Cardi B on men supporting #MeToo: “They’re not woke, they’re scared”

Cardi worked as a stripper at New York Dolls before beginning her music career.

"A lot of video vixens have spoke about this and nobody gives a fuck. When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their dicks out. I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter.'"

“These producers and directors, they’re not woke, they’re scared.”

“People say, ‘Why do you always got to say that you used to be a stripper? We get it.’ Because y’all don’t respect me because of it, and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on. Just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain.”

The View interviews US Senator Cory Booker

The panel interviews US Senator Cory Booker. They discuss the probability of Trump firing Robert Mueller and what kind of steps Congress can take to prevent it by introducing legislation. There is apparently already a bill that's been discussed/debated in the Judiciary Comm. The optics of the special investigation being biased as it has more Democrats on it than Republicans even though Mueller is a long time registered Republican. Booker thinks it is unacceptable to attack and undermine the intelligence agencies. Megan keeps pushing about the 'bias' as the Democrats in the investigation apparently contributed to Clinton's campaign. Booker brings up Trump's demeaning and degrading behavior on Twitter and lowering the bar for our Democracy. Sunny brings up McCabe's firing and Booker states he wants to investigate the firing.

John Krasinski on the Importance of Casting Deaf Actress Millicent Simmonds in ‘A Quiet Place’

  • In a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, director John Krasinski discussed how it was "non-negotiable" to hire a deaf actress (Millicent Simmonds) to play a character who is deaf:

  • “I didn’t know I was going to get so lucky to have not only a deaf actress, but the most beautiful human being who would walk me through the experience and be honest about what it meant to be deaf. [Simmonds] was not intimidated. She would tell me, ‘This is what I would do in the moment […] and this is what a fight would look like with my dad.’ It was so great.”

  • He also talked a bit about learning American Sign Language and communicating via ASL in A Quiet Place. There is no audible dialogue until about halfway through the film.

  • The interview/article also covers why he chose this script to direct, the making of A Quiet Place, what's next for him and what's next for production company Platinum Dunes (which was formed by Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Michael Bay).

A Quiet Place comes to theaters on April 6!

A first look at the Broadway cast of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'

A first look at the Broadway cast (three guesses who took the photos) - well, really 7/8s of the original London cast - of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (already in previews). The article is insanely dull but I found a decent quote:

Playwright Jack Thorne: “We wanted to tell a story about kids who, unlike Harry and his friends, weren’t comfortable at Hogwarts. And we also wanted to look at what it’s like when you’re a parent reflecting on your own childhood and what that childhood made you into. Harry is at that age where he has to come to terms with things that he has never sorted out.”

The terrible Cursed Child story/amazing stage production is already at London, now Broadway, and in Melbourne, Australia next year.

Ed Sheeran's neighbors say his planned chapel will kill endangered newts

Ed Sheeran wants to build a chapel on his property for his wedding but his plans will reportedly destroy the habitat of endangered great crested newts.

Neighbors say he should newt be allowed to build there and a full ecological survey has been demanded.

One objecting neighbor said: "It would appear that the applicant - in his desire to satisfy the needs of the spiritual world - continues to overlook his obligations to the living world, particularly that of protected species."

Another suggested sending Ed Sheeran to jail: "Any damage to such habitats or the killing of such protected creatures can also lead to criminal or civil prosecutions."

Until the UK leaves the EU next year, they are subject to the EU regulation that prohibits the harm of great crested newts.

The new Syfy series Krypton launches tomorrow plus creator talk political parallels

The new Syfy series "Krypton" is taking a different approach to what we know of the Man of Steel and his home planet of Krypton.  The show is set two centuries before Kal-El is born and follows his Grandfather Seg-El (father to Jor-El) and promises a new take on the Superman mythos.  In addition to Braniac and Adam Strange, the show will introduce us to the infighting between the houses of El, Zod and Val and the political structure in the show is set to mirror many of the current struggles we face daily. Showrunner Cameron Walsh provided some insight on the show and what to expect.

