Jessica Chastain continues to fail, hires new director for Matthew Newton's 'Eve'

To recap: Jessica "I have never worked with an abuser" Chastain announced that she would be producing and starring in Eve a feminist (lol) action thriller. The only problem? Eve was written by Matthew Newton who is more famous for viciously assaulting his girlfriends than his filmography. Newton was supposed to direct, but after severe backlash (which Chastain ignored) he finally released a statement saying he had dropped out.

Tate Taylor, whom Chastain worked with on The Help, is now on board to direct. So it's all good yay. EXCEPT MATTHEW NEWTON STILL WROTE THE SCRIPT FROM AN ORIGINAL IDEA MEANING HE STILL GETS ROYALTIES.

ONTD what's the dumbest career move you've ever made?

Louis CK greeted with standing ovation as he returns to comedy after admitting to sexual misconduct

• After keeping a low profile for the last ten months, disgraced comedian Louis C.K. made a surprise appearance at the Comedy Cellar in New York in Greenwich Village on Sunday night.

• Owner of the Cellar, Noam Dworman, was not aware C.K. was performing but was texted by staff and later saw a video of the performance.

• Dworman told the New York Times that C.K.’s set lasted 15 minutes and consisted of “typical Louis C.K. stuff.”

• The sold-out crowd of about 115 people greeted him warmly and even gave him a standing ovation before he even began.

• However one audience member called the club on Monday to object to the surprise set by Louis C.K.

• Dworman said as a business owner he was in a difficult position and understands that people will be upset with him and his establishment but adds: “there can’t be a permanent life sentence on someone who does something wrong.”

Alec Baldwin to play Batman's father in Joaquin Phoenix Joker film

The Joker Film script paints Thomas Wayne as “a cheesy and tanned businessman” who evokes Donald Trump in the 1980s. The Joker Origin film will take place in the fictional Gotham City during the 1980s. The Hangover director Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver calls the film: “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.” Phoenix and Baldwin will be joined by Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron.

Kelly Clarkson performs @ Us Open, says Dr. Luke sleazy in deposition & cries 3x in new talk show

Kelly Clarkson has had an amazing year: from winning her first year on The Voice, released a critically acclaimed album to having her very own talk show. Clarkson also brought the house down during the U.S. Open opening ceremony. Singing a medley of her hits Clarkson shined and wowed the crowd.

In an unsealed deposition Kelly Clarkson did not hold back and called out Dr. Luke for the asshole that he is. The Grammy winner says Dr. Luke could be a “bully and demeaning”. “In general, I don’t know anyone that likes him,” the Trouble With Love Is singer added. While finally saying, "“People have said he is sleazy. People have said he is belittling, the same kind of things that I say. He is very, I mean, just to be blunt, he can be kind of a bully and demeaning. I don’t like him as a person.” Clarkson also spoke up against Clive Davis in a iconic open letter desecrating the once respected music producer.

A Moment like this singer filmed a pilot for a daytime talk show for NBCUniversal Television Distribution, where she bawled 3 times. America's sweetheart is set to dominate day time and her southern charm has won the hearts of execs who are planning on green lighting the show. Clarkson who is known to wear her heart on her sleeve, is said to be a warm and inviting conversationalist. Among her first guests are industry friends Reba McEntire, Jennifer Hudson and Dolly Parton. NBCUniversal hope the show picks up syndication nation wide and garners advertisers, here's hoping they replace their other kelly blunder: Megyn Kelly.

Rotten Tomatoes Adds Critics in Push to Diversify

Rotten Tomatoes is making it easier to make film-loving white men angry by including more diverse critics.

They're adding "new" platforms, such as podcasts and streaming shows, but observant fans will remember "The Rotten Tomatoes Show" from the late 00's, and the short-lived "See It/Skip It" on Facebook, where the score for "Justice League" premiered instead of posting it on the site days in advance per the norm, certainly didn't win it any admirers.

White critics wrote 82% of the reviews of the top 100-grossing films of last year.

The "Top critics" seperation may also be going away.

