DC's Birds of Prey finds its Cassandra Cain

Newcomer Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations for the role of Cassandra Cain in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. Apparently the movie will have the Birds trying to protect Cain from the kingpin Black Mask when she discovers a diamond that belongs to the villain.

Happy that the best Batgirl is finally hitting the big screen, though I'm not too crazy about the storyline. :/

The 2018 Oxford Word of The Year Is...Toxic

I'm sure we can all agree that 2018 was a ride - So much so, that Oxford DIctionaries has dubbed Toxic the word of the year.

From Toxic Politics to Toxic Masculinity to Toxic Relationships to "Tumblr is soooo Toxic!" and "You're toxic, I'm slipping under", it's everywhere. The 2017 word of the year was Youthquake, which I have never heard of until right now.

The Word of the Year is chosen from a shortlist "drawn from evidence gathered by (its) extensive language research program, including the Oxford Corpus, which gathers around 150 million words of current English from web-based publications each month," says the WOTY website.
But iti's not getting late to give it up - Come December 31st, we'll move into 2019 - and hope everything is better for you then!

How has your 2018 been?

You must be this tall to play Jack Reacher 👉 Tom Cruise 👈 is "too short"

- Author Lee Child told BBC Radio Manchester: "I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He's a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it's a big component of who he is. The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you're all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn't have that physicality. So what I've decided to do is - there won't be any more movies with Tom Cruise. We're rebooting and starting over and we're going to try and find the perfect guy."

- Jack Reacher is described in the novels as 6'5" (1.96 m) tall with long arms, long legs, "a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue", a thicc neck, and, topping it all off, hands the size of dinner plates.

- On the other hand, Tom Cruise is only 5'7" (1.70 m) tall.

'A Star Is Born' struggles to impress non-english speaking countries.

The film has been doing quite well in white america but when compared to other recent musicals it's international numbers aren't all that.

A Star Is Born foreign box office numbers stand at just less than 45% of it's total take, Bohemian Rhapsody foreign gross percentage, for example, takes 63.2% of its earning. La La Land's foreign box office numbers sit at 66.1% and The Greatest Showman's at 59.9%.

It is important to note that audiences in countries like the U.K., France and Australia, whose main population are white people, have embraced A Star Is Born.

Outside of english-speaking territories tho, the musical melodrama has underperformed.

OP NOTE: I'm in DR and i gotta say that eventhough WB invested in having the trailer play in 2 of the radio stations that i listen to on my way to work, the movie only spent 1 week in the movie theater i go to, whereas The Greatest Showman spent like a month and now Bohemian Rhapsody is spending it's third week. So there's that...

Dior under fire for 'Mexican' inspired collection featuring Jennifer Lawrence

- Christian Dior is facing backlash after launching a new collection inspired by "Mexican women" that features no Mexicans in the campaign, but rather actress Jennifer Lawrence.

- The ad shows JLaw modeling ornately embroidered handbags and dresses created to resemble the style of escaramuza horseback riders. (Escaramuza is a female equestrian team in the traditional Mexican rodeo known as charrería.)

- "One of the main inspirations for this collection is the traditional women riders of Mexico. So I'm really excited that this collection is looking at and celebrating these women's heritage through such a modern lens," Lawrence says in the ad.

- Phoebe Robinson, of the popular podcast "2 Dope Queens", shared Lawrence's ad to Instagram calling it "ignorant and gross."

The group were playing a game where they had to try to get someone to say a particular word. Member B.I.'s word was "heol" which is like a surprised expression, so he called his mom and told her "I actually like guys" repeatedly trying to get her to say the word, while members around him laugh.

Billie Lourd cried reading the AHS Apocalypse season finale script

Last night, fans, stans and trapped hate-watchers tuned in for the season finale of Apocalypse. As per usual, we got a finale that didn't match the good of the middle of the season. Billie Lourd caught up with E! to share how it was reading the finale.

"When I read that script, I was so excited I actually cried," Lourd admitted. "It is for the fans, it answers all the questions, it ties a perfect little bow on the season and I think people are going to be really, really satisfied — I hope."

Lourd continues that she's glad her questions got answered about Mallory's origins.