  • There will be peole of color on Krypton which hasnt really been depicted on film before.

  • Promises diversity will be important to the show both in front of and behind the camera.

  • The original John Williams Superman theme will be used sparingly on the show.

  • The show will tackle both religion and politics in its first season.

  • There will be time traveling elements in the show allowing them to play with the timeline.

  • Adam Strange makes an appearance and Braniac looks to be the big bad of Season 1.

  • This is not a superhero show.  “No one is fighting crime or slapping on a mask. No one is fighting for truth, justice and the Kandorian way. There is no freak of the week. No one sees his parents get murdered and must seek revenge. Like all great sci-fi, it’s not about aliens or robots, it’s about the people.”

Celebrities React to Murder of Brazilian Politician Marielle Franco

– Marielle Franco, newly-elected member of the Rio di Janero city council as part of the Socialist and Liberty Party in Brazil (PSOL), was murdered along in a drive by shooting along with her driver Anderson Pedro Gomes on the night of Wednesday, March 14th.
– Officers have said that it was two men who were responsible for the shooting. They fired nine shots into the vehicle that carried Franco and her driver, along with a press officer in the backseat who survived. The press officer said it appeared the shots were targeted at Marielle.
– Marielle was a major advocate for poor people, LGBT rights, black rights, and women's rights. Being her first term in office starting 2016 as an openly gay Afro-brazillian woman was risky enough, but Marielle was also very condemning of police violence and brutality and recently accused officers of being too aggressive in their raids and searches. 46,500 people voted for Marielle to reflect their interests on the city council.
– Many outlets are omitting Marielle's positions and sexuality. She loved her partner Monica Teresa Benicio and her 19 year old daughter, her parents, and  her sister. On March 18th, after nearly a week of anger from citizens, Brazil's most powerful media outlet, Rede Globo, held a 45 minute segment on Marielle's murder. It featured interviews from Marielle's partner and family, and Anderson's widow, but in the only segement about her political positions described her passion for "human rights", that humans are free and equal, and should be given the same rights as everyone else, watering down her radical progressive positions into something unobjectionable and cliché.
– In an interview with Democracy Now, Former Brazilian President Lula said [translated]: "Mainly, we have two problems in Brazil. The first is that her assassination is unacceptable. The only thing [Marielle] did was to work against the assassinations of black persons in the peripheral areas in the defense of human rights and the defense of lives of people. It's clear that her death was a pre-meditated killing. Now I don't know if it was a militia or a police, but what is clear is that it is unacceptable, and that all of us Brazillians could come together in a single voice and shout out loud to demand punishment of those responsible for that killing. And President Temer should learn a lesson with this killing, which is that the problem of violence in the peripheral areas of our Brazil is not going to be resolved by turning to the armed forces. It is necessary that the state have a presence in the peripheral areas of the state of Brazil."

– Her murder has prompted mass mourning and protest across Brazil. Many found great hope in Marielle's advocacy for issues important to locals who don't have a voice in their government. Some people are taking the protests for Marielle as an insult against local police officials, which, well. The passion for Marielle's life and political work is growing beyond state and media attempts to control it. Because of this...
– Celebrities across the world have expressed their condolences over Marielle's murder. Check below for reactions and personal photos of Marielle with her partner Monica.

Fast-casual salad chains are a thing now and exploding

• Competition is heating up at places such as Sweetgreen, Tender Greens, Chopt, and other similar chains are expanding.

• “It’s the perfect moment,” says Aaron Allen, a restaurant industry analyst. “Fresh is the most bankable word in food service.”

• Sweetgreen is the current leader of the space and has raised close to $100 million over the past 10 years and opened 20 new locations in 2017.

• Other salad chains are spreading as well. Houston-based Salata expects to top 100 locations by the end of 2018.

• An array of investors, from hospitality giant Danny Meyer to NFL players, are lining up to get in on the greens, while celebrity chefs are signing on for menu collaborations.

