Selena Gomez turned off her Instagram comments after facing backlash for saying #NotJustAHashtag


In the Instagram posts Selena Gomez made about the march on Saturday she used the #MarchForOurLives hashtag and followed it up with #NotJustAHashtag. This appears to be a direct reference to the time she was was defending Taylor Swift on Twitter and asking why people "can't use their voice for something that fucking matters". When a Twitter user responded by asking why she hasn't spoken up about Black Lives Matter or police brutality, she replied: "oh lol so that means if I hashtag something I save lives? No -I could give two fucks about 'sides' You don't know what I do".

People on social media didn't respond well to what seems to be another dismissal of Black Lives Matter on Selena's part. She turned off her Instagram comments but kept the #NotJustAHashtag hashtags in her posts.

Moviepass Adds Landmark Theatres


  • According to a press release (and my Moviepass app), Landmark Theatres are now Moviepass eligible.

  • Moviepass customers will be able to use e-ticketing at Landmark, as well as select seats in-app and make advance reservations. These features are not yet available, however, and will likely take some time to integrate into the app.

  • Landmark is co-owned by Mark Cuban, who is excited about the venture and touts Landmark as the best place to watch a movie.

  • Landmark has 56 locations in over 10 states.

'Call Me by Your Name's screenwriter James Ivory criticizes the movie while promoting the DVD




To promote the DVD/Blu-ray release of 'Call Me by Your Name', the film's Oscar-winning screenwriter James Ivory took the chance to criticize the film's adaptation from his script.

-- apparently he had written in some full-frontal nudity in the script, but that was scrapped since there was a no-nudity clause in both Chalamet & Hammer's contracts. Ivory's still pissed off it wasn't there, and is extra annoyed that director Luca Guadagnino apparently said he'd never put in nudity, though Ivory calls him out and states that Luca indeed said the opposite.
-- hated the angle/route taken in the movie with the love scene, felt it seemed too phony and total bullshit to have the camera just pan away to some random ass tree outside while they got down to business. His comment lmao:

“To me, that’s a more natural way of doing things than to hide them, or to do what Luca did, which is to pan the camera out of the window toward some trees. Well …” He gives a derisive snort.

Few other tidbits:

-- opens up about his romantic relationship with his Merchant/Ivory partner Ismail Merchant, which ended when Merchant died over a decade ago
-- mentions that he did write dialogue pertaining to the rise of the AIDS epidemic in the early 1980s timeline of 'Call Me by Your Name' but that got scrapped too
-- thinks he can get Daniel Day-Lewis back for a new project despite DDL having said for the hundredth time that he's 'retired':

“He retired once before to become a shoemaker in Italy and luckily he didn’t persist at that, so hopefully this is short-term, too.”

Are you ready to take it back to the 00's ONTD? Shoot, already? Again? It hasn't been that long has it? What year is it? Damn. Damn indeed, hope y'all got your life alert on for this one. For this ONTD Original, I've decided to compile a list of underrated 00's R&B/Hip-Hop jams (singles and non-singles) and highlight them for some of us that may have forgotten them or simply didn't even know they existed (I don't think i went that far deep into the archives for that, but you never know). I may have accidentally stumbled upon my old mp3 player and that may or may not have inspired this post. Without further ado, let's dive into the nostalgia of grade shool, middle school and for some high school/college.

TLC — “Hands Up (2002)”

Description: "Hands Up" was released by American recording group TLC as the second single for the band's fourth studio album, 3D on November 5, 2002. The song was written and produced by 90's R&B King Babyface and co-written with Daryl Simmons. The album was released seven months after the death of TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. The single was considered a minor success but unfortunately failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. The video was shot on January 10, 2003 and reunited TLC with Matthew Rolston, director of their videos for "Creep" and "Red Light Special." "Tryin' shake that ass. Playa, don't even dance! Supwitchu" remains in my every day vocabulary tbh.

Mariska Hargitay has no qualms about her husband Peter Hermann's love scenes on 'Younger'



Peter Hermann wrote a children's book called 'If the S in Moose Gets Loose' and Mariska was there to show support for her husband and talk a bit to ET. Mariska spoke about how proud she is of her husband and his book and his TV Land show Younger.

