown of the current mess that is the 91st Oscars, still happening on February 24:

-- It was apparently Lady Gaga or her team who pushed the Academy to have all five songs performed during the ceremony (even if truncated) because she/they felt it was unfair and showing a blatant bias toward 'Shallow'. Other reports say that if all five didn't perform, Gaga would not have either, and her stance was very 'all or none'. Also, Emily Blunt will NOT be singing the 'Mary Poppins' song according to this.
-- Looks like they might be breaking the acting awards presenters tradition, and rather than have last year's winners Gary Oldman, Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Allison Janney present, they're looking for 'bigger names' to present all awards (like Oprah Winfrey or Tom Hanks).
-- The 3-hour set telecast and not broadcasting 'below-the-line' categories is still in effect, unfortunately. Those awards will be given out during commercial breaks, and no, we don't know the list yet (though cinematography seems to be one of the categories rumored to being cut for time).
-- AMPAS is hoping that even with no host, if the 3-hour telecast works out (narrator: it won't) they're going to continue this truncated version for years to come.

Jussie Smollett Speaks

Jussie Smollett has issued his first statement since he was the victim of a racist and homophobic assault by two men early Tuesday morning:

Let me start by saying that I’m OK. My body is strong but my soul is stronger. More importantly I want to say thank you. The outpouring of love and support from my village has meant more than I will ever be able to truly put into words.

I am working with authorities and have been 100% factual and consistent on every level. Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served.

As my family stated, these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily. I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident. We will talk soon and I will address all details of this horrific incident, but I need a moment to process. Most importantly, during times of trauma, grief and pain, there is still a responsibility to lead with love. It’s all I know. And that can’t be kicked out of me.

Gina Rodriguez’s new movie “Miss Bala” kicks off Thursday night box office previews with $650K

On what I hope is the last slow box office weekend this year (since 'The Lego Movie 2' and 'What Men Want' are out next week), the Thursday box office kicked off with 'Miss Bala', which made $650,000 at 2,050 theaters in the U.S./Canada. It's expected to bring in $6M-$10M this weekend (on a $15M budget) - though, noting that this is going up against the Super Bowl.

M. Night Shyamalan's “Glass” is still expected to top this weekend for the third week in a row, with “The Upside” trailing behind it.

Basically, just brave the cold, Americans, and watch the Patriots hopefully fucking lose on Sunday.

Rose McGowan's lawyers are now representing Harvey Weinstein, Rose reveals they set her up

If you recall, Rose McGowan had an arrest warrant in Virginia after a flight attendant found cocaine in a wallet McGowan had left behind on a plane. She pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor drug charge as part of a no-jail deal with prosecutors last month.

Jose Baez and Ronald Sullivan were co-counsel on her drug case. They're now representing Harvey Weinstein, the man who Rose accused of rape and suspected was behind planting the drugs for speaking out against him.

She tells the Daily Beast, "This is a major conflict of interest but I knew there was shadiness going on behind the scenes. This is why my case didn’t go to trial—my instinct was my lawyers had been bought off."

Rose also leaked emails between Weinstein and his lawyer, Blair Berk, who admitted she "took care" of getting an arrest warrant put out for Rose:

Tekashi 6ix9ine pleads guilty to 9 federal charges + admits to paying someone to shoot Chief Keef

Former rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine pled guilty to nine racketeering, gun, and drug charges and appears to be ready to tell the feds everything.

He told the judge that he paid someone to shoot at a "rival" in NYC the same day Chief Keef was shot in Times Square.
The mother of his child is upset and says 6ix9ine's snitching puts her and their daughter at risk.

He's facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 47 years in prison but unfortunately, he'll probably get less time for cooperating.

His sentencing is set for January 24th 2020.

Mariah Carey waves off controversy, gets coin in Saudi Arabia

Mariah Carey, a noted career trailblazer, was the first international female artist to perform in Saudi Arabia since restrictions on gender segregation were lifted.

The Elusive Morality Chanteuse put on a show alongside other struggling entertainers DJ Tiesto and Sean Paul at King Abdullah Economic City – a multi-billion dollar mega-city north of Mecca.

Enrique Iglesias, The Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta also showed off their public support of liberalizing reforms by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman by performing in the kingdom in December, in exchange for a single digit uptick in personal wealth.

Not all fans of the Nihilistic Christmas Chanteuse could attend, of course, as some are imprisoned activists of women's rights in the newly progressive kingdom.

Amnesty International had urged Carey to use her voice to help release female rights activists from prison. Carey's publicist, however, said the singer was "presented with the offer to perform for an international and mixed gender audience in Saudi Arabia" and "accepted the opportunity as a positive step towards the dissolution of gender segregation".

"As the first female international artist to perform in Saudi Arabia, Mariah recognizes the cultural significance of this event and will continue to support global efforts towards equality for all," Carey's publicist added.

‘In the Dark’ Producers Explain Why They Didn’t Cast a Blind Actress in the Lead Role

The CW’s upcoming drama “In the Dark” stars Perry Mattfield as a blind women who is the only witness to her friend’s murder.
They were asked whether they considered casting an actual blind woman for the role.
They went to 29 different organizations for the blind hoping to find the show’s lead.

“We went about searching for a blind actor immediately, and looked all over. We saw many, many auditions, and ultimately we went with Perry because she was the best actor for the role in a really exciting way.”

SVU Promo for 20x14: Rollins Blames the Victim Again, and Stone Is a Douche! What Else Is New?

In next week's SVU episode, baby number 2 does not seem to have mellowed out Rollins either, as she appears to angrily blame a victim for "ending the life" of her abusive husband (lmao). Also, Stone is all excited to convict this woman, of course, and he chews out Benson and her ~bleeding heart~ (read: advocacy for victims) in the process. Such likeable characters, the both of them. I really enjoy it when episodes are all about them.

ONTD, did you watch last night's episode? Did you kinda enjoy the dumb twists? And are you glad Amanda's babydaddy is finally out of the picture? Until he comes back to sue her for custody, that is? Did you think that entire storyline was a huge waste of both time and George Newbern? And, DILF-y cuteness in that gif aside, have you come around on the idea of Caruso and Rollins possibly dating? Because I haven't tbh and I never will. Justice for Barisi!