The entrepreneurs fueling the current fast-casual salad explosion set out to tap into enthusiasm for the Chipotle model — let diners customize their meal, but assemble it for them while they watch — while attempting to shift the perception of salad from “diet food” to a desirable, filling (and yes, trendy) meal.

Drew Barrymore Doesn't Think "Me Too" Survivors Should Have "A Tone of Anger"

*Drew Barrymore does not like the tone of the #MeToo movement. Stephen Colbert asked her about it and she said:

“I think it’s phenomenal… and overdue and wonderful and the only thing I have a personal ‘thing’ about is tone. I don’t want anything to have a tone of anger. I know people say anger is healthy, I have a dark side that’s, you know, a huge chasm, but I’ve never been an angry person."

*Drew, who comes from a powerful Hollywood family that includes John Barrymore and got her first role at the age of 6 from her godfather Stenen Spielberg, says this about women in Hollywood:

"I’ve never expected people to hand me anything and I never expected them to believe in me. I had to create enough homework and data to show proof to them. So I want, I hope that people won’t do it with anger and expectation because what you really have to do is prove that you are capable."

“I think it’s important for women to work hard at their dreams and do it without anger... So maybe there’s a healthy anger and an unhealthy anger, but I can assure you that if you have the abilities and you stay positive and you don’t expect things to be handed to you and you really work towards them, all the greatness will come, because I was never treated like a little girl who couldn't do it."

janelle monáe talks prince, black panther & time’s up

Janelle Monáe talks to Annie Mac about Prince, Black Panther, Time’s Up and about whether she’d consider going into politics.

Living over in America and feeling like the people I love were pushed to the margins of society by the leader of the free world and that regime.

You do have to stand up for those who can't often stand up for themselves - so I do feel a responsibility to knock the hell out of the bully.

Her new album's first single, Django Jane, is a bold, street-smart banger packed with political and feminist discourse.

"They been trying hard just to make us all vanish," she raps at one point. "I suggest they put a flag on a whole 'nother planet".

I'm angry at many of the things that I hear coming out of the mouths of people in the position of power, I'm tired of the abuse of power. I'm tired of so many things. [...] But at the end of the day, I do believe that we are on a shift change. Women are uniting, we're realising we're stronger together, we're more powerful together, that we really can get [things] done when we are aligned - and so Django Jane was important to say that.

John Oliver’s book about a gay bunny is outselling the Mike Pence book it’s trolling

• A follow up to this post. John Oliver revealed the book, which was written by Jill Twiss and credits the titular bunny as a co-author, on his weekly late-night show on Sunday. He described it as a mocking rebuke of the vice president’s longtime opposition to gay and transgender rights.

• “Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President,” is a picture book written by Mr. Pence’s daughter Charlotte that focuses on the bunny’s observations of the vice president, with illustrations by his wife, Karen. The other is “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo,” is a gay romance between two bunnies.

• “Please buy it for your children, buy it for any child you know or buy it because you know it would annoy Mike Pence. This is a real book for children.”

By Tuesday the book, which beat Ms. Pence’s to Amazon by two days, had risen to the No. 1 spot on the website’s best-seller list, knocking pre-ordered copies of the upcoming memoir by James Comey down to No. 2.

• In it, Marlon Bundo, a snappily dressed bunny with a penchant for bright bow ties, falls in love with a bespectacled boy bunny named Wesley. Things seem to be going pretty well for the two lovebirds (love bunnies?) until a powerful stinkbug who bears a striking resemblance to Mr. Pence decrees that male bunnies cannot marry each other.

• The tale also comes in the form of an audiobook voiced by a string of celebrities including Jim Parsons as Marlon Bundo and John Lithgow as the stinkbug, as well as Ellie Kemper, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and RuPaul.

• Charlotte Pence seemed to take the John Oliver parody in stride. “His book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind,” she said in an interview on Tuesday. “We have two books giving to charities that are about bunnies, so I’m all for it really.”

• Some of the proceeds from her book will be donated to A21, an organization that fights human trafficking. Oliver said all of his book’s profits would be donated to The Trevor Project, a charity for L.G.B.T. youth, and AIDS United.