"I've had the pleasure and honor of working with the amazing Sutton Foster, who is ridiculously, absurdly talented and she was on SVU," Hargitay said in praise of Hermann's co-star. "To get to know her is to love her and I'm just happy he got the good one, the best one. She's awesome and the cast is awesome."
Continuing to express her gratitude, Hargitay added, "I can't believe that this is the life that we get to lead."

Peter added: "Anytime you're able to do something and have people respond positively, to write something and to make a book ...it's such a privilege,"

Well, That Escalated Quickly by Franchesca Ramsey gives ONTD a shoutout:

Franchesca became widely known after her 2012 video "Shit White Girls Say...To Black Girls" went viral. In early 2016, Ramsey joined Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore as a contributor and writer, and she's also appeared on MTV:Decoded, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, and Broad City.

Ramsey hosts a podcast with her husband Patrick called Last Name Basis where the couple talks about their lives and the world around them.

Royal Wedding round-up: Meghan's father to get a coat of arms, William to miss FA Cup Final + more




Meghan's father, Thomas, is rumored to be getting a coat of arms before the wedding - a tradition before royal weddings and something that Kate's father, Michael, got before her wedding (he received three acorns to represent his children, and a gold stripe to represent Carole Middleton, whose maiden name was Goldsmith). Meghan and Harry will likely get their own conjugal coat of arms in a few years, like Kate and William, who received theirs in 2013 (two years after they married).




William, president of the Football Association, wanted to figure out a way to attend both his brother's wedding and FA Cup Final but decided it wasn't feasible. The wedding is at noon and the game's probably going to start around 5:30 that afternoon, but the evening reception will likely be starting sometime around then.

Also known as Scary Hair by Alaska, it's about a man possessing a hairpiece and killing anything that gets its in its way. Pakistan Hires World's First Transgender News Anchor




Marvia Malik, a former model, has become the world's first transgender news anchor. She is working at Lahore-based Kohinoor News. She was previously the first trans model to walk the runway in Pakistan.

In an interview, she said that she became estranged from her family. Her university professors (at Punjab University) were supportive, but she faced discrimination from students. On the struggles trans people go through in society, she says: "When transgender [people] are so isolated by society as well as family, they obviously have no other option but to sell their bodies and become escorts, or dance on the streets and become beggars."

However, she believes that she can be a role model: "I want to show the country that we are more than objects of ridicule ... that we are also human," she said. Pakistan has taken historic steps towards trans rights; the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights recently approved a bill empowering trans people to determine their gender without medical approval.

Celebrities like Laverne Cox have congratulated her, and the news has been widely circulated on twitter.

How 'Outlander' Plans to Handle Season 4 Rape Storyline Amid the #MeToo Climate



The Starz drama will again have to tackle the subject of rape and sexual assault in an upcoming season four episode.
In author Diana Gabaldon's fourth Outlander novel, Drums of Autumn, a main character is raped.

"In Drums of Autumn, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) adult daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) goes through the stones and back in time to reunite with her mother. She also meets her father Jamie for the very first time. But with her journey through time comes a moment in which the psychopath Stephen Bonnet (Downton Abbey's Ed Speleers) rapes Bree."


Executive producer Matt B. Roberts :

"If we're trying to make a political statement within the show, then we've lost the plot. The characters have to be true to themselves and the storylines, and if someone gleans something from that, then that's an individual gleaning something from it. But we don't set out in the writer's room to make a political statement about any character or any movement or anything."

"When a modern audience views Outlanderthrough a modern lens, then yes, you can have problems with it. But if you actually place yourself in the period — and we're not saying that rape was OK in that period either — but how the characters view it is how we're showing it. We're not showing it how we view it and that makes a difference."

Lady Gaga took the stage at a star-studded show to tribute Elton John for a performance of "Your Song." Sporting a pair of oversized Elton glasses and costume to match, the queen of pop belted out a beautiful rendtion of the musician's hit song during the post-Grammy show, titled "Elton John: I’m Still Standing."

The show will air April 10th on CBS, including performances by Miley Cyrus, John Legend, SZA, Ed Sheeran and more. A collection of covers of Elton's hits, including Gaga's version of "Your Song," will be released on April 6th.