“It creates a better product,” Paul Yanover, president of parent company Fandango, said. “More reviews means we’re including more points of view and more platforms…By opening the aperture wider, we’re being more reflective of where film criticism is going.”

I expect my invitation to be in the (e)mail.

Xtina for Cosmo: "There's something wrong with you if you want to be in this business."

- Was scared at first about being bare faced on the Liberation cover:

"It’s scary, but I’m up for the challenge. You can’t tell me something I haven’t already heard about myself anyway.”

- Says she's #stripping back a lot on the tour and not going a typical formulaic approach into setting up the show
- Talks about being #Hurt about the initial criticisms of her #Stripped transformation:

"I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting Britney as the good girl and me as the bad girl. It’s like, if I’m going to be demure and innocent, that’s okay. But if I’m going to just be myself, I’m trouble.” (Trouble by Natalia Kills out now)

- Does not want to date another celeb even when she had opportunities, pointing out flaws of others and herself:

"There’s gotta be something wrong with you if you want to be in this business. I mean, hi! I definitely have my issues. I think that I can only handle one [celebrity] in the relationship, and I need to be it."

That comforter jacket looks comfy!

Have you accepted Sick of Sittin as a bop off Liberation or are you obsessed with being a hater and how much this quality album flopped while ignoring quality music?

ONTD Original: On This Day, 55 years ago (March on Washington)

Fifty-five years ago today, 250,000 people peacefully participated in the monumental March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The march advocated for the civil and economic rights of African Americans and is credited as being the catalyst to passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was considered a "triumph of managed protest" because there had been no arrests relating to the demonstration.

'An Emmy For Megan' to Premiere on IFC Opposite the Emmys

  • You may know Megan Amram as a comedian who has authored some memorable tweets, but she is a true multi-hyphenate entertainer. She's written for TV (Parks & Recreation, The Good Place), she's written a book (Science... For Her!) and now, she's the writer/director/producer and star of an Emmy nominated webseries, An Emmy for Megan.

  • An Emmy for Megan is a real webseries that meets the minimum requirements for the recently added Emmy categories of Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series and Actress in an Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. It is six episodes long, has guest stars (D'Arcy Carden, Ira Madison III, Shannon Woodward), drama, comedy, singing, and extensive descriptions of the eligibility requirements in almost every episode.

  • Megan campaigned for nominations with a billboard and a screening event akin to an FYC event, and was nominated in both categories.

  • Since her nominations, she has put up two more billboards (one for each nomination), handed out lawn signs, and held a screening and Q&A at Arclight Hollywood in her campaign for Emmy gold (maybe silver? bronze? idk what Emmys are made of).

  • An Emmy for Megan is available in its 28 minute and seven second entirety online, but IFC has picked it up to air as counter-programming to the Emmys.

  • Megan elaborated on why it will air on TV in the press release: “Since the internet is hard to access unless you have a smart phone or a laptop or a tablet or a desktop computer or an eBook reader or an iPod Touch or a Smart TV or an Apple Watch, we’ve put it on cable television where it’s easy to find!”

  • Emmy voting has closed, so all we can do now is sit back and wait to see if Megan is rewarded for her efforts. As she's said repeatedly, she created the webseries for the art (but mostly for the hardware).

Aziz Ansari makes his return to the stand-up circuit post-#MeToo accusations

Louis C.K. isn't the only comedian crawling back onto the stand-up circuit after spending months hiding from personal responsibility. Joining him this week is Aziz Ansari, the beleagured star of Netflix's Master of None.

For those unfamiliar with Ansari's #MeToo controversy, originally published on, Ansari "aggressively tried to initiate sex" with an unwilling woman known only as Grace. While Ansari's recent sets deal extensively (as is typical for an Ansari stand up set) with dating, he has skirted the issue of the story and does not appear to have commented on the matter since his initial rebuttal of Grace's story. Regardless, his audiences appear sympathetic, with one woman commenting that Ansari's behaviour was closer to bad date levels of awful than it was to "Harvey Weinstein."

Can't get tickets to see Ansari live? Don't worry, Netflix has you covered. The online streaming giant has already signaled its intentions to produce a third season of Ansari's Master of None.