A new theory gaining traction is that [Spoiler (click to open)]Michael wasn't the antichrist at all since the devil won't appear to be evil first, and Mallory is actually carrying out the real apocalypse. Stans are noting that etymologically, Mallory is related to "mal," the root word that means "unlucky" or "evil".

The new season has already been green-lit and Kathy Bates is unsure if she'll be on.

Warners Bros. Selling Ratpac-Dune Library

The library sale is for the fund to cash out, probably as a result of Brett Ratner's sexual harassment claims last fall when the studio made attempts to distance themselves. The sale is being handled by Alan Mnuchin, whose brother divested his stake after he was appointed Treasury Secretary by the current administration.

RatPac has funded a portion of nearly every WB film - except the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Some of the 76 films up for minority stake grabs include:

Midnight Special
The Conjuring Cinematic Universe of The Conjuring 1/2, Annabelle.
The Man From UNCLE
Everything, Everything
San Andreas

The DCEUverse of Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Suicide Squad
The Monsterverse which was also co-produced by Legendary, consisting of Godzilla and Skull Island

KPOP Post: TWICE's Dahyun attacked by Japanese politicians for comfort women shirt

Semi-follow up to this post about BTS' t-shirt controversy.

In the wake of BTS having a Japanese appearance cancelled over an offensive t-shirt one member wore in 2017 featuring the atomic bomb, Japanese politicians are now denouncing popular girl group TWICE after a 2017 airport photo of member Dahyun surfaced where she is wearing a shirt from a company where proceeds support comfort women victims. These politicians and right-wing Japanese groups are now calling for TWICE's appearance on a year end show to be cancelled, like how BTS' TV appearance was cancelled.

To those that don't know, comfort women refer to Korean women who were forced into sex slavery for Japanese soldiers during WWII.

They had a point with the BTS tshirt, but this seems a bit too far. It's wild seeing how Japanese/Korean governments leverage idols for political means.

Google gets rid of "related fanfiction" search tab because of Minions porn

- Google introduced a tab for fanfic results when you search on mobile a few months ago, and suspended it after Gizmodo emailed them questions about results for family-friendly films that included bondage Minions fanart, ASMR Shrek running a dildo across his face, and Anna/Elsa fanfic.

- Google said their results are based on "popular searches and our systematic understanding of content on the web," basically pulling all the stuff people ridicule the most.

- I don't know what they expected?

Oscar Season 2018: Campaigners Already Warning Of Q&A Minefields

The Question of The Day at Q&As? Hide your dumbassery.

Campaign experts are pressing PR to train their actors to look nice and shut up. “This year it can be Time’s Up for your film even before you start,” says one veteran campaigner.

The PR Train Ride got off to a rocky start already with Green Book star Viggo Mortensen and the N-Word. Stars in pictures such as Beautiful Boy, A Star is Born, and Boy Erased (apparently) are cautioned to not reference, endorse, or degrade drug use.

One of the bigger issues isn't about misconduct or general Hollywood fake progressiveness - It's Netflix's Algorithms, that affect product choice or marketing. Some filmmakers are too busy making films to promote the ones on the Award Circuit - which is good news, because we know they're not the brighest bunch.

The catastrophes are the funnest part of Oscar Season.

  • Membership process to join the poly circle (polycule) is selective

  • “Of course I’ve been in audition situations where sexuality was totally being leveraged. It’s really important to acknowledge the diversity of voices who have experienced this shit, and all genders, all capacities, all types of people. Everyone is victim to it. Everyone is a survivor of it.”

  • “No. I feel you, baby. I’m crying, too.” Ezra when the journalist apologized for crying during the interview

Zayn Faces Backlash After No Longer Identifying as Muslim

Zayn has said that despite a spiritual belief in God he doesn't identify as Muslim anymore as he no longer believes in its religious tenets such as having to pray 5 times a day, causing him to face backlash from some fans.

Some of these tweets have accused him of mocking the religion or telling him that they are unfollowing him.

Columnist Anila Baig has said that the reaction in his home city, Bradford has been one of shock towards him admitting this publicly and compares the backlash against him to an online version of that against Asia Bibi, who was accused of blasphemy in Pakistan with calls for her death.