SAG awards announce dates for 2020 show, just two weeks before hella early Oscars telecast

This ties heavily into the new Oscars telecast date for 2020, which was pushed up two weeks inexplicably to February 9th. That was announced weeks ago with the new Academy rules (shorter telecast, stupid popular film category, etc).

-- the 26th Annual Screen Actors awards will take place two weeks before the Oscars, on January 26, 2020, while the Directors Guild of American awards will be the day before, on Saturday, January 25th
-- the Producers Guild of America awards will take place a week before that, on January 18th

Usually there's a month given between these awards and the Oscars, and the SAG/DGA/PGA/WGA, Golden Globes, and BAFTA winners heavily influence the Oscar winners, since voting time is around or after those awards take place. Now there's going to some weird overlap because the Oscar nomination dates haven't been announced for then and it's all just going to happen at once, so a lot more of an avalanche of awards in early 2020.

Remember that the BAFTAs are going to be squeezed somewhere between the SAGs and Oscars, as the British Academy already said they're going to have their awards before the Oscars. So expect them to probably take place on Feb 2... which will be Super Bowl Sunday that year. Fun times. I know this shit is like a year and a half away, but heads up, I guess.

This upcoming awards season schedule will be more normal fare, with the 2019 Oscars taking place on Feb. 24, 2019.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers turns 25!

-Today marks the official premiere of MMPR which went on to be one of the most popular kids shows of the 90s.

-The Sentai version of MMPR revolves around pre-historic heirs of five kingdoms who awake in the present to fight a sinister witch with the support of their wizard-elf mentor.

-Saban attempted to bring Power Rangers to the US in 1986 when he attempted to adapt Bio-Man. THe pilot was extremely cheap and went nowhere.

-Since Sentai changes team every single year, once MMPR decided to keep the same team for 3 seasons Saban had the Sentai team create exclusive footage popularly known as Zyu2 that they could use so they could continue to cut costs for original footage.

-The cast were worked round the clock for nearly nothing. AJJ revealed in a pod cast years ago that they were paid around $600 a week, they also did majority of their stunts and choreographed majority of their own stunts. Since Saban refused to let the show become union the cast gets no residuals or sees any money from Power Rangers which lead to the Red/Black/Yellow Rangers leaving in the middle of Season 2.

-Amy Jo Johnson, apart from the cast that went on that transitioned from Zeo to Turbo is the only one who decided to leave and got a proper goodbye arc. Karen Ashley/Aisha was promised a story arc when she announced she'd be leaving but her characters journey came to an end when they were turned into children and the character switched places with Tanya. David Yost/Billy left in the middle of Zeo and his character was aged and sent off to an Alien planet where they would use a stand in and voice actor to do his goodbye.

-25th Anniversary "special" airs (or aired depending on when this gets posted) tonight at 8pm

Amandla Stenberg Defends Her Upcoming Controversial Holocaust Film ‘Where Hands Touch’

The romantic period piece from filmmaker Amma Asante revolves around the romance between two German teenagers — Stenberg as a biracial young woman coming of age during the time of the Holocaust and George MacKay as a member of the Hitler Youth.

Social media users criticized the drama for romanticizing Nazis.

Amma Asante wants to shine a light on the existence of “Rhineland bastards,” the German children of color who grew up under Hitler’s rule.

"We lack a range of the experience of black people throughout history, let alone a story about someone who is biracial. People don’t really know that biracial children existed then. These biracial children where the children of French soldiers and German women who had fallen in love during World War I.”

About her character : "Leyna is experiencing racism and persecution, which ends up leading to her being sent to a concentration camp where she lives an experience parallel to that of Romani people or disabled people or mentally ill people or outcasts — those who were not Jewish and were not sent to extermination camps, but were persecuted and forced to work…that’s where those biracial children were sent at that time.”

About the film’s intent : “I think it’s challenging for people to conceive of a story about the Holocaust that is not centered around the Jewish experience, but the experience of someone else. But I think what the movie does really beautifully is it demonstrates what happens with these tricky intersections of identity and how we still continue to be human and love and be loved, despite that.”
